Gastroenterol Hepatol

July 2024

Programa de Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal, Centro de Enfermedades Digestivas, Clínica Universidad de Los Andes, Santiago, Chile; Sección de Gastroenterología, Departamento de Medicina Interna, Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile. Electronic address:

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease being their most common presentations, comprise a spectrum of diverse disease phenotypes, exhibiting variable behaviors ranging from an indolent course to aggressive phenotypes that impact quality of life of these patients. The last two decades have been marked by the development of new medications (biological therapy and novel small molecules) with diverse mechanisms of action, which have revolutionized the management of IBD, thereby enhancing the quality of life for these patients. This landscape of multiple therapeutic options underscores the need to define which medication will benefit each patient the most and at what speed it should be started.

European Registry on Management: Effectiveness of First and Second-Line Treatment in Spain.

Antibiotics (Basel)

December 2020

Gastroenterology Unit, Hospital Universitario de La Princesa, Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Princesa (IIS-IP), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Hepáticas y Digestivas (CIBERehd), 28006 Madrid, Spain.

The management of infection has to rely on previous local effectiveness due to the geographical variability of antibiotic resistance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of first and second-line treatment in Spain, where the empirical prescription is recommended. A multicentre prospective non-interventional registry of the clinical practice of European gastroenterologists concerning infection (Hp-EuReg) was developed, including patients from 2013 until June 2019.

Background: Thiotepa-busulfan-fludarabine (TBF) is a widely used conditioning regimen in single umbilical cord blood transplantation (SUCBT). More recently, it was introduced in the setting of non-T cell depleted haploidentical stem cell transplantation (NTD-Haplo). Whether TBF based conditioning provides additional benefit in transplantation from a particular alternative donor type remains to be established.

Purpose: This work presents a complete and automatic software application to aid radiologists in breast cancer diagnosis. The application is a fully automated method that performs a complete registration of magnetic resonance (MR) images and x-ray (XR) images in both directions (from MR to XR and from XR to MR) and for both x-ray mammograms, craniocaudal (CC), and mediolateral oblique (MLO). This new approximation allows radiologists to mark points in the MR images and, without any manual intervention, it provides their corresponding points in both types of XR mammograms and vice versa.

Background: The remarkable increase that breast-conserving surgery has been experiencing throughout the last decades is as much undeniable as the imposition of the immediate reconstruction as the gold-standard treatment regarding breast reconstruction. Nevertheless, these trends conflict since we do not have a satisfactory immediate reconstruction method for breast-conserving surgery. This work shows the technique we have developed to solve this problem through autologous fat grafting ensuring the same oncological safety.
