Synchrotron microbeam radiotherapy (MRT), which has entered the clinical transfer phase, requires the development of appropriate quality assurance (QA) tools due to very high dose rates and spatial hyperfractionation. A microstrip plastic scintillating detector system with associated modules was proposed in the context of real-time MRT QA. A prototype of such a system with 105 scintillating microstrips was developed and tested under MRT conditions.

Background: While more and more people tend to use herbal products thinking they are safer than conventional western medicine, the reality is other. If natural products are bio-active and possess potential therapeutic activities, then the benefit/risk balance should be considered like any other health product. Some herbs are known to have the potential to interact with patient's treatment and to cause adverse drug reactions.

Background: Organ injury is a major problem in liver transplant. Prolonged liver ischemia may result in ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), leading to inadequate activation of innate immunity. Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE) of the graft emerges as a more physiologic method for liver preservation compared with static cold storage (SCS) by reducing IRI, which improves the quality of the graft.

Functional exercise testing (FET) assesses an individual's capacity to adapt to effort and identifies limiting factors, particularly dyspnea. It orients therapeutic choices, predicts the progression of chronic pathologies, and estimates preoperative risks, at times contraindicating surgery. The aim of this article is to provide a summary of the specific indications for functional exercise testing, test protocol selection, test equipment, appropriate personnel, and patient and test safety.

Because 20-30% of patients with sepsis deteriorate to critical illness, biomarkers that provide accurate early prognosis may identify which patients need more intensive treatment versus safe early discharge. The objective was to test the performance of sVEGFR2, suPAR and PCT, alone or combined with clinical signs and symptoms, for the prediction of clinical deterioration. This prospective observational study enrolled patients with suspected infection who met SIRS criteria without organ dysfunction (delta SOFA <2 from baseline) from 16 emergency departments.

Background And Purpose: Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT) aims to deliver higher doses to the target while minimizing radiation damage to healthy tissues using synchrotron x-ray microbeams. Translational MRT research has now started, driven by promising results from preclinical studies. This study aimed to propose a first dose-outcome model by analyzing micrometric dose distributions obtained with high-resolution 3D dose calculations, accounting for the inherent physical dose distribution complexity in MRT.

Electronic address:
Objectives: Patients with inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) may require emergency hospital care to prevent life-threatening situations such as metabolic decompensation. To date, over one thousand different rare IMDs have been identified, which means that healthcare professionals (HCPs) initiating emergency treatment may not be familiar with these conditions. The objective of this initiative was to provide HCPs with practical guidance for the acute management of children and adults with IMDs who need emergency care, regardless of the underlying reason.

Introduction: Primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is most often caused by autoantibodies to phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R). M-PLACE (NCT04145440) is an open-label, phase 1b/2a study that assessed the safety and efficacy of the fully human anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody felzartamab in high-risk anti-PLA2R+ PMN.
Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed PMN (cohort 1 [C1]; = 18) or PMN refractory to immunosuppressive therapy (IST) (cohort 2 [C2]; = 13) received 9 infusions of felzartamab 16 mg/kg in the 24-week treatment period, followed by a 28-week follow-up.

In the high-stakes realm of critical care, where daily decisions are crucial and clear communication is paramount, comprehending the rationale behind Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven decisions appears essential. While AI has the potential to improve decision-making, its complexity can hinder comprehension and adherence to its recommendations. "Explainable AI" (XAI) aims to bridge this gap, enhancing confidence among patients and doctors.
