Xylindein is a blue-green pigment produced by the fungi and Its stunning color and optoelectronic properties make xylindein valuable for textiles and as a natural semiconductor material. However, producing xylindein from culture broths remains challenging because of the slow growth of the species and the poor solubility of xylindein in organic solvents. An alternative production route for obtaining pure xylindein is heterologous expression of the xylindein biosynthetic genes.

Bacteria frequently employ carbohydrate-binding proteins, so-called lectins, to colonize and persist in a host. Although Pb-based metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have excellent photoelectric characteristics, their toxicity remains a limiting factor for their widespread application. In the paper, a series of CsCuClxBr3-x (x = 1, 2, 3) MHP microcrystals were developed and their hydrogen evolution performance in ethanol and HX (X = Cl, Br) was also studied. Among them, CsCuCl3 microcrystals exhibit high hydrogen evolution performance in both HX and ethanol, attributed to their longest average lifetime and suitable band structure.

A novel spin-crossover (SCO) material based on iron(II) complexes incorporating 4-acetylpyridine (4-acpy) and [Hg(SCN)] anions was synthesized and formulated as [Fe(4-acpy)][Hg(μ-SCN)] (1). We present a quantum-classical algorithm to study the dynamics of the Rohksar-Kivelson plaquette ladder on NISQ devices. We show that complexity is largely reduced using gauge invariance, additional symmetries, and a crucial property associated to how plaquettes are blocked against ring-exchange in the ladder geometry. This allows for an efficient simulation of sizable plaquette ladders with a small number of qubits, well suited for the capabilities of present NISQ devices.

Aberrant Ras homologous (Rho) GTPase signalling is a major driver of cancer metastasis, and GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs), the negative regulators of RhoGTPases, are considered promising targets for suppressing metastasis, yet drug discovery efforts have remained elusive. Here, we report the identification and characterization of adhibin, a synthetic allosteric inhibitor of RhoGAP class-IX myosins that abrogates ATPase and motor function, suppressing RhoGTPase-mediated modes of cancer cell metastasis. In human and murine adenocarcinoma and melanoma cell models, including three-dimensional spheroid cultures, we reveal anti-migratory and anti-adhesive properties of adhibin that originate from local disturbances in RhoA/ROCK-regulated signalling, affecting actin-dynamics and actomyosin-based cell-contractility.

Novel scaffolds for broad-spectrum antibiotics are rare and in strong demand because of the increase in antimicrobial resistance. The cystobactamids, discovered from myxobacterial sources, have a unique hexapeptidic scaffold with five arylamides and possess potent, resistance-breaking properties. This study investigates the role of the central D-ring pharmacophore in cystobactamids, a para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) moiety that is additionally substituted by hydroxy and isopropoxy functions.

This power is uniform across SPT phases, and is unlocked by measurements that break the symmetry. By exciting a series of 1s^{2} ^{1}S_{0}→1snp^{1}P_{1} transitions in heliumlike nitrogen ions with linearly polarized monochromatic soft x rays at the Elettra facility, we found a change in the angular distribution of the fluorescence sensitive to the principal quantum number n. In particular it is observed that the ratio of emission in directions parallel and perpendicular to the polarization of incident radiation increases with higher n. We find this n dependence to be a manifestation of the Hanle effect, which served as a practical tool for lifetime determinations of optical transitions since its discovery in 1924.

Early detection of agricultural drought can alert farmers and authorities, enhancing the resilience of the food sector. A framework is proposed for developing a novel regional agricultural drought index (RegCDI) by combining remotely sensed vegetation health, soil moisture and crop water stress via a transparent Shannon's entropy weighting method. The framework consists of the selection of suitable datasets based on their regional performance, the aggregation of selected drought indicators, the validation of the combined index against crop yield, and the testing of predictive capabilities.
