Background: Sink drains in hospitals are notorious reservoirs of bacteria, hosting both planktonic micro-organisms and biofilms within the siphon. Disinfectants based on peracetic acid are both non-corrosive and effective in eliminating biofilm and planktonic micro-organisms, presenting a potential solution for decontaminating sink drains.
Aim: To examine the effectiveness of Clinell Drain Disinfectant, a peracetic-acid-based disinfectant, in the intensive care unit (ICU) of UZ Brussel.

Introduction: During the last decade, the complementary value of real-world data (through registries or medical records) and data from randomized clinical trials has been recognized as increasingly important. In the field of neuromodulation, only a few industry-independent nationwide neuromodulation registries are available. The interest in creating a European registry has increased but without a successful result.

To analyze whether combinations of polymorphisms within FSHR gene influence ovarian response (OR) to stimulation. A multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted from 11/2016-06/2019 in Europe and Asia including predicted normo-responders under 38y. Patients underwent ovarian stimulation using fixed-dose 150 IU rFSH in a GnRH antagonist protocol.

Importance: A multicenter randomized clinical trial (RCT) showed a lung recruitment maneuver using high-frequency oscillatory ventilation just before surfactant administration (ie, intubate-recruit-surfactant-extubate [IN-REC-SUR-E]) improved the efficacy of treatment compared with the standard intubate-surfactant-extubate (IN-SUR-E) technique without increasing the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes.
Objective: To examine follow-up outcomes at corrected postnatal age (cPNA) 2 years of preterm infants previously enrolled in an RCT and treated with IN-REC-SUR-E or IN-SUR-E in 35 tertiary neonatal intensive care units.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a follow-up study of infants recruited into the primary RCT from 2015 to 2018 at 35 tertiary neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Italy.

infection is often acquired in early childhood. While most infected children remain asymptomatic, can cause chronic gastritis, gastric ulceration, and, in the long term, gastric cancer. This article aimed to review different diagnostic and treatment options and discuss the challenges associated with applying the current guidelines in the real world.

Clonal MAPK-pathway activating mutations in the gene are present in approximately 9% of cutaneous melanomas. These mutations are divided into three classes: RAF-dependent, RAF-regulated, RAF-independent. Cell lines with class-2 or RAF-regulated -mutations are most responsive to MEK-inhibitors.

Background: Alterations in regional brain microcirculation have not been well studied in patients with sepsis. Regional brain microcirculation can be studied using contrast-enhanced brain ultrasound (CEUS) with microbubble administration.
Methods: CEUS was used to assess alterations in regional brain microcirculation on 3 consecutive days in 58 patients with sepsis and within 24 h of intensive care unit admission in 10 aged-matched nonseptic postoperative patients.

The incidence of Legionnaires' disease (LD) is increasing steadily in Europe. Its early diagnosis by general practitioners (GPs) is crucial for better patient outcomes. This study assessed Belgian GPs' knowledge about LD and the accessibility of diagnostic tests in their practices.

Introduction: Intraoperative fluorescence guidance is a well-established surgical adjunct in high-grade glioma surgery. In contrast, the clinical use of such dyes and technology has been scarcely reported in skull base surgery.
Research Question: We aimed to systematically review the clinical applications of different fluorophores in both open and endonasal skull base surgery.

Women diagnosed with gynecological cancer are likely to face additional consequences beyond those common to all cancer patients leading to significant physical and psychological morbidity. Longitudinal studies addressing the prevalence of psychological distress, anxiety, or psychosexual health during follow-up in patients diagnosed with borderline ovarian tumors are lacking. This study explores this prevalence compared with controls who underwent comparable surgical treatment for benign ovarian tumors.

Background: Patellar instability is a well-known pathology in which kinematics can be investigated using metrics such as tibial tuberosity tracheal groove (TTTG), the bisect offset (BO), and the lateral patellar tilt (LPT). We used dynamic computed tomography (CT) to investigate the patellar motion of healthy subjects in weight-bearing conditions to provide normative values for TTTG, BO, and LPT, as well as to define whether BO and LPT are affected by the morphology of the trochlear groove.
Methods: Dynamic scanning was used to acquire images during weight-bearing in 21 adult healthy volunteers.

Background: Pain is prevalent among children and adolescents. The development and implementation of Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) strategies tailored to this population remains overlooked in contrast to the adult population.
Objective: This study sought to identify the content, delivery methods, and dosage of PNE for children and adolescents available in the literature.

Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) is a rare type of auto-immune myositis, characterized by symmetric muscle pain, proximal weakness, elevated serum CK levels and pathologic findings of necrotized muscle fibers. IMNM may be seronegative, associated with anti-signal recognition particle (SRP) antibodies or anti-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) antibodies, the last widely related with statin use. This last entity affects only 2 to 3 of 100,000 patients under statins.

Background: Major hepatectomy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) patients with a small future liver remnant (FLR) risks posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). This study examines combined portal and hepatic vein embolisation (PVE/HVE) to increase preoperative FLR volume and potentially decrease PHLF rates.
Methods: In this retrospective, multicentre, observational study, data was collected from centres affiliated with the DRAGON Trials Collaborative and the EuroLVD registry.

: To investigate if intra-articular biomarkers relate to peripheral and central sensitization in patients with late-stage knee osteoarthritis (KOA). : A total of 17 (6M, 11F) patients (aged 69 ± 10 years) were assessed for peripheral (pressure pain thresholds (PPT)) and central (temporal summation (TS) and conditioned pain modulation (CPM)) sensitization the day before total knee arthroplasty. Synovial fluid was collected during surgery and assayed for IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, TNF-α, CXCL-10, BDNF, NGF, CCL2, CCL5, VEGF, IL-1RI, MMP-1, MMP-7, IL-1β, and CXCL-9.

Ranolazine is an anti-anginal medication that has demonstrated antiarrhythmic properties by inhibiting both late sodium and potassium currents. Studies have shown promising results for ranolazine in treating both atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias, particularly when used in combination with other medications. This review explores ranolazine's mechanisms of action and its potential role in cardiac arrhythmias treatment in light of previous clinical studies.

Recently, we showed that three months of resistance exercise significantly alters 18 canonical pathways related to chronic inflammation in PBMCs of older adults. In this exploratory sub-study, the aim is to explore whether resistance exercise enhances the PBMCs stress response by mimicking an acute infection through in vitro LPS stimulation. Women (≥65 years) were randomly divided into intensive strength training (IST), strength endurance training (SET), or flexibility training (as control group, CON) groups.
