Mangroves are highly salt-tolerant species, which live in saline intertidal environments, but rely on alternative, less saline water to maintain hydraulic integrity and plant productivity. Foliar water uptake (FWU) is thought to assist in hydration of mangroves, particularly during periods of acute water deficit. We investigated the dynamics of FWU in Avicennia marina and Aegiceras corniculatum by submerging and spraying excised branches and measuring leaf water potential (Ψ) at different time intervals.

Owing to their rapid cooling rate and hence loss-limited propagation distance, cosmic-ray electrons and positrons (CRe) at very high energies probe local cosmic-ray accelerators and provide constraints on exotic production mechanisms such as annihilation of dark matter particles. We present a high-statistics measurement of the spectrum of CRe candidate events from 0.3 to 40 TeV with the High Energy Stereoscopic System, covering 2 orders of magnitude in energy and reaching a proton rejection power of better than 10^{4}.

Optical Tweezer Arrays of Erbium Atoms.

We present the first successful trapping of single erbium atoms in an array of optical tweezers. Using a single narrow-line optical transition, we achieve deep cooling for direct tweezer loading, pairwise ejection, and continuous imaging without additional recoil suppression techniques. Our tweezer wavelength choice enables us to reach the magic trapping condition by tuning the ellipticity of the trapping light.

Constitutive models that are able to accurately predict cyclic soil behaviour are crucial for finite element design of offshore foundation or railway embankments. Tailored light-matter interactions in the strong coupling regime enable the manipulation and control of quantum systems with up to unit efficiency, with applications ranging from quantum information to photochemistry. Although strong light-matter interactions are readily induced at the valence electron level using long-wavelength radiation, comparable phenomena have been only recently observed with short wavelengths, accessing highly excited multi-electron and inner-shell electron states. However, the quantum control of strong-field processes at short wavelengths has not been possible, so far, because of the lack of pulse-shaping technologies in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and X-ray domain.

This review consolidates a decade of research on fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase domain containing protein 1 (FAHD1), a mitochondrial oxaloacetate tautomerase and decarboxylase with profound implications in cellular metabolism. Despite its critical role as a regulator in mitochondrial metabolism, FAHD1 has remained an often-overlooked enzyme in broader discussions of mitochondrial function. After more than 12 years of research, it is increasingly clear that FAHD1's contributions to cellular metabolism, oxidative stress regulation, and disease processes such as cancer and aging warrant recognition in both textbooks and comprehensive reviews.

Cofactor F is an electron carrier playing a crucial role in a variety of microorganisms during redox reactions of the primary and secondary metabolism due to its low redox potential and thus arouses increasing interest. In this study, cofactor F glutamyl tail length spectra in various habitats like manure, compost, soil, and digester sludge samples and their respective microbial communities were investigated using high performance liquid chromatography and an amplicon sequencing approach A previous study was used to identify F producing microorganisms. The highest concentration of cofactor F could be achieved in the horse manure, digester sludge, and mixed manure samples, which was approximately 100-fold higher than in all the other samples.

The industrial use of certain insects, such as the black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens), has become a burgeoning way of converting residual biomass into a valuable source of biomolecules for the feed and food industry. Here, the integration of a valuable step as an upcycling technology using biological waste from the 5th instar BSF larvae processing as a source of bioactive chitosan was explored. The goal is to pave the way for sustainable chitosan production from insect-based resources in addition to proteins, lipids, and fertilizers.

We study the existence of continuous (linear) operators from the Banach spaces of Lipschitz functions on infinite metric spaces vanishing at a distinguished point and from their predual spaces onto certain Banach spaces, including ()-spaces and the spaces and . For pairs of spaces and () we prove that if they are endowed with topologies weaker than the norm topology, then usually no continuous (linear or not) surjection exists between those spaces. It is also showed that if a metric space contains a bilipschitz copy of the unit sphere of the space , then admits a continuous operator onto and hence onto .

We show that strong molecular rotation drastically modifies the autodetachment of C_{2}^{-} ions in the lowest quartet electronic state a^{4}Σ_{u}^{+}. In the strong-rotation regime, levels of this state only decay by a process termed "rotationally assisted" autodetachment, whose theoretical description is worked out based on the nonlocal resonance model. For autodetachment linked with the exchange of six rotational quanta, the results reproduce a prominent, hitherto unexplained electron emission signal with a mean decay time near 3 ms, observed on stored C_{2}^{-} ions from a hot ion source.
