The term developmental trauma (DT) refers to the impact of stressful events which occur cumulatively within the child's relevant relationships and contexts, and usually early in life. According to several authors, DT depends on the caregiver's inadequate intersubjective recognition of one or more aspects of the evolving individual's identity. In the clinical and empirical literature, the study of therapists' developmental trauma, and how it might constitute a relevant variable in the clinical exchange, seem to be underrepresented.

Neuroblastoma is the most recurring cancer in childhood and adolescence. The SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line is generally adopted for elaborating new therapeutical approaches and/or elaborating strategies for the prevention of central nervous system disturbances. In fact, it represents a valid model system for investigating in vitro the effects on the brain of X-ray exposure using vibrational spectroscopies that can detect early radiation-induced molecular alterations of potential clinical usefulness.

Background: The efficacy of benralizumab has been broadly demonstrated in severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA), but only few real-life studies evaluated its long-term effects. Here we present novel data from the ANANKE study in which a large cohort of SEA patients was treated for up to 96 weeks.

Methods: ANANKE (NCT04272463) is an observational retrospective Italian study investigating the key characteristics of SEA patients (collected during the 12 months prior to benralizumab initiation) and the clinical outcomes during benralizumab treatment (annual exacerbation rate [AER], lung function, asthma control, OCS use, healthcare resource utilization).

The mechanisms underlying sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients with ischaemic heart disease (IHD) caused by coronary atherosclerosis are not yet clarified. For decades, acute coronary causes have been sought as the main triggers of SCD in these patients. In fact, angiographic and pathological studies in cardiac arrest survivors and SCD victims, respectively, consistently show that acute plaque events occur in ∼50% of SCD of patients with IHD.

Objectives: to describe the importance given to vaccination as a preventive measure in the clinical pathways (CPWs) of patients affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma in the Italian regional healthcare services.

Design: a comparative analysis was conducted to assess the presence/absence of vaccination recommendations among the available regional CPWs for the management of COPD and asthma.

Setting And Participants: all the regional CPWs for COPD and asthma available in the "Fondazione ReS" database between 2008 and 2019 have been analysed.

Medieval southern Italy is typically viewed as a region where political, religious, and cultural systems coexisted and clashed. Written sources often focus on elites and give an image of a hierarchical feudal society supported by a farming economy. We undertook an interdisciplinary study combining historical and archaeological evidence with Bayesian modelling of multi-isotope data from human (n = 134) and faunal (n = 21) skeletal remains to inform on the socioeconomic organisation, cultural practices, and demographics of medieval communities in Capitanata (southern Italy).

Background: Despite the robust evidence of an excess risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity and mortality in ever smokers, the debate on the role of current and ex-smokers on COVID-19 progression remains open. Limited or no data are available on the link between electronic cigarette (e-cigarette), heated tobacco product (HTP) and second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure and COVID-19 progression. To fill this knowledge gap, we undertook the COvid19 and SMOking in ITaly (COSMO-IT) study.

Article Synopsis
  • Husk scald (HS) is a physiological disorder affecting the marketability of pomegranates during storage, believed to be triggered by water loss and regulated by abscisic acid (ABA) signaling.
  • Pomegranate fruits stored at different temperatures showed that HS developed significantly at 11°C after 3 months, linked to higher weight loss, respiration rate, and ABA levels, while storage at 3.5°C minimized these effects.
  • The study proposes a mechanism where water stress leads to increased ABA, resulting in oxidative stress and degradation of phenolics, which causes visible browning due to the accumulation of brown pigments.

Quality of Goji Berry Fruit ( L.) Stored at Different Temperatures.

Foods

November 2022

Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie, degli Alimenti e dell'Ambiente, Università di Foggia, Via Napoli 25, 71122 Foggia, Italy.

Goji berries are widely known for their outstanding nutritional and medicinal properties; they are usually found in the market as dried fruit or as juice because the fruit has a short shelf-life, and little information is available about its postharvest behavior at low temperatures. This study aimed to determine the storage performance of goji berry fruit by evaluating physicochemical, and sensorial attributes during storage at three different temperatures (0, 5, and 7 °C) for 12 days in a range that has not been extensively studied before. In addition, fruit respiration and ethylene production rates were also measured at the three temperatures.

Purpose: Benralizumab effectively reduces severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) exacerbations in patients with a wide range of baseline blood eosinophil count (BEC). Patients included in real-world studies are often characterized by high mean/median BEC, while patients with BEC close to 300 cells/mm are poorly represented. This post hoc analysis from the Italian study ANANKE aims to define the clinical features and corroborate the efficacy of benralizumab in real world in the BEC 300-450 cells/mm subset of patients.

Background: Severe asthma is a heterogeneous inflammatory disease driven by eosinophilic inflammation in the majority of cases. Despite biologic therapy patients may still be sub-optimally controlled, and the choice of the best biologic is a matter of debate. Indeed, switching between biologics is common, but no official guidelines are available and real-world data are limited.

Objectives: The need for concomitant tricuspid surgery in patients who need mitral valve surgery casts doubt on its feasibility via a minimally invasive approach. Our goal was to evaluate the short-term outcomes of patients undergoing concomitant mitral and tricuspid valve surgery either with a standard full sternotomy (full-MTS) or a minimally invasive approach (mini-MTS).

Methods: The outcomes of patients who had combined mitral and tricuspid valve surgery in 11 centres were retrospectively evaluated.
