Objective: Medical Safety Practice (MSP) is a safe procedure in medication process. It is important to investigate the use of MSP among childhood cancer patients because pediatric oncology is a high-risk area for potentially harmful adverse events. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of the implementation of MSP in chemotherapy on the incidence of medication errors in childhood ALL patient at Dr.

Background: Several pull-through procedures have been described for Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) with varying functional outcomes. The voluntary bowel movement (VBM) and the absence of soiling or constipation after pull-through remain the most important markers of good outcome. We aimed to compare the functional outcomes in HSCR patients following Soave and Duhamel procedures.

Background: A vesicovaginal fistula is an abnormal fistulous tract extending between the bladder and the vagina that allows the continuous involuntary discharge of urine into the vaginal vault. In addition, the sequelae from these fistulae have a profound effect on the patients in view of their physical, psychological, and social dimensions. The treatment of vesicovaginal fistula is surgical in most cases and the choice of the repair technique is controversial.

Background: Some Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) patients showed persistent bowel symptoms following an appropriately performed pull-through procedure. The mechanism is presumed to be down-regulated small-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel 3 (SK3) expression in the HSCR ganglionic intestines. We aimed to investigate the SK3 expression's impact in HSCR patients after a properly performed pull-through surgery in an Indonesian population, a genetically distinct group within Asia.

Constipation is a digestive disorder that often occurs in the elderly; its main cause is bowel motility disorder. Treatments for patients with chronic constipation include pharmacotherapy, diet changes, and surgery if other therapies do not offer satisfactory results. We describe 4 patients, 2 men (70 and 65 years old) and 2 women (75 and 66 years old), who were diagnosed with chronic constipation (slow transit constipation) and treated with conventional therapy, but did not improve.

Dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DHP) has been the first-line treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to both and infections in Papua, Indonesia, since March 2006. The efficacy of DHP was reassessed to determine whether there had been any decline following almost a decade of its extensive use. An open-label drug efficacy study of DHP for uncomplicated and malaria was carried out between March 2015 and April 2016 in Timika, Papua, Indonesia.

Background: Infant morbidity and mortality rates remain high in Indonesia, with acute respiratory illnesses (ARI) and diarrhea the leading two health problems in children under 5 years. We aimed to describe the nutritional status, feeding practice and case management of ARI and diarrhea of infants from two regions of Indonesia during the first 6 months of life.
Methods: This study was an observational study conducted in parallel to an immunogenicity and efficacy trial of an oral rotavirus vaccine (RV3-BB) in the Klaten and Yogyakarta regions, Indonesia.

Moisturizer is a major component of basic daily skin care, particularly in presence of epidermal barrier alteration and reduced epidermal water content. It is an important part of a dermatologist's strategy to maintain skin health as well as treating various dermatoses which co-exist with skin dryness and are linked to impaired skin barrier function, such as in atopic disorders as well as other types of dermatitis. Mastering the knowledge regarding mechanism of action, application, dosage, adverse effects as well as specific clinical usage of moisturizers is a must for a dermatologist in order to support their use, particularly for evidence-based, therapeutic purposes.

Background: Mal de Meleda (OMIM# 248300; keratosis palmoplantaris transgrediens) is an autosomal recessive form of palmoplantar keratoderma, clinically characterized by sharp demarcated erythema and hyperkeratosis of the palms and soles that progress with age and extend to the dorsal aspects of the hands and feet. The mal de Meleda is caused by mutations in the SLURP1 gene that encodes secreted lymphocyte antigen 6/urokinase-type plasminogen receptor-related protein 1 (SLURP1). To date no reported cases from Indonesia.

Because most surgeons perform an esophagectomy and colonic transposition as the main reconstruction method for patients with esophageal stenosis caused by swallowing corrosive materials, we report 2 cases in which ileocolonic transposition was used to treat such patients. Both patients displayed stenosis in the middle third of the esophagus. Their chief complaint was dysphagia.

Epstein-Barr (EBV) infection and presence of a nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) case in the family increases the risk of developing NPC. Aberrant anti-EBV immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibodies (EBV-IgA) may be present in the sera of non-cancer individuals and predict NPC. Limited studies report the presence of EBV-IgA antibodies within non-cancer individuals in Indonesia where the disease is prevalent.

Background: While immunohistochemistry (IHC) methods have been widely conducted for the diagnosis of Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) in developed countries, there are very few studies on their use in developing countries where hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining is a key element of the diagnosis of HSCR. We aimed to determine the accuracy of HE staining in the diagnosis of HSCR using S100 IHC as the reference standard in Indonesia.
Methods: All histopathology performed for the suspicion of HSCR patients from January 2013 to August 2015 in Dr.

Purpose: Recently, genetic markers within a locus on 7q21.11 containing the SEMA3A, SEMA3C, and SEMA3D genes were reported to be associated with Hirschsprung disease (HSCR). Here, we investigated three polymorphisms, rs1583147, rs12707682, and rs11766001, at this locus to determine their potential contributions to the susceptibility of Indonesian HSCR patients.

Background: Recently, the common RET rs2435357 variant has been shown to be strongly related to Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) in the Indonesian population. This association study was conducted in developed areas using high-throughput TaqMan polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. Although the TaqMan method is less time-consuming, it requires a special more expensive PCR machine and a highly skilled analyst.

Introduction: Activated platelets generate microparticles. Increased platelet microparticles occur in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and contribute to intracoronary thrombosis and subsequent myocardial injury. This study aimed to investigate the impact of platelet microparticles on intracoronary thrombosis by assessing the relationship between platelet microparticles and the extent of myocardial damage in AMI.
