The cutouts of graphene sheets, particularly those with a nonplanar topology, present vast opportunities for advancement. Even a slight deviation from the planar structure can lead to intriguing (chiro)optical features for helically twisted nanographenes. In this context, we introduce two regioisomeric π-extended nanographenes that exhibit distinct excited-state characteristics.

High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

The association between school students' social background and school achievement is well documented. Recent studies demonstrated that this association might be moderated by the level of cognitive potential. Based on these results, we recruited an elementary school sample ( = 837) and an adolescent sample at the end of their compulsory school time ( = 2100) to investigate whether the associations between students' social background and their academic achievement in math and language arts were moderated by the level of their general cognitive competencies, i.

For many technological processes, the impact of water addition on the properties of deep eutectic solvents is of central importance. In this context, the impact of hydration on the reorientational dynamics of the deep eutectic solvent (DES) ethaline, a 2:1 molar mixture of ethylene glycol and choline chloride, was studied. Its overall response was explored by means of shear mechanical rheology.

Biomolecular structures are typically determined using frozen or crystalline samples. Measurement of intramolecular distances in solution can provide additional insights into conformational heterogeneity and dynamics of biological macromolecules and their complexes. The established molecular ruler techniques used for this (NMR, FRET, and EPR) are, however, limited in their dynamic range and require model assumptions to determine absolute distance or distance distributions.

Adverse alcohol consumption is a major public health concern, which might have been further increased by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study we investigated the impact of a lockdown stage on the association between alcohol consumption, loneliness, and COVID-19-related worries. We used smartphone-based Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany.

Salt metathesis of dinickel(II) complex LNiBr (1; L is a dinucleating pyrazolate ligand with two β-diketiminato chelate arms) with Na(OCP) ⋅ (dioxane) yielded LNi(PCO) (2) with a P-bridging phosphaethynolate. Further reaction of 2 with benzyl isocyanide or with an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) triggered decarbonylation and gave LNi(PCN-CHPh) (3) and LNiP(NHC) (4) with P-bridging cyanophosphide and NHC-phosphinidenide, respectively. Electronic structure analysis indicated a μ-η : η binding mode of the PCO anion between the two Ni ions in 2, which is even more pronounced for the [PCN(-CHPh)] anion in 3.

Fluorophores are essential tools for optical imaging and biomedical research. Their synthetic modification to incorporate new functions, however, remains a challenging task. Conventional strategies rely on linear synthesis in which a parent framework is gradually extended.

Here, we report the synthesis of a family of chiral ZnL tetrahedral cages by subcomponent self-assembly. These cages contain a flexible trialdehyde subcomponent that allows them to adopt stereochemically distinct configurations. The incorporation of enantiopure 1-phenylethylamine produced Δ and Λ enantiopure cages, in contrast to the racemates that resulted from the incorporation of achiral 4-methoxyaniline.

This paper is a write-up of the ideas that were presented, developed and discussed at the fourth International Workshop on QCD Challenges from pp to AA, which took place in February 2023 in Padua, Italy. The goal of the workshop was to focus on some of the open questions in the field of high-energy heavy-ion physics and to stimulate the formulation of concrete suggestions for making progresses on both the experimental and theoretical sides. The paper gives a brief introduction to each topic and then summarizes the primary results.

Paper crafts, such as origami and kirigami, have become an interdisciplinary research theme transportable from art to science, and further to engineering. Kirigami-inspired architectural design strategies allow the establishment of three-dimensional (3D) mechanical linkages with unprecedented mechanical properties. Herein, we report a crystalline zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF), displaying folding mechanics based on a kirigami tessellation, originated from the double-corrugation surface (DCS) pattern.

The coherent spin dynamics of electrons and holes in CsPbI perovskite nanocrystals in a glass matrix are studied by the time-resolved Faraday ellipticity technique in magnetic fields up to 430 mT across a temperature range from 6 K to 120 K. The Landé -factors and spin dephasing times are evaluated from the observed Larmor precession of electron and hole spins. The nanocrystal size in the three studied samples varies from about 8 to 16 nm, resulting in exciton transition varying from 1.

A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.

Linear amines, from propylamine to nonylamine, are studied under ambient conditions by X-ray scattering and molecular dynamics simulations of various force field models. The major finding is that the prepeak in alkylamines is about 1 order of magnitude weaker than that in alkanols, hence suggesting much weaker hydrogen bonding-induced clustering of the amine groups than for the hydroxyl groups. Computer simulation studies reveal that the OPLS-UA model reproduces the prepeak, but with larger amplitudes, while the GROMOS-UA and CHARMM-AA force fields show almost no prepeak.

Coordination polymers (CPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) constitute a new class of antibacterial materials. Interest in them stems from their wide range of topology, dimensionality, and secondary building units that can be tuned by an appropriate choice of metal ions and ligands. In particular, silver-based species feature good antibacterial properties.

Over the past decades, single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy have advanced and represent essential tools for life science research. There is, however, a growing gap between the state of the art and what is accessible to biologists, biochemists, medical researchers, or labs with financial constraints. To bridge this gap, we introduce Brick-MIC, a versatile and affordable open-source 3D-printed microspectroscopy and imaging platform.

This Letter presents results from a combination of searches for Higgs boson pair production using 126-140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. At 95% confidence level (CL), the upper limit on the production rate is 2.9 times the standard model (SM) prediction, with an expected limit of 2.

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} decays using a pp collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment in 2012 and from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.7 fb^{-1}, is presented. The initial flavor of each D^{0} candidate is determined from the charge of the pion produced in the D^{*}(2010)^{+}→D^{0}π^{+} decay.
