Diffusion-weighted MRI is our most promising method for estimating microscopic tissue morphology in vivo. The signal acquisition is based on scanner-generated external magnetic gradients. However, it will also be affected by susceptibility-induced internal magnetic gradients caused by interactions between the tissue and the static magnetic field of the scanner.

General anesthesia (GA) earlier than recommended (as first- or second-line treatment) was recently described to improve status epilepticus (SE) outcome. We aimed to assess the impact of early GA on outcome in matched groups. Data from a multicenter, prospective cohort of 1179 SE episodes in 1049 adults were retrospectively analyzed.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a major public health issue, with a growing prevalence due to the aging population and the rise in risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Managing PAD involves a multidisciplinary approach, with the primary care physician playing a crucial role in early screening. This article compiles the latest data from 2024 and current practices for the management of this disease.

Small renal masses (SRMs), which are tumors less than 4 cm in diameter, are increasingly discovered incidentally due to the rise in diagnostic imaging. Although many of these masses are benign, managing SRMs remains challenging. Active surveillance (AS) offers a viable alternative to surgery, particularly for patients with high surgical risks or limited life expectancy.

Penile cancer is a rare but serious disease, with major consequences for patients' quality of life. Although it accounts for less than 1 % of male cancers in the Western world, its incidence is higher in certain regions of the world. His staging, particularly the evaluation of lymph nodes according to the TNM system, is crucial in determining prognosis and guiding treatment.

Calcification of tissues involves the formation and deposition of calcium-containing crystals in the extracellular matrix (ECM). While this process is normal in bones, it becomes pathological when it occurs in cardiovascular and musculoskeletal soft tissues. Pathological calcification (PC) triggers detrimental pathways such as inflammation and oxidative stress, contributing to tissue damage and dysregulated tissue biomechanics, ultimately leading to severe complications and even death.

: Wound healing is a complex process involving cellular, anatomical, and functional repair, often hindered in chronic wounds associated with diseases like diabetes and vascular disorders. This study investigated the efficacy of conventional and regenerative wound healing approaches in a sheep surgical wound model. : Six female Bergamasca sheep underwent five full-thickness skin lesions treated with various methods: sterile gauze (control), chlorhexidine, sodium hypochlorite, micronized dermis system application, and dermal matrix.

The Albumin-to-Alkaline Phosphatase ratio (AAPR) is an easily applicable and cost-effective marker investigated as an outcome predictor in solid cancers. Preliminary evidence in breast cancer suggests that a low AAPR correlates with a poor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in primary tumors. However, data regarding the axillary response are lacking.

Background: The 2 × 2 PEACE-1 study showed that combining androgen-deprivation therapy with docetaxel and abiraterone improved overall and radiographic progression-free survival in patients with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer. We aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of adding radiotherapy in this population.
Methods: We conducted an open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial with a 2 × 2 factorial design (PEACE-1) at 77 hospitals across Europe.

Background: Trastuzumab emtansine has been recently suspected to be associated with the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Research Question: Is there an association between trastuzumab, trastuzumab emtansine, or trastuzumab deruxtecan and the development of PAH?.
Study Design And Methods: Characteristics of incident PAH cases treated with trastuzumab, trastuzumab emtansine, or trastuzumab deruxtecan were analyzed from the French PH Registry, the VIGIAPATH program, concurrently with a pharmacovigilance disproportionality analysis using the World Health Organization pharmacovigilance database using a broad definition of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and a narrow definition of PAH.

Switzerland already suffers from the long-predicted shortage of physicians. Moreover, the latter often face long and meandering postgraduate training. At the beginning of their career, most doctors work on internal medicine hospital wards, even though their future may just as well lie in an outpatient or inpatient setting, in general internal medicine or in other disciplines.

Sickle cell anemia is the world's most common monogenic disease, with a steady rise in the number of cases also in Switzerland. It presents as regenerative anemia and recurrent vaso-occlusive episodes, which can impact all organs.
