Pediatric Neurosurgery, University Medical Center Göttingen, Gottingen, Germany.

Introduction: The TROPHY registry has been established to conduct an international multicenter prospective data collection on the surgical management of neonatal intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH)-related hydrocephalus to possibly contribute to future guidelines. The registry allows comparing the techniques established to treat hydrocephalus, such as external ventricular drainage (EVD), ventricular access device (VAD), ventricular subgaleal shunt (VSGS), and neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL). This first status report of the registry presents the results of the standard of care survey of participating centers assessed upon online registration.

Molecular Landscapes and Models of Acute Erythroleukemia.

Hemasphere

May 2021

University Children's Hospital beider Basel (UKBB), Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland.

Malignancies of the erythroid lineage are rare but aggressive diseases. Notably, the first insights into their biology emerged over half a century ago from avian and murine tumor viruses-induced erythroleukemia models providing the rationale for several transgenic mouse models that unraveled the transforming potential of signaling effectors and transcription factors in the erythroid lineage. More recently, genetic roadmaps have fueled efforts to establish models that are based on the epigenomic lesions observed in patients with erythroid malignancies.

Early recognition or screening of dementia in general practice General practitioners play a key role in timely dementia diagnosis. In view that there are currently no drugs to prevent the progression of dementia or are effective in patients with mild cognitive impairment, a general screening of older people to recognize pre-symptomatic stages of dementia is not recommended. Crucial for a timely diagnosis is the GP's perception of warning signs, so-called "red flags".

Aims: The Centor criteria and the FeverPAIN score are recommended for guiding antibiotic prescription for tonsillitis, but they are not validated for this purpose. We aimed to identify risk factors for peritonsillar abscess in group A haemolytic streptococcus-negative tonsillitis and to test the performance of clinical scores and laboratory tests.

Methods: In a retrospective case-control study at two regional hospitals from January 2015 to June 2018, we identified all cases of peritonsillar abscess and used propensity score matching utilising age and gender to select two controls per case from all patients who had a rapid group A haemolytic streptococcus antigen test in the emergency department.

Children and adults with rheumatic diseases (RD) have a higher risk to contract infections due to the underlying disease and the frequently necessary immunosuppressive treatment (IT). The quality of life of the majority of patients with RD has remarkably improved due to IT-related reduction of inflammation. Therefore, RD patients usually have an international travel behavior similar to healthy individuals.
