The objective of the study was to assess the pathogenic and treatment relevance of Platelet Activating factor (PAF) in chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). The expression and cellular location of PAF receptor (PAFR) and serum levels of PAF and PAF acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH) in patients with moderate/severe CSU (n = 45) and healthy controls (HCs, n = 17) were studied. Skin samples from the active wheal (LS-CSU, 13 samples for qPCR and 33 for immunohistochemistry) and non-lesional skin (NLS-CSU, 13 samples) of CSU patients and HCs (13 samples and 5 for immunohistochemistry) were analyzed.

Background: The clinical and economic burden of community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) is significant and is anticipated to increase as the population ages and pathogens become more resistant. Delafloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic approved in the United States for the treatment of adults with acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections. Delafloxacin's shape and charge profile uniquely impact its spectrum of activity and side effect profile.

In recent years, many new designer drugs have emerged, including the group of cathinone derivatives. One frequently occurring drug is mephedrone; although mephedrone was originally considered as a "legal high" product, it is currently banned in most Western countries. Despite the banning, abuse of the drug and seizures are continuously reported.

Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) regulate stromal cells, epithelial cells and cells of the immune system, but their effect on B cells remains unclear. Here we identified RORγt(+) ILCs near the marginal zone (MZ), a splenic compartment that contains innate-like B cells highly responsive to circulating T cell-independent (TI) antigens. Splenic ILCs established bidirectional crosstalk with MAdCAM-1(+) marginal reticular cells by providing tumor-necrosis factor (TNF) and lymphotoxin, and they stimulated MZ B cells via B cell-activation factor (BAFF), the ligand of the costimulatory receptor CD40 (CD40L) and the Notch ligand Delta-like 1 (DLL1).

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hospital del Mar-Parc de Salut Mar, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Passeig Marítim 25-29, 08003, Barcelona, Spain,

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report a comprehensive literature review on the risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in male athletes.

Methods: All abstracts were read and articles of potential interest were reviewed in detail to determine on inclusion status for systematic review. Information regarding risk factors for ACL injuries in male athletes was extracted from all included studies in systematic fashion and classified as environmental, anatomical, hormonal, neuromuscular, or biomechanical.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) expresses neuroectodermal markers including HuD, the best characterized member of the Hu gene family. The aim of this study is to optimize a simple and sensitive reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assay to detect circulating HuD-expressing cells for the early detection of SCLC recurrences. HuD-specific primers that selectively amplify the three HuD isoforms allowed the detection of one tumor cell/10(6) non-tumor cells.
