Background: In Indonesia, the number of Type 2 diabetes cases is increasing rapidly, making it the third leading cause of death and among the leading noncommunicable disease healthcare expenditures in the country. Thus, there is a critical need for Indonesians with Type 2 diabetes to perform better self-care to optimize their health and prevent the onset of comorbidities.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the influence of knowledge, depression, and perceived barriers on Type 2 diabetes self-care performance in Indonesia.

A fluorescence probe based on iron oxide quantum dots (IO-QDs) was synthesized using the hydrothermal method for the determination of tetracycline (TCy) and ciprofloxacin (CPx) in aqueous solution. The IO-QDs were characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The as-prepared IO-QDs are fluorescent, stable, and with a fluorescence quantum yield (QY) of 9.

Division of Gastroenterology, Pancreatobiliary and Digestive Endoscopy, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Introduction: Colonoscopy may detect colorectal polyp and facilitate its removal in order to prevent colorectal cancer. However, substantial miss rate for colorectal adenomas detection still occurred during screening colonoscopy procedure. Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) have been employed in trials to improve polyp detection rate (PDR) and adenoma detection rate (ADR).

Tetracycline is an antibiotic that has been prescribed for COVID-19 treatment, raising concerns about antibiotic resistance after long-term use. This study reported fluorescent polyvinylpyrrolidone-passivated iron oxide quantum dots (IO QDs) for detecting tetracycline in biological fluids for the first time. The as-prepared IO QDs have an average size of 2.

Two classes of β-thioketiminate ligands, SN chelators (HL1 and HL2) and SNN chelators (HL3 and HL4), were prepared to understand their coordination behavior in copper(I) complex formation. The formation of these copper(I) complexes bearing β-thioketiminate ligands and their corresponding adducts toward isocyanide, PPh, and CO was investigated to address two important issues. First, whether the denticity governs the copper(I) thiolate species formation between SN chelators and SNN chelators.

The fabrication of iron oxide quantum dots (IO-QDs) modified with glutamic acid (Glu) under controllable conditions is reported. The IO-QDs have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy, spectrofluorometry, powder X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The IO-QDs exhibited good stability towards irradiation, temperature elevations, and ionic strength, and the quantum yield (QY) of IO-QDs was calculated to be 11.

In this study, new nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) were prepared by utilizing rambutan seed waste and l-aspartic acid as dual precursors (carbon and nitrogen sources) through a hydrothermal treatment method. The N-CDs showed blue emission in solution under UV light irradiation. Their optical and physicochemical properties were examined UV-vis, TEM, FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, DSC, DTA, TGA, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and zeta potential analyses.

This study evaluated the effects of an aqueous extract of (AEC) on cardiometabolic syndrome markers, and the modulation of the gut microbiome in mice administered a cholesterol- and fat-enriched diet (CFED). Four groups of mice received different treatments: normal diet, CFED, and CFED added with AEC extract at 65 and 130 mg/kg body weight (BW). The effective concentration (EC) values of AEC for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and lipase inhibition were lower than those of the controls in vitro.

Screening of pancreatic cancer: Target population, optimal timing and how?

Ann Med Surg (Lond)

December 2022

Division of Gastroenterology, Pancreatobiliary and Digestive Endoscopy, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Pancreatic cancer patients usually present at a late stage due to subtle clinical manifestations. One of the most predictive prognostic factors in pancreatic cancer is the pancreatic cancer stage at diagnosis; therefore, early diagnosis is essential. Until now, pancreatic cancer screening has not become a standard practice for the general population due to the low incidence.

Wallacea-the meeting point between the Asian and Australian fauna-is one of the world's largest centers of endemism. Twenty-three million years of complex geological history have given rise to a living laboratory for the study of evolution and biodiversity, highly vulnerable to anthropogenic pressures. In the present article, we review the historic and contemporary processes shaping Wallacea's biodiversity and explore ways to conserve its unique ecosystems.

Indonesian Dermatomycosis Study Group-Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • Malassezia folliculitis (MF) is a fungal skin condition prevalent in humid environments, with inaccurate diagnoses leading to improper treatments and disease worsening.
  • A study in Indonesia from 2014 to 2018 analyzed 353 MF cases, primarily affecting young males (66.3%), with itchy sensations and papulopustular lesions being the most common symptoms.
  • Statistically significant results showed a strong correlation between clinical manifestations and diagnostic methods (KOH examination and Wood's lamp), indicating agreement between these diagnostic tools in confirming MF presence.

IO QDs using the hydrothermal method were prepared with different conditions (concentration of NPs, amount of citric acid, heating time, heating temperature, and total volume in the hydrothermal reactor) where iron oxide nanoparticles (IO NPs) were used as the starting materials. TEM, FTIR, UV-Vis Spectrometry, fluorescence spectrometry, Powder XRD, VSM were used to characterize the as-prepared IO QDs.
