Background: Chemotherapy has a substantial role in decreasing the risk of recurrence and mortality in breast cancer (BC) in a dose-dependent manner where a low relative dose intensity (RDI) is associated with unfavorable outcomes. Several baseline clinicopathological factors, including pro-inflammatory biomarkers, were found to be significant determinants of low RDI. This study aimed to explore the occurrence of low RDI and its influencing factors in women with BC.

Objective: Ultrahigh frequencies (UHF) have been shown to selectively suppress the sensory pathway with a rapid onset and prolonged effect compared with low frequencies. Few studies have explored the feasibility of UHF electrical stimulation in treating overactive bladder. This study aimed to investigate whether bladder overactivity could be inhibited by UHF stimulation at the L6 nerve root.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how different backgrounds affect self-stigma in young men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
  • It involved 72 participants who answered questions about their experiences and feelings of self-stigma, finding that education level was tied to more severe self-stigma.
  • The research suggests that factors like education, jobs, and family support play a big role in how these young men view themselves and their lives with HIV, leading to advice for more studies on improving their quality of life.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) in Indonesia, finding that EOCRC patients mostly have higher education, are single, and tend to be underweight compared to those with average-onset colorectal cancer (AOCRC).
  • Despite these differences, the overall survival rates for EOCRC (34.2%) and AOCRC (36.9%) are relatively similar.
  • The research emphasizes the need for further studies to explore risk factors and social determinants affecting EOCRC, which is becoming a significant public health concern.

Hemangioblastomas are rare, benign, and highly vascular tumors of the central nervous system, often associated with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome, an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by multiple tumors. We present a case of a 32-year-old male with progressive headaches, visual disturbances, and motor deficits, who was diagnosed with multiple hemangioblastomas in the cervical-thoracic spinal cord and bilateral cerebellum through MRI. Surgical resection and histopathological biopsy confirmed the diagnosis.

Introduction:  One of the etiologies of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is chronic infection related to lymphoma pathogenesis, with a high prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection seen. In determining the treatment and prognosis of NHL, cluster of differentiation 30 (CD30) immunohistochemical staining plays an important role. High levels of CD30 are found in patients with HCV infection.

High Probability of Lynch Syndrome Among Colorectal Cancer Patients Is Associated With Higher Occurrence of KRAS and PIK3CA Mutations.

World J Oncol

August 2024

Pathgen Diagnostik Teknologi, Ir. Soekarno Science and Technology Park, National Research and Innovation Agency Republic of Indonesia, Bogor, Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • In Indonesia, early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) occurs more frequently in those under 50, potentially linked to a higher incidence of Lynch syndrome (LS) among CRC patients.
  • A study at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital examined 244 samples for mutations in KRAS and PIK3CA, finding significant associations between these mutations, microsatellite instability (MSI) status, and Lynch syndrome.
  • Results indicated that KRAS mutations correlate with right-sided colorectal cancer and higher histology grades, while PIK3CA mutations link to female patients and lower tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte levels; however, neither mutation significantly impacted overall survival.

Stepping into the Light: Defining Culprit Lesion in Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

J Saudi Heart Assoc

June 2024

Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada - Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Identifying the infarct-related artery (IRA) in a non-ST-segment-elevation acute myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) can be very challenging, particularly in a hospital that cannot perform intracoronary imaging due to certain limitations. This is because, by angiography, most patients present with multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD), diffuse disease, or non-significant CAD. We present a case of a 60-year-old female patient presented with substernal chest pain and palpitations of 6 h duration.

Until now, leprosy remains a problem and challenge in the world because it can cause disability and morbidity in affected individuals, including problems due to the emergence of type 2 lepra reaction or erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). The clinical picture of ENL can appear in an atypical and severe form, called ENL necroticans (ENN), which becomes a problem in diagnosis and therapy. We report a 17-year-old female with lepromatous leprosy and ENN who received therapy in the form of a combination of steroids and methotrexate.
