Geospatial Access to Emergency Obstetric Surgery in Indonesia: Is Travel Time for Access Too Long?

Ensuring timely access to safe and affordable surgery within a travel time of a 2‑h drive or 30‑min walk is crucial for achieving universal health coverage, as endorsed by the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery (LCoGS). In this study, we aimed to quantify the percentage of Indonesian women of reproductive age (WRA) who can access a hospital with emergency obstetric and gynecological services within this time frame. In addition, we aimed to identify the underserved populations.

Factors Associated With Prelacteal Feeding of Commercial Milk Formula: An Analysis of Cohort Data From the BADUTA Study in Indonesia.

Introducing commercial milk formula (CMF) as prelacteal feeds can disturb exclusive breastfeeding and shorten breastfeeding duration. However, the prelacteal feeding of CMF has been growing alongside its increasing sales in Indonesia. This study examined predictors of the CMF feeding in the Malang and Sidoarjo districts of Indonesia.

Problem nutrients in diet of under-five children and district food security status: Linear programming analyses of 37 stunting priority districts in Indonesia.

Background: In Indonesia, food security and dietary patterns varied by regions. This might lead to differences in problem nutrients (PN) and should be considered in developing local-specific food-based recommendations (FBRs) for stunting prevention.

Objectives: This study aims to identify PNs in diet of under-five children in selected 37 stunting priority districts in Indonesia and assess whether the number of PNs was associated with district food security status.

Utilisation of Oocyte Diameter as a Non-invasive Indicator of Oocyte and Embryo Quality: Investigating Protein Kinase B Protein Expression in Cumulus-Granulosa Cells and Embryo Morphokinetics.

Background: Oocyte diameter is crucial for initiating meiosis and supporting the maturation capability, a prerequisite for successful fertilisation and high-quality embryo development. While numerous studies have explored the correlation between oocyte diameter and embryo development capacity in animal models, limited research appears concerning human oocytes.

Aim: This study aims to ascertain whether oocyte diameter can serve as a reliable predictor of oocyte and embryo quality, achieved through its correlation with protein kinase B (Akt) protein levels on cumulus-granulosa cells and blastocyst morphokinetics.

A framework for improved collaboration on HTA in the Asia-Pacific region: a role for HTAsiaLink.

Countries frequently use health technology assessment (HTA) to set priorities for introducing new interventions or evaluating existing interventions; however, applying the tool effectively is heavily dependent on a country's resources and capacity. Infrastructure and data, technical expertise, broad stakeholder involvement, and financial support are required to improve HTA processes. In the Asia-Pacific, HTAsiaLink was established to facilitate this practice, but strengthening and legitimizing this organization are needed to maximize its potential to support HTA institutionalization in the region.

Association of Gut Microbiota Composition with Stunting Incidence in Children under Five in Jakarta Slums.

Background: Stunting can be linked to various factors, one of which is dysbiosis. This study aims to analyze the microbiota composition and related contributing factors of stunted and non-stunted children in the slum areas of Jakarta.

Methods: The subjects in this study included 21 stunted (HAZ ≤ -2SD) and 21 non-stunted children (-2SD ≤ HAZ ≤ 3SD) aged 2-5 years.

Background: Increasing numbers of people with HIV have received prolonged antiretroviral therapy (ART). We assessed long-term immunological and survival outcomes among people with HIV from Asia (TREAT Asia HIV Observational Database) and Australia (Australian HIV Observational Database).

Moreover, the cultural norms and rituals surrounding alcohol, prevalent in South Korea, are mirrored in K-dramas that have gained global audiences in recent years. The present study aimed to examine problematic K-drama series watching, and the potential associations with alcohol consumption among global adult audiences from Israel and Indonesia.

The International Breakfast Research Initiative-Evaluation and Comparison of Breakfast Nutrient Intakes in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines with a View to Proposing a Harmonised Nutrient-Based Breakfast Recommendation.

The International Breakfast Research Initiative is a global study of breakfast nutrition, involving 17 countries in four continents, aiming to derive nutrient-based regional recommendations for breakfast. This study aimed to propose a harmonised recommendation for three South-East Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. For each country, data from nationally representative dietary surveys on the contribution of breakfast to daily nutrient intakes at both the adult population level and at the level of the upper tertile of daily nutrient density using the Nutrient Rich Food (NRF) Index were collated and examined.

Risk factors for toxoplasmosis in people living with HIV in the Asia-Pacific region.

Introduction: Toxoplasma gondii can cause symptomatic toxoplasmosis in immunodeficient hosts, including in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH), mainly because of the reactivation of latent infection. We assessed the prevalence of toxoplasmosis and its associated risk factors in PLWH in the Asia-Pacific region using data from the TREAT Asia Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Observational Database (TAHOD) of the International Epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) Asia-Pacific.

Methods: This study included both retrospective and prospective cases of toxoplasmosis reported between 1997 and 2020.

Relapse Prevention Group Therapy in Indonesia Involving Peers via Videoconferencing for Substance Use Disorder: Development and Feasibility Study.

Background: Substance use disorder (SUD) is a major health issue in Indonesia, where several barriers to treatment exist, including inaccessibility to treatment services, stigma, and criminalization of drug issues. Peer involvement and the use of telemedicine to deliver psychotherapy are promising approaches to overcome these barriers.

Objective: This study aims (1) to describe the development of a new group psychotherapy coprovided by a health care worker and a peer and (2) to evaluate the acceptability, practicality, and preliminary outcomes of the program delivered via videoconferencing in Indonesia.

Background: Detection of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CR-PA) in humans is important to prevent transmission. However, the most optimal culture method to detect CR-PA is unknown. This systematic review aims to determine which culture method is most sensitive and which culture methods are used to detect CR-PA in humans.

Breaking boundaries in neurosurgery through art and technology: A historical perspective.

Introduction: Since the past, art has been used as a tool to elaborate anatomical knowledge and guide surgeons to perform surgeries. Through the eras, art has taken role by conveying the knowledge to people in forms of illustrations and models, including neuroanatomy knowledge for neurosurgical purposes. With the advancement of technology, neurosurgical trainings and care evolve more than before.

Using the Indonesian Computer-Based Game Prototype as a Computer-Based Game Inventory for Executive Function in Children and Adolescents: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Concurrent Validity Study.

Executive function influences children's learning abilities and organizes their cognitive processes, behaviors, and emotions. This cross-sectional study examined whether an Indonesian Computer-Based Game (ICbG) prototype could be used as a Computer-Based Game Inventory for Executive Function (CGIEF) in children and adolescents. The study was conducted with 200 children, adolescents, and their parents.

Supermicrosurgery lymphaticovenous and lymphaticolymphatic anastomosis: Technical detail and short-term follow-up for immediate lymphatic reconstruction in breast cancer treatment-related lymphedema prevention.

Objective: We describe the feasibility and short-term outcome of our surgical technique to repair the lymph vessel disruption directly after axillary lymph node dissection during breast cancer surgery. This procedure is called immediate lymphatic reconstruction to prevent breast cancer treatment-related lymphedema (BCRL), which frequently occurs after axillary lymph node dissection. The surgical technique consisted of lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) or lymphaticolymphatic anastomosis.

Background: Cooking at home was associated with parental feeding practices. This study aimed to explore the interplay of components in cooking behavior of mothers with young children aged 2-5 years old in Kendari city of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Methods: This qualitative study involved 33 mothers from Kendari city, which was represented by each two sub-districts in coastal and mainland areas that were randomlyselected.

The impact of government pandemic policies on the vulnerability of healthcare workers to SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality in Jakarta Province, Indonesia.

Introduction: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, putting them at a higher risk of infection and disease than non-HCWs. We analysed the effects of government policies for the public and for HCWs on the likelihood of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and mortality among HCWs during the first 8 months of the pandemic in Jakarta province, the capital city and COVID-19 hotspot in Indonesia.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using secondary data from the Jakarta provincial government from March to October 2020, which included sociodemographic characteristics, symptoms, comorbidities and COVID-19 diagnosis history for all cases.

The influence of screen time on behaviour and emotional problems among adolescents: A comparison study of the pre-, peak, and post-peak periods of COVID-19.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought drastic changes globally in the past three years, one of which is an increase in the use of digital media or electronic devices. Previous studies have shown that long screen time may stimulate the neurobiological system, resulting in various behavioural and emotional problems; however, there is insufficient population-based evidence. This study aimed to investigate the influence of screen time on behavioural and emotional problems in Indonesian adolescents at three time points: the pre-, peak, and post-peak periods of COVID-19.

Combined clinical and ultrasound criteria could accurately predict the Y chromosome in primary amenorrhea patient.

This study aimed to assess the combined clinical and ultrasound criteria as a diagnostic tool for screening the Y chromosome related to primary amenorrhea. This cross-sectional study involving 59 subjects was taken from medical records at the Reproductive Immunoendocrinology Polyclinic of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia. The medical records of subjects were then cross-checked with karyotyping analysis results.

Health first, convenience second: Caregiver perspectives of commercially produced complementary foods in five Southeast Asian capital cities.

Caregivers in low- and middle-income countries increasingly feed commercially produced complementary foods (CPCF) to older infants and young children-shaped by factors including industry promotion. The dynamics of CPCF consumption and caregiver knowledge, attitudes and behaviours regarding complementary feeding practices are poorly understood in these settings. We examined how caregiver knowledge/attitudes/behaviours about CPCF shape the feeding of older infants and young children in the capital cities of five countries in Southeast Asia (Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila).

TNFα induces Caspase-3 activity in hematopoietic progenitor cells CD34+, CD33+, and CD41 + of myelodysplastic syndromes.

Background: Cytopenia is the primary feature of Myelodysplastic Syndrome, even in the presence of hypercellular bone marrow. TNFα is recognized as both a proinflammatory, and proapoptotic cytokine with a well established role in promoting apoptosis in MDS. Therefore, TNFα has the potential to be a valuable biomarker for predicting the progression of cytopenia in MDS.

Plant protein consumption is associated with body mass index among women of reproductive age in Indonesia.

Introduction: One of the known determinants of obesity in Southeast Asia countries, including Indonesia, is the nutritional transition, which is indicated by fast changes in food production, dietary habits, and physical activity. With rising incomes, plant protein from grains, tubers, and legumes is gradually being replaced by animal protein from poultry, eggs, dairy, and red meat. This change is identified as a protein transition.

Designing Optimal Food-Based Recommendations and Nutrient-Dense Canteen Menu for Oil and Gas Workers Using Linear Programming: A Preliminary Study in Oil and Gas Worksite in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The objective of this study is to identify problem nutrients and to develop food-based recommendations (FBRs) and nutrient-dense menus based on the nutrient gaps. This study was conducted among male workers ( = 31) in an oil and gas worksite in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Body weight, height, waist circumference, as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured.
