Since the early 1990s, the introduction of biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (b-DMARDs) in managing rheumatological diseases has revolutionised the course of inflammatory chronic arthritis, improving the quality of life, slowing the radiographic progression, avoiding disability, preserving workability, and reducing mortality [...

Background: Extensive myocardial edema is a key feature of acute takotsubo syndrome (TTS) and it can be quantitatively assessed by T2 mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Clinical correlates of myocardial edema in TTS are not well characterized.
Methods: Sixty patients with acute TTS underwent CMR with T2 mapping within one week of hospitalization.

The pathological process of prion diseases implicates that the normal physiological cellular prion protein (PrP) converts into misfolded abnormal scrapie prion (PrP) through post-translational modifications that increase β-sheet conformation. We recently demonstrated that HuPrP(90-231) thermal unfolding is partially irreversible and characterized by an intermediate state (β-PrPI), which has been revealed to be involved in the initial stages of PrP fibrillation, with a seeding activity comparable to that of human infectious prions. In this study, we report the thermal unfolding characterization, in cell-mimicking conditions, of the truncated (HuPrP(90-231)) and full-length (HuPrP(23-231)) human prion protein by means of CD and NMR spectroscopy, revealing that HuPrP(90-231) thermal unfolding is characterized by two successive transitions, as in buffer solution.

The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of semi-inclusive distributions of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum (high p_{T}) hadron trigger in proton-proton and central Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. A data-driven statistical method is used to mitigate the large uncorrelated background in central Pb-Pb collisions.

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the concentration of N-terminal type I collagen extension pro-peptide (PINP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAcP), and parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) in saliva during orthodontic treatment in order to evaluate whether changes in bone turnover marker (BTM) concentration can help highlight the effects of orthodontic mechanical loading in the absence of clinical evidence of tooth movement in terms of tooth movement. Saliva samples from 25 apparently healthy young subjects (10 females and 15 males) were collected using Salivette (Sarstedt) with cotton swabs and the concentrations of PTHrP, TRAcP 5b, and PINP were analyzed at time 0 (T1), 25 days (T2), and at 45 days (T3). Differences in the median value of biomarker levels between baseline T1 and follow-up of the different groups (T2 and T3) were assessed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination represents a milestone in primary prevention of sexually transmitted infections. However, little is known about its possible effects on already established HPV infections. We report the case of a 9-year-old immunosuppressed girl with refractory warts, successfully treated with the nonavalent-HPV vaccine and review the literature about the therapeutic effects of HPV vaccination on benign HPV-induced epithelial proliferations in immunocompetent and immunosuppressed patients.

K^{+}K^{-} pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced ϕ(1020) mesons or directly as nonresonant K^{+}K^{-} pairs. Measurements of K^{+}K^{-} photoproduction probe the couplings between the ϕ(1020) and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere.

O'Donnell-Luria-Rodan (ODLURO) syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in the gene. The clinical phonotype of the affected individuals is typically characterized by global developmental delay, autism, epilepsy, hypotonia, macrocephaly, and very mild dysmorphic facial features. In this report, we describe the case of a 6-year-old boy with ODLURO syndrome who is a carrier of the synonymous mutation c.

High salt intake and compliance to low-sodium (LS) diets are critical in hypertension. Salt reduction in processed foods can help to achieve the target sodium intake. To verify the hypothesis that an innovative LS formulation of a traditional bread could result in a reduction of sodium intake and blood pressure, we performed a 6-month randomized controlled pilot trial on hypertensive patients.

The production of the ψ(2S) charmonium state was measured with ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, in the dimuon decay channel. A significant signal was observed for the first time at LHC energies down to zero transverse momentum, at forward rapidity (2.

This paper studies the influence of temperature and of rainfall intensity and the effect of such variations on the treatment efficiencies and on the electrical consumptions in seven medium-large size Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) in Apulia in South Italy (Bari, Barletta, Brindisi, Lecce, Foggia, Andria and Taranto). It has been observed, in the considered WWTPs, a slight but clear increase of the incoming flow due to the increase in rainfall intensity, which results to an increase of the energy consumption per incoming volume. The impact of the climate change to the incoming flow, during the last five years (2016-2020), has been assessed indicating that an increase in rainfall intensity results to an increase of the WWTPs energy consumptions per wastewater treated volume.

Background: It is uncertain whether individualisation of the perioperative open-lung approach (OLA) to ventilation reduces postoperative pulmonary complications in patients undergoing lung resection. We compared a perioperative individualised OLA (iOLA) ventilation strategy with standard lung-protective ventilation in patients undergoing thoracic surgery with one-lung ventilation.
Methods: This multicentre, randomised controlled trial enrolled patients scheduled for open or video-assisted thoracic surgery using one-lung ventilation in 25 participating hospitals in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, and Ecuador.

The FOXP subfamily includes four different transcription factors: FOXP1, FOXP2, FOXP3, and FOXP4, all with important roles in regulating gene expression from early development through adulthood. Haploinsufficiency of , due to deleterious variants (point mutations, copy number variants) disrupting the gene, leads to an emerging disorder known as " syndrome", mainly characterized by intellectual disability, language impairment, dysmorphic features, and multiple congenital abnormalities with or without autistic features in some affected individuals (MIM 613670). Here we describe a 10-year-old female patient, born to unrelated parents, showing hypotonia, intellectual disability, and severe language delay.

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are complex and heterogeneous diseases. The use of traditional diagnostic classification in ILD can lead to suboptimal management, which is worsened by not considering the molecular pathways, biological complexity, and disease phenotypes. The identification of specific "treatable traits" in ILDs, which are clinically relevant and modifiable disease characteristics, may improve patient's outcomes.

The emergence of the novel coronavirus and the pandemic resulting from its spread have led to significant negative impacts on health, economy, relationships, and others. Particularly in the field of hospital care, the need for a greater number of patients has led to a breakdown of the system. Gastrointestinal manifestations are common in SARS-COV 2 patients, while 10% of those who are sick exhibit symptoms only from gastrointestinal without any manifestation on the part of the respiratory tract.
