Graphene-based materials (GBM) are promising cementitious composite additives that can significantly improve the mechanical characteristics and durability of concrete due to their unique properties, such as high surface area and aspect ratio and excellent tensile strength, to name a few. To display their full potential, GBM have to be homogeneously dispersed into the aqueous environment of cement-based matrices. The present study addresses the issue of limited dispersibility in the aqueous media of GBM through the chemical functionalization of mono- and few-layer graphene structures with hydrophilic aryl sulfonate groups and shows that a series of mortar samples containing modified GBM exhibit increased flexural and compressive strength by up to 17% and 30%, respectively, compared to mortar references without additives.

We discuss the derivation of the electrodynamics of superconductors coupled to the electromagnetic field from a Lorentz-invariant bosonic model of Cooper pairs. Our results are obtained at zero temperature where, according to the third law of thermodynamics, the entropy of the system is zero. In the nonrelativistic limit, we obtain a Galilei-invariant superconducting system, which differs with respect to the familiar Schrödinger-like one.

The excited states of unstable ^{20}O were investigated via γ-ray spectroscopy following the ^{19}O(d,p)^{20}O reaction at 8  AMeV. By exploiting the Doppler shift attenuation method, the lifetimes of the 2_{2}^{+} and 3_{1}^{+} states were firmly established. From the γ-ray branching and E2/M1 mixing ratios for transitions deexciting the 2_{2}^{+} and 3_{1}^{+} states, the B(E2) and B(M1) were determined.

Gastrointestinal manifestations are common across all hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) genotypes. However, they are poorly specific, and their recognition as part of ATTRv is difficult, resulting in misdiagnosis with more common conditions. Intrinsic Limits on the Detection of the Anisotropies of the Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background.

For any given network of detectors, and for any given integration time, even in the idealized limit of negligible instrumental noise, the intrinsic time variation of the isotropic component of the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) induces a limit on how accurately the anisotropies in the SGWB can be measured. We show here how this sample limit can be calculated and apply this to three separate configurations of ground-based detectors placed at existing and planned sites. Our results show that in the idealized, best-case scenario, individual multipoles of the anisotropies at ℓ≤8 can only be measured to ∼10^{-5}-10^{-4} level over five years of observation as a fraction of the isotropic component.
