Nuclear fusion is entering the era of power plant-scale devices, which are now undergoing extensive studies to support the design phase. Plasma disruptions pose a high risk to these classes of devices because of the large stored thermal and magnetic energy which might jeopardize machine integrity and availability. Therefore, disruptions within these devices must be virtually eliminated, and any disruptions which do happen must be highly mitigated.

Background: The abandonment of psychotherapeutic treatments is influenced by various factors, including patient characteristics, therapist traits, and the therapeutic relationship. Despite the well-documented importance of these factors, limited empirical research has focused on the role of the therapeutic relationship and the characteristics of therapist-patient dyads in predicting treatment dropout. This study protocol outlines a longitudinal research project aimed at predicting dropout and non-response in psychotherapy for individuals with personality disorders.

Beef burgers are perishable meat products, and to extend their shelf life, EU Regulation 1129/11 permits the use of certain additives. However, given the concerns of health-conscious consumers and the potential toxicity of synthetic substances, this study aimed to explore the use of fennel waste extracts as natural preservatives. This study characterized the bioactive compounds (phenolic content), the antioxidant activity (ABTS and DPPH assay), and the antimicrobial properties (against serotype Enteritidis, , , and ) of different fennel waste extracts (LF, liquid fraction; SF, solid fraction and PF, pellet fraction).

Exploring Gender Differences in Internet Addiction and Psychological Factors: A Study in a Spanish Sample.

Brain Sci

October 2024

Department de Psicologia Bàsica, Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy, Universitat de València, Av. Blasco Ibañez, 21, 46010 Valencia, Spain.

Background/objectives: Internet addiction (IA) and related behaviors, such as Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and social media addiction (SMA), have gained increasing research attention. Studies show gender differences, with males more likely to develop gaming-related addictions and females more prone to social media and phubbing behaviors. This study aimed to explore gender differences in Internet addiction and related behaviors in a Spanish sample, with the goal of identifying predictors and gender-specific patterns of IA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how personality traits and emotional intelligence (EI) influence people's perceptions of the benefits and costs of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Emotional stability and emotion regulation positively impacted the recognition of social distancing benefits, while extroversion had a negative effect.
  • It suggests that enhancing emotional intelligence could improve public response during health crises, highlighting the need for communication strategies and EI development programs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on translating the Measure of Activity Performance of the Hand (MAP-Hand) into Turkish and assessing its effectiveness for those with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • The translated MAP-Hand was pilot tested on 30 participants and later administered to 185 adults, collecting various physical and health-related data.
  • Results indicated that the Turkish MAP-Hand is reliable and valid, showing high internal consistency and strong correlations with disease activity, pain levels, and hand strength, proving its usefulness in evaluating hand function.

The study addresses the challenge of utilizing human gut microbiome data for the early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC). The research emphasizes the potential of using machine learning techniques to analyze complex microbiome datasets, providing a non-invasive approach to identifying CRC-related microbial markers. The primary hypothesis is that a robust machine learning-based analysis of 16S rRNA microbiome data can identify specific microbial features that serve as effective biomarkers for CRC detection, overcoming the limitations of classical statistical models in high-dimensional settings.

Introduction: Cannabidiol (CBD) exhibits neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties, making it a promising candidate for addressing inflammatory skin disorders like atopic dermatitis.

Aim: This study aimed to (i) investigate CBD's impact on lymphocyte proliferation and lymphocyte viability; (ii) assess cytotoxicity U937 cells (a human promonocytic cell line) of CBD/cytotoxicity of CBD on U937 cells; (iii) provide insights into CBD immunomodulatory potential, and (iv) evaluate suitability of CBD for treating inflammatory skin conditions.

Material And Methods: To this aim PBMCs from healthy donors were cultured with mitogen and two different CBD doses (0.

The role of the therapist has received growing attention in psychotherapy research, suggesting that training effectiveness may also depend on the person of the trainees, with relevant implications in terms of candidate selection or tailoring training to the person. In the present study, we focused on how and how much psychotherapy training can be effective in fostering trainees' characteristics associated with successful therapists and contrast trainees' characteristics that could represent limitations as therapists. The aim was to explore training program directors' perspectives on individual trainees' limitations and strengths, and on the effectiveness of training in shaping successful therapists.

Decoding acceptance and reappraisal strategies from resting state macro networks.

Sci Rep

August 2024

DiPSCo-Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, University of Trento, Corso Bettini, 84, 38068, Rovereto, Italy.

Acceptance and reappraisal are considered adaptive emotion regulation strategies. While previous studies have explored the neural underpinnings of these strategies using task-based fMRI and sMRI, a gap exists in the literature concerning resting-state functional brain networks' contributions to these abilities, especially regarding acceptance. Another intriguing question is whether these strategies rely on similar or different neural mechanisms.

Aim: In this study, we investigated culturable yeast community, present in grape must sampled from vineyards with apiaries on the borders, and in honey bees collected in these apiaries.

Methods And Results: To this aim, yeasts isolated from spontaneously fermented grapes randomly collected in two vineyards (P1 and P2) with apiaries on the borders (A1 and A2) were compared to those isolated from spontaneously fermented grapes collected from a vineyard without apiary (P4). At the same time, yeast community was analyzed on bees collected in each apiary placed in the vineyards, in comparison to yeasts isolated from an apiary (A3) located far from the vineyards.

: Gambling Disorder (GD) is a bio-psycho-social disorder resulting from the interaction of clinical, cognitive, and affective factors. Impulsivity is a crucial factor in addiction studies, as it is closely linked to cognitive distortions in GD by encompassing impulsive choices, motor responses, decision-making, and cognitive biases. Also, emotions, mood, temperament, and affective state are crucial in developing and maintaining GD.

The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to recognize and regulate emotions to appropriately guide cognition and behaviour. Unfortunately, studies on the neural bases of EI are scant, and no study so far has exhaustively investigated grey matter (GM) and white matter (WM) contributions to it. To fill this gap, we analysed trait measure of EI and structural MRI data from 128 healthy participants to shed new light on where and how EI is encoded in the brain.

In recent years, the unprecedented spread of the Avian Influenza Viruses (AIVs) among birds and mammals has caused devastation in animal populations, including poultry, wild birds, and some mammals, damaging farmers' livelihoods and the food trade. Given the urgency of the situation, it is particularly important that scientists and the public can access research results and data as soon as possible. The main aim of this study is to present a global open-access dataset of Avian Influenza outbreaks to enable researchers and policymakers (i) to rapidly detect, and respond to animal outbreaks as the first line of defense; (ii) to conduct epidemiological and virological investigations around animal outbreaks and human infections; and (iii) to communicate the risk.
