Dengue, commonly referred to as 'breakbone fever,' is a mosquito-borne arboviral infection transmitted by , featuring an average incubation period of approximately seven days. Key cytokines such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interleukin (IL)-10 are pivotal in the pathogenesis of dengue. Travelers are particularly susceptible to contracting dengue fever, with disease severity often associated with CD8+ T cell response.

This in vitro study was carried out to compare the cutting efficiency of diamond grinders on zirconia and resin-based composite materials. Grinders were employed with a special holder for the handpiece to apply a constant load (160 g) for resin-based composite (8 cuts, 40 s each) and zirconia materials (4 cuts, 5 min each; n = 10 for each material and grinder). To assess the efficiency of the grinders, weight measurements of the material were taken before and after the grinding process.

Mitochondria play a crucial role in maintaining Ca homeostasis in cells. Due to the critical regulatory role of the products of oxidative and non-oxidative metabolism of L-arginine, it is essential to clarify their effect on Ca transport in smooth muscle mitochondria. Experiments were performed on the uterine myocytes of rats and isolated mitochondria.

RA typically affects people between the ages of 35 and 60; however, it can also afflict children younger than the age of 16 years and can also demonstrate a pattern of remission later in the disease course. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids, exercise, and patient education are all used in the management of RA, which is divided into symptomatic management and disease-modifying management (disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs) to reduce pain and inflammation, thereby preserving joint function.

Background: Micro- and macrovascular diseases are common in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and may be partly caused by nocturnal hypoxemia. The study aimed to characterize the composition of nocturnal hypoxemic burden and to assess its association with micro- and macrovascular disease in patients with T2D.
Methods: This cross-sectional analysis includes overnight oximetry from 1247 patients with T2D enrolled in the DIACORE (DIAbetes COhoRtE) study.

Lipid composition is conserved within sub-cellular compartments to maintain cell function. Lipidomic analyses of liver, muscle, white and brown adipose tissue (BAT) mitochondria revealed substantial differences in their glycerophospholipid (GPL) and free cholesterol (FC) contents. The GPL to FC ratio was 50-fold higher in brown than white adipose tissue mitochondria.

Background: The increasing prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) incurs substantial morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. Detection and clinical intervention at early stages of disease improves prognosis; however, we are currently limited by a lack of reliable diagnostic tests for population screening and monitoring responses to therapy. To address this unmet need, we investigated human invariant Natural Killer T cell (iNKT) activation by fat-loaded hepatocytes, leading to the discovery that circulating soluble CD46 (sCD46) levels accurately predict hepatic steatosis.

Background: Prevention of toilet-to-patient transmission of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR PA) poses management-related challenges at many bone marrow transplant units (BMTUs).
Aim: To conduct a longitudinal retrospective analysis of the toilet-to-patient transmission rate for MDR PA under existing infection control (IC) measures at a BMTU with persistent MDR PA toilet colonization.
Methods: The local IC bundle comprised: (1) patient education regarding IC; (2) routine patient screening; (3) toilet flushing volume of 9 L; (4) bromination of toilet water tanks, and (5) toilet decontamination using hydrogen peroxide.

TSPO ligands are promising alternatives to benzodiazepines in the treatment of anxiety, as they display less pronounced side effects such as sedation, cognitive impairment, tolerance development and abuse potential. In a randomized double-blind repeated-measures study we compare a benzodiazepine (alprazolam) to a TSPO ligand (etifoxine) by assessing side effects and acquiring resting-state fMRI data from 34 healthy participants after 5 days of taking alprazolam, etifoxine or a placebo. To study the effects of the pharmacological interventions in fMRI in detail and across different scales, we combine in our study complementary analysis strategies related to whole-brain functional network connectivity, local connectivity analysis expressed in regional homogeneity, fluctuations in low-frequency BOLD amplitudes and coherency of independent resting-state networks.

Background: Breast lipofilling, a popular cosmetic and reconstructive procedure, involves the transplantation of autologous fat to enhance breast volume and contour. Despite its widespread use, cell processing and the aftertreatment remain controversial. This study investigates the pressure applied by a compression bra and reports in vitro stress tests of processed and unprocessed fat cells.

Materials And Methods: Phase states of aqueous glycerol and DMSO solutions within temperature range +25 to -150 degree С were studied using method of volumetric scanning tensodilatometry. Temperatures below which hydrogen bonds significantly affect crystallization-melting kinetics of such solutions were determined.

Purpose: Anterior arch length (AL) and the alterations in its dimension following incisor movements were shown to be predictable for an individual patient using a mathematical-geometrical model based on a third-degree parabola. Although the model has been validated previously, it is hard to apply in daily orthodontic routine. Thus, the aim of this study was to modify the model using different approaches to allow its establishment in daily routine.

Background: Knee joint injuries are a regular and serious injury in football, often resulting in a long period of absence for players and are, therefore, a significant disadvantage for clubs. The various structures of the knee joint, such as ligaments, meniscus or cartilage, are exposed to the risk of injury due to different sport-specific situations in football and require different and specific therapeutic approaches for their adequate healing.
Treatment: Both surgical and conservative treatment measures have been well investigated scientifically, especially for knee joint injuries in football, so that a successful and sustainable return to play on field is highly possible.

Cryopreservation of spheroids requires development of new improved methods. The plasma membranes permeability coefficients for water and cryoprotectants determine time characteristics of mass transfer through the cell membranes, and therefore the optimal modes of cells cryopreservation. Here we proposed an approach to cryopreservation of multicellular spheroids which considers their generalized characteristics as analogues of the membranes' permeability coefficients of the individual cells.

Background: The pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1 plays an important role in severe COVID-19. A change in IL-1 production may be associated with a mutation in the IL1Β gene. Our study analyzed the impact of the IL1Β gene variants (rs1143634) on disease progression in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia, taking into account treatment strategies.
