Background/objectives: Hyperlipidemia is a serious risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and liver steatosis. In this work, we explored the effect of an herbal formula (CBF) containing immature pods and extracts on lipid metabolism disorders and lipoprotein-rich plasma (LRP) oxidation in mice.
Methods: The phenolic composition was determined using HPLC-DAD analysis.

The fibula, despite being traditionally overlooked compared to the femur and the tibia, has recently received attention in primate functional morphology due to its correlation with the degree of arboreality (DOA). Highlighting further fibular features that are associated with arboreal habits would be key to improving palaeobiological inferences in fossil specimens. Here we present the first investigation on the trabecular bone structure of the primate fibula, focusing on the distal epiphysis, across a vast array of species.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a severe pain disorder with an unclear pathophysiology. Biomarkers offer opportunities to enhance diagnosis, stratification, prognosis, and monitoring. Serum markers such as cytokines and microRNAs show potential but require further research.

Isotope Exchange processes are becoming the preferred way to prepare isotopically labelled molecules, avoiding the redesign of multistep synthetic protocols. In the case of deuterium incorporation, the most used strategy has employed transition metals, that offer high reactivity under mild reaction conditions. Despite their success, the trade-off is that these metals are precious, and often exhibit high toxicity.

Purpose: To investigate the frequency of CBCT scans, the exposure settings, volume sizes and the patient demographics (age and sex) of patients undergoing CBCT scans in university-based dental hospitals in different European countries over a one-year period.
Method: Eight University Dental Hospitals from eight countries in central and northern Europe agreed to collect data from their CBCT-databases. Exposure data including field of view (FOV), dose area product (DAP) and optimization settings plus (anonymous) age and sex of the patients were collected for the entire year 2023.

Switzerland has been considered free of terrestrial rabies for more than 20 years. Nevertheless, the topics of rabies and rabies vaccination are more relevant than ever. On the one hand, this is because the demand for vaccines is increasing due to the increasing mobility of humans and animals, and on the other hand, there are frequent vaccine supply shortages.

Domestication process effects are manifold, affecting genotype and phenotype, and assumed to be universal in animals by part of the scientific community. While mammals and birds have been thoroughly investigated, from taming to intensive selective breeding, fish domestication remains comparatively unstudied. The most widely bred and traded ornamental fish species worldwide, the goldfish, underwent the effect of long-term artificial selection on differing skeletal and soft tissue modules through ornamental domestication.

Advancing the use of air-sensitive polar organometallic Grignard and organolithium reagents under more environmentally benign conditions, here we report the addition of these reagents to α,β-unsaturated ketones and aldehydes using the deep eutectic solvent (DES) choline chloride (ChCl): glycerol (Gly) (1 : 2), under air. Reactions occur at room temperature within seconds with excellent regioselective control. Furthering understanding of how these C-C bond forming processes take place in these reaction media, we have explored the surface concentration of the organic substrate (chalcone) in DES using interfacial tension and neutron reflectivity measurements, finding that chalcone is concentrated at the DES-hydrocarbon interface compared to the bulk concentration, although the interfacial chalcone concentration is still relatively low in this system.

Background: Preclinical studies indicate that the systemic application of C1-inhibitor, clinically used to treat hereditary angioedema, reduces secondary brain injury after ischemic stroke. This study assessed the effect of C1-inhibitor on secondary brain injury after hemorrhagic stroke.
Methods: We used an established striatal whole-blood injection mouse model to mimic intracerebral hemorrhage-related secondary brain injury.

Bronchiectasis is an etiologically heterogeneous, chronic, and often progressive respiratory disease characterized by irreversible bronchial dilation. It is frequently associated with significant symptom burden, multiple complications, and reduced quality of life. For several years, there has been a marked global increase in the prevalence of bronchiectasis, which is linked to a substantial economic burden on healthcare systems.

Aims Of The Study: Health equity is a key component of quality of care and an objective for a growing number of quality improvement projects for deontological, ethical, public health and economic reasons. To monitor equity in the delivery of health services in Switzerland, there is a need to implement valid, measurable and actionable equity indicators, along with vulnerability stratifiers such as migrant status, which could lead to differences in quality of care. The aim of this study was to develop a set of healthcare equity indicators and stratifiers targeting inpatient and outpatient populations and to test their feasibility.

The COST EU-PoTaRCh Action establishes a network focused on the past, present, and future significance, production, and use of major forest by-products in Europe and beyond. The Action centers around forest by-products-primarily potash, tar, resin, and charcoal (PoTaRCh), along with plant extracts-which have been produced and utilized for over 100,000 years due to their unique chemical, biological, and therapeutic properties. The primary goal of the Action is to demonstrate the importance of these products for the socio-economic development of European countries and beyond, as well as their impact on biodiversity and the natural environment.

The synthesis and characterization of the lithium m-terphenylhydridoborates [Li(2,6-MesCH)BH] (1), Li(2,6-MesCH)BH (2) and Li(OEt)(2,6-MesCH)BH (3) are reported. Hirshfeld Atom Refinement (HAR) of the experimentally obtained molecular structures by single-crystal X-ray crystallography allowed the determination of the exact positions of the hydrogen atoms. The bond situations of the various B-H⋅⋅⋅Li linkages were investigated by a complementary bonding analysis using various methods including atoms in molecules (AIM), electron localizability indicator (ELI-D), non-covalent interaction (NCI) index and the compliance matrix.

Recently, a new hereditary disease, bovine lymphocyte intestinal retention defect (BLIRD), was discovered in Holstein cattle in France and is caused by a variant in the Integrin subunit beta 7 (ITGB7) gene. The altered cell adhesion molecule resulting from this point mutation is responsible for an impaired tissue of CD4 T lymphocytes from the blood to intestinal tissue. The aim of this study was to assess the allelic frequency of this deleterious variant in the local Holstein population and to clinically examine ten BLIRD-affected Holstein cattle from Switzerland in order to characterise the phenotype of this new hereditary disease, which is still unknown to the veterinary community.
