Embodiment (the sensation that arises when the properties of an external instrument are processed as if they are the attributes of one's own biological body) and (tele)presence (the sensation of being fully engaged and immersed in a location other than the physical space occupied by one's body) sustain the perception of the physical self and potentially improve performance in teleoperations (a system that enables human intelligence to control robots and requires implementing an effective human-machine interface). Embodiment and presence may be interdependent and influenced by right temporo-parietal junction (rTPJ) activity. We investigated the interplay between embodiment, (tele)presence, and performance in teleoperation, focusing on the role of the rTPJ.

The emergence of vaccinomics and system vaccinology represents a transformative shift in immunization strategies, advocating for personalized vaccines tailored to individual genetic and immunological profiles. Integrating insights from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and immunology, personalized vaccines offer the promise of enhanced efficacy and safety, revolutionizing the field of vaccinology. However, the development of personalized vaccines presents multifaceted challenges, including technical, ethical, economic, and regulatory considerations.

Pharmacotherapy can be associated with life style changes in increasing and maintaining weight loss and ameliorating obesity-related complications and comorbidities. In patients affected by obesity and uncontrolled obesity-associated complications or high degrees of BMI (> 40 Kg/m), metabolic bariatric surgery can be a valid therapeutic option.

Introduction: Evidence from randomised controlled trials on anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) agents in patients with Behçet's syndrome (BS) is low.
Method: We conducted a phase 3, multicentre, prospective, randomised, active-controlled, parallel-group study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of either infliximab (IFX) or adalimumab (ADA) in patients with BS. Adults patients with BS presenting with active mucocutaneous manifestations, occurring while on therapy with either azathioprine or cyclosporine for at least 3 months prior to study entry, were eligible.

Climate change is intrinsically complex and demands a certain degree of abstraction. However, different individuals report a wide range and degree of tangible and sensory experiences of climate change. As perceptual and sensory awareness of climate change has important consequences for the promotion of sustainable behaviors, pro-climate policies, and clinical interventions for climate-related disorders such as climate anxiety, new specific tools are required: herein we detail the development of a psychometric measure of perceptual awareness of climate change, as well as provide evidence for its discriminant, convergent, and predictive validity for sustainable behaviors.

Background: Chronic back pain stands as the most common musculoskeletal disorder and a primary cause of disability in people under 45 years old. Multidisciplinary consultation offers an efficient approach to chronic back pain management compared to traditional therapeutic-rehabilitative paths. This paper aims to show the benefit of a diagnostic-therapeutic multidisciplinary program pathway for patients with chronic back pain.

Objective: Skull base anatomy around the internal carotid artery (ICA) is extremely complex. Among anatomical landmarks studied, the vidian canal has been thoroughly evaluated, unlike the vidian nerve (VN). Our aim is to evaluate the VN-ICA relationships, and understand their role in terms of surgical planning.

Pioneer studies suggested that liver transplantation (LT) has the potential to provide long-term survival in patients with liver-limited metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) not amenable for surgery of metastases. Evidence, however, was limited to single-arm studies with few patients enrolled and suboptimal selection criteria, with concerns over access to organ availability overcoming the potential efficacy of LT in this setting. Recently, 5-year survival rates with chemotherapy followed by LT (73%) compared with chemotherapy alone (9%) have been demonstrated by the randomized TransMet trial, enrolling 94 definitively unresectable strictly selected liver-limited mCRC patients.

Gliomas of the brainstem represent a small percentage of central nervous system gliomas in adults. Due to the proximity of the tumor to critical structures, radical surgery is highly challenging and limited to selected cases. In addition, postoperative treatments, which become exclusive to non-operable patients, do not guarantee satisfactory disease control, making the progression of the disease inevitable.

Background: Transsphenoidal surgery is the treatment of choice for Cushing's disease. Successful surgery is associated with subnormal postoperative serum cortisol concentrations and cortisoluria levels, which may guide decisions regarding immediate reoperation. Remission is defined as the biochemical reversal of hypercortisolism with the re-emergence of diurnal circadian rhythm.

This study, employing an interim analysis, investigates the effects of the Dermamecum protocol, a structured educational and tailored approach that stratifies ostomy patients into risk paths (green, yellow, red) based on pre-operative and post-operative characteristics. The green path indicates a low risk of peristomal skin complications (PSCs), focusing on sustaining healthy behaviours and basic stoma care. The yellow path represents a moderate risk, emphasizing the need for patients to self-monitor and recognize early signs of complications.

The integration of multidisciplinary tumor boards (MTBs) is fundamental in delivering state-of-the-art cancer treatment, facilitating collaborative diagnosis and management by a diverse team of specialists. Despite the clear benefits in personalized patient care and improved outcomes, the increasing burden on MTBs due to rising cancer incidence and financial constraints necessitates innovative solutions. The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical field offers a promising avenue to support clinical decision-making.
