Purpose: This systematic review with meta-analysis evaluates the long-term efficacy of matrix-assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) in terms of functional scores using scaffolds made of hyaluronic acid (HA) or collagen (C).
Methods: Nineteen articles met the eligibility criteria for the analysis. Fourteen studies focused on patients treated with MACT with HA-based scaffolds, four studies with C-based scaffolds, and one study compared both scaffold types.

In particular, synthetic ECG signals can be beneficial for understanding cardiac electrical activity, developing large and heterogeneous unbiased datasets, and anonymizing data to favour knowledge sharing and open science. In the present scoping review, various methodologies to generate synthetic ECG data have been thoroughly analysed, highlighting their limitations and possibilities.

Aims: It is widely recognized that the COVID-19 pandemic exerted an impact on the mental health of the general population, but epidemiological evidence is surprisingly sparse. We aimed to explore the association between serologically confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and psychological distress - assessed by symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress - in the general adult population in southern Switzerland, a region widely affected by the pandemic. We also investigated whether this association varied over time and between pandemic waves from late 2020 through 2021.

Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RSTS) is a rare autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorder linked to haploinsufficiency of CREBBP (RSTS1) and EP300 (RSTS2) genes. Characteristic features often include distinctive facial traits, broad thumbs and toes, short stature, and various degrees of intellectual disability. The clinical presentation of RSTS is notably variable, making it challenging to establish a clear genotype-phenotype correlation, except for specific variants which cause the allelic Menke-Hennekam syndrome.

Background: Elevated phenylalanine serum level is a surrogate marker of whole-body proteolysis and has been associated with increased mortality in critically ill patients. Tyrosine is a metabolite of phenylalanine and serves as a precursor of thyroid hormones and catecholamines with important functions in the oxidative stress response among others. Herein, we examined the prognostic significance of phenylalanine, tyrosine, as well as its metabolites nitrotyrosine, L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA), and dopamine regarding clinical outcomes and response to nutritional therapy in patients at nutritional risk.

The Albumin-to-Alkaline Phosphatase ratio (AAPR) is an easily applicable and cost-effective marker investigated as an outcome predictor in solid cancers. Preliminary evidence in breast cancer suggests that a low AAPR correlates with a poor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in primary tumors. We present the case of a 60-year-old male with recurrent atypical meningioma in the right parietal lobe, previously treated with surgery and radiation therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed 5 years after radiation therapy suggested a possible recurrence. A somatostatin receptor positron emission tomography/computed tomography (SR-PET/CT) scan with Gallium-68 DOTATATE was performed to confirm this suspicion.

Malignant pleural effusion is the presence of malignant cells within the pleural fluid, representing the second most common cause of pleural exudate. Although diagnostic methods and management techniques for malignant pleural effusion have dramatically improved over the decades, the current treatment is still palliative, aiming to remove pleural fluid, possibly prevent its recurrence, and alleviate symptoms through a wide range of available procedures. Treatment should be tailored to the individual patient, considering comorbidities, size of the effusion, rate of fluid accumulation, underlying cardiac or respiratory conditions, rate of recurrence, presence of loculations or trapped lung, tumor characteristics, cancer type, and patient preferences.

The diagnosis of ascending aortic aneurysm, its precise assessment criteria and indications for surgery represent a chapter of great stimulus and interest for the clinical cardiologist. There are many factors influencing the classification of patients, but it is the contemporary evolution of knowledge in this field that contributes to a more global view of the aorta. The approach is increasingly multidisciplinary, both in clinical and genetic terms, and multimodal imaging is a crucial support for therapeutic decisions and monitoring.

Unlocking the potential of broadly reactive coronavirus monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and their derivatives offers a transformative therapeutic avenue against severe COVID-19, especially crucial for safeguarding high-risk populations. Novel mAb-based immunotherapies may help address the reduced efficacy of current vaccines and neutralizing mAbs caused by the emergence of variants of concern (VOCs). Using phage display technology, we discovered a pan-SARS-CoV-2 mAb (C10) that targets a conserved region within the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the virus.

Background And Objectives: The benefit of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with basilar artery occlusion (BAO) and a baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score <10 is unclear because this subpopulation has been substantially excluded from large clinical trials. The aim of our study was to determine whether MT ± IV thrombolysis (IVT) improves functional outcomes compared with IVT alone in patients with BAO and a NIHSS score <10.
Methods: We emulated a hypothetical trial including adult patients with BAO, a baseline NIHSS score <10, and prestroke modified Rankin scale (mRS) scores 0-2, comparing MT (±IVT) with IVT alone.
