This paper presents a study on the application of magnetic biochars derived from three distinct biomass sources: almond (AMBC), walnut (WMBC), and peanut (PMBC) shells for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of naproxen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, from human saliva prior to LC-MS analysis. The three magnetic biochars were synthesized and characterized through IR, XRD, SEM, and EDX analyses. This work explored the factors influencing extraction efficiency using these three bioadsorbents through experimental design.

To address sustainability issues, the green synthesis of nanomaterials has recently received considerable attention. This article addresses a novel and cost-effective adsorbent for the extraction of eight phenyl-N-methylcarbamate insecticides from water samples. We first synthesized a magnetite/hydroxyapatite nanocomposite using snail shell powder via an environmental friendly approach.

Many antiviral drugs were developed to counteract coronavirus disease, 2019 (COVID-19) with severe acute respiratory syndrome. Therefore, the scientific community's efforts have focused on the detection and quantification of antiviral compounds currently being tested for COVID-19 treatment. Cuttlefish bone powder (CFBP) has been used for the first time as solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbent for the extraction of SARS CoV-2 antiviral drugs (chloroquine, ritonavir and indomethacin) from water samples.

The flesh of the Pinctada radiata pearl oyster from coastal Tunisia is considered as a high source of n-3 and n-6 and its shell nacre layer is a promising osteogenic biomaterial. Fatty acid (FA) analysis showed that the major components found in total FA (TFA) were 14:0, 16:0, and 18:0 saturated FA (SFA); 16:1, 18:1, and 20:1 monoenoic FA; 20:4n-6 (ARA), 22:5n-3 (DPA). Characteristically high levels of 20:5n-3 (EPA) and 22:6n-3 (DHA) (6.

Exact solutions for reflection and emission are compared to different approximations, the surface impedance boundary condition (SIBC) and the geometric optics approximation (GOA). The effects of the incidence angle, the material surfaces, the nature of polarization, and random roughness on the behavior of emissivity and reflectivity have been quantified. The contribution of the effects on the reflection and emission is used to investigate the domains of validity of approximation models.

Hereditary breast cancer accounts for 3-8% of all breast cancers, with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes responsible for up to 30% of these. To investigate the prevalence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations in breast cancer patients with affected relatives in Tunisia, we studied 36 patients who had at least one first degree relative with breast and/or ovarian cancer Thirty-four 34 patients were suggestive of the BRCA1 mutation and two were suggestive of the BRCA2 mutation, based on the presence of male breast cancer detected in their corresponding pedigrees. Four mutations in BRCA1 were detected, including a novel frame-shift mutation (c.

BRCA1 is a tumor suppressor gene which is inactivated by mutation in familial breast and ovarian cancers. Over 300 different disease causing germ-line mutations have been described; 60% are unique to an individual family. This diversity and the large size of the gene lead us to search for a prescreening method for BRCA1 mutations.

The effects of incidence angle, geometrical shape, and optical properties of dielectric rough surfaces on reflectivity and transmissivity are discussed. Radiative properties for various surface geometries are calculated. Since the integral method is computationally expensive, a geometric optics approximation is developed.

Tomato seedlings grown on nitric medium and treated with various cadmium concentrations (0 to 50 microM) were used. Results obtained show that cadmium remains predominantly located in the roots, which then seem to play the role of trap-organs. Increasing cadmium concentration in the medium leads particularly to a decrease in NO3- accumulation, together with a decrease in the activity of glutamine synthetase and in the quantity of plastidic isoform ARNm (GS2), and, on the contrary, to an increase of the cytosolic isoform ARNm (GS1).
