Objective: In this multicentric study, we were interested in the vision-related quality of life and its association with visual impairment in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) in comparison to multiple sclerosis (MS) and healthy controls.
Methods: We analysed extracted data from the German NEMOS registry including National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ) scores, high and low contrast visual acuity (HCVA, LCVA), visually evoked potentials (VEP) and the scores for the expanded disability status scale (EDSS) and other neurological tests which assessed their disease-related impairment. Poly(butylene succinate-co-adipate) (PBSA), a biodegradable plastic, is significantly colonized and degraded by soil microbes under natural field conditions, especially by fungal plant pathogens, raising concerns about potential economic losses. This study hypothesizes that the degradation of biodegradable plastics may increase the presence and abundance of plant pathogens by serving as an additional carbon source, ultimately posing a risk to forest ecosystems. We investigated (i) fungal plant pathogens during the exposure of PBSA in European broadleaved and coniferous forests (two forest types), with a specific focus on potential risk to tree health, and (ii) the response of such fungi to environmental factors, including tree species, soil pH, nutrient availability, moisture content, and the physicochemical properties of leaf litter layer.

The formyl-peptide receptor 2 (FPR2) is a G-protein-coupled receptor that responds to pathogen-derived peptides and regulates both proinflammatory and proresolution cellular processes. While ligand selectivity and G-protein signaling of FPR2 have been well characterized, molecular mechanisms controlling subsequent events such as endocytosis and recycling to the plasma membrane are less understood. Here, we show the key role of the G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5) in facilitating FPR2 endocytosis and postendocytic trafficking.

We are presenting an easy synthetic access to the aqueous synthesis of truncated trigonal silver nanobipyramids with tunable width and height in a facile two step synthesis. We modified a synthesis that employs seed particles with twinning faults on which silver is deposited laterally along the twinning fault, leading to flat particles. The ratio of lateral and vertical growth is adjusted by the co-titration of further noble metal salts at nanomolar concentrations alongside the silver precursor.

Fabry disease (FD, OMIM #301500) is a rare metabolic disorder, X-linked glycosphingolipidosis that is characterized by pathogenic mutations in the GLA (Galactosidase Alpha) gene (OMIM *300644) that result in reduced α-galactosidase A (α-GAL) activity and accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) in tissues and organs. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were used to generate human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC). UKJi004-A was produced from a healthy donor, whereas UKJi003-A was produced from a patient who had FD with GLA-mutation (IVS6-10G>A).

Debates on both a common origin for these pathogens and the history of syphilis itself has weighed evidence for the "Columbian hypothesis", which argues for an American origin, against that for the "pre-Columbian hypothesis", which argues for presence of the disease in Eurasia in the Medieval period and possibly earlier. While molecular data has provided a genetic basis for distinction of the typed subspecies, deep evolution of the complex has remained unresolved due to limitations in the conclusions that can be drawn from the sparse paleogenomic data currently available.

Inhibiting microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1), an inducible enzyme involved in prostaglandin E (PGE) biosynthesis and tumor microenvironment (TME) homeostasis, is a valuable strategy for treating inflammation and cancer. In this work, 5-methylcarboxamidepyrrole-based molecules were designed and synthesized as new compounds targeting mPGES-1. Remarkably, compounds 1f, 2b, 2c, and 2d were able to significantly reduce the activity of the isolated enzyme, showing IC values in the low micromolar range.
