The postponement of elections during the COVID-19 pandemic reflects a decline in global democracy. The policy of postponing elections due to health concerns, regulatory changes, and economic crises lacks empirical evidence. Several studies suggest that holding elections in countries that proceed with them does not significantly impact the spread of COVID-19.

Background: With the exponential growth of high-throughput technologies, multiple pathway analysis methods have been proposed to estimate pathway activities from gene expression profiles. These pathway activity inference methods can be divided into two main categories: non-Topology-Based (non-TB) and Pathway Topology-Based (PTB) methods. Although some review and survey articles discussed the topic from different aspects, there is a lack of systematic assessment and comparisons on the robustness of these approaches.

Background: This study investigated the association between elevated risk of developing diabetes and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in the Indonesian population.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1,336 Indonesians from the general population who had no previous diagnosis of diabetes. Utility score to represent HRQoL was measured using the EuroQol 5-dimension, while the risk for developing diabetes was determined using the Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) instrument.

Antiretroviral treatment (ART) appropriately and regularly used decreases the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) viral load in the bloodstream, preventing HIV-infected people from spreading the infection to others. Disparities in ART adoption persists in East and Southern Africa, with low HIV-positive status knowledge being the primary factor. We investigated individual and household characteristics of HIV-positive status awareness among adults with long-term HIV infection in four East and Southern African countries: Eswatini, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

Hemorrhoids are a prevalent medical condition that necessitates effective treatment options. The current options for treatment consist of oral medications, topical applications, or surgery, yet a scarcity of highly effective drugs still exists. Genetic markers provide promising avenues for investigating the treatment of hemorrhoids, as they may reveal intricate biological mechanisms and targeted drug therapies, ultimately enhancing more precise treatment tailored to the patient.

Aim: This review aimed to describe the potential for therapeutic targeting of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway by repurposing the clinically-approved JAK inhibitor ruxolitinib in the patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (OC) setting.
Methods: We reviewed publications that focus on the inhibition of the JAK/STAT pathway in hematological and solid malignancies including OC.
Results: Preclinical studies showed that ruxolitinib effectively reduces OC cell viability and metastasis and enhances the anti-tumor activity of chemotherapy drugs.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), which results mainly from the selection of naturally resistant strains of (MTB) due to mismanaged treatment, poses a severe challenge to the global control of TB. Therefore, screening novel and unique drug targets against this pathogen is urgently needed. The metabolic pathways of and MTB were compared using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes tool, and further, the proteins that are involved in the metabolic pathways of MTB were subtracted and proceeded to protein-protein interaction network analysis, subcellular localization, drug ability testing, and gene ontology.
