- Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare disorder affecting the myelin sheath, whereas neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) with anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies (AQP4-Ab) damages astrocytes.
- A 49-year-old woman with vertigo and blurred vision was diagnosed with both CIDP and NMOSD after imaging and testing showed multiple lesions and AQP4-Ab positivity, in addition to weakness in her lower motor neurons.
- Treatment with corticosteroids and immunosuppressants led to her clinical improvement, highlighting the need for more research into the overlapping mechanisms of these two demyelinating conditions.
