Purpose: This systematic review of randomized-controlled trials (RCTs) with meta-analyses aimed to compare the effects on intraoperative arterial oxygen tension to inspired oxygen fraction ratio (PaO/FiO), exerted by positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) individualized trough electrical impedance tomography (EIT) or esophageal pressure (Pes) assessment (intervention) vs. PEEP not tailored on EIT or Pes (control), in patients undergoing abdominal or pelvic surgery with an open or laparoscopic/robotic approach.
Methods: PUBMED®, EMBASE®, and Cochrane Controlled Clinical trials register were searched for observational studies and RCTs from inception to the end of August 2022.

The Bcl-2-associated athanogene 3 (BAG3) protein plays multiple roles in controlling cellular homeostasis, and it has been reported to be deregulated in many cancers, leading tumor cell apoptosis escape. BAG3 protein is then an emerging target for its oncogenic activities in both leukemia and solid cancers, such as medulloblastoma. In this work a series of forty-four compounds were designed and successfully synthesized by the modification and optimization of a previously reported 2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative 28.

We investigated the basis for better performance of transgenic Nicotiana tabacum plants with G6PDH-isoenzyme replacement in the cytosol (Xanthi::cP2::cytRNAi, Scharte et al., 2009). After six generations of selfing, infiltration of Phytophthora nicotianae zoospores into source leaves confirmed that defence responses (ROS, callose) are accelerated, showing as fast cell death of the infected tissue.

Because the composition of body fluids reflects many physiological and pathological dynamics, biological liquid samples are commonly obtained in many experimental contexts to measure molecules of interest, such as hormones, growth factors, proteins, or small non-coding RNAs. A specific example is the sampling of biological liquids in the research of biomarkers for epilepsy. In these studies, it is desirable to compare the levels of molecules in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and in plasma, by withdrawing CSF and plasma in parallel and considering the time distance of the sampling from and to seizures.

The earliest evidence of bifaces in western Europe is dated to the initial phase of the Middle Pleistocene (la Noira, Notarchirico, Moulin Quignon, 700-670 ka), with the findings of Barranc de la Boella (1.0-0.9 Ma) considered to be an earlier local evolution.

Introduction: Muscle weakness in persons with Parkinson disease (PD) has been frequently recognized as a nonspecific symptom. In other neurological conditions, lower limb weakness, specifically quadriceps weakness, is the factor that causes greater gait disability. Little research has evaluated the relationship between lower limb muscle strength, using objective tools, in PD persons and gait performance.

Background And Objectives: Hematoma expansion (HE) is a major determinant of neurologic deterioration and poor outcome in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and represents an appealing therapeutic target. We analyzed the prognostic effect of different degrees of HE.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of patients with ICH admitted at 8 academic institutions in Italy, Germany, Canada, China, and the United States.

Detection and treatment of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) starting from childhood is fundamental to reduce morbidity and mortality. The activity of National realities such as the LIPIGEN (LIpid transPort disorders Italian GEnetic Network) Paediatric Group, founded in 2018, is a milestone in this context. The aim of this exploratory survey, conducted in October 2021 among Italian lipid clinics included in the LIPIGEN Paediatric Group, was to investigate the current clinical approach in the management and treatment of paediatric patients with suspected FH.

Pathogenetic mechanism recognition and proof-of-concept clinical trials were performed in our patients affected by collagen VI-related myopathies. This study, which included 69 patients, aimed to identify innovative clinical data to better design future trials. Among the patients, 33 had Bethlem myopathy (BM), 24 had Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy (UCMD), 7 had an intermediate phenotype (INTM), and five had myosclerosis myopathy (MM).

Heterogenisation of homogeneous catalysts onto solid supports represents a potential strategy to make the homogeneous catalytic function recyclable and reuseable. Yet, it is usually the case that immobilised catalysts have much lower catalytic activity than their homogeneous counterpart. In addition, the presence of a solid interface introduces a higher degree of complexity by modulating solid/fluid interactions, which can often influence adsorption properties of solvents and reactive species and, ultimately, catalytic activity.

Telemedical technologies provide significant benefits in sports for performance monitoring and early recognition of many medical issues, especially when sports are practised outside a regulated playing field, where participants are exposed to rapidly changing environmental conditions or specialised medical assistance is unavailable. We provide a review of the medical literature on the use of telemedicine in adventure and extreme sports. Out of 2715 unique sport citations from 4 scientific databases 16 papers met the criteria, which included all research papers exploring the use of telemedicine for monitoring performance and health status in extreme environments.

The β-thalassemias are a group of monogenic hereditary hematological disorders caused by deletions and/or mutations of the β-globin gene, leading to low or absent production of adult hemoglobin (HbA). For β-thalassemia, sirolimus has been under clinical consideration in two trials (NCT03877809 and NCT04247750). A reduced immune response to anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination has been reported in organ recipient patients treated with the immunosuppressant sirolimus.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is a frequent and serious complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), impairing patients' quality of life and significantly increasing mortality. Despite optimizing the use of conventional immunosuppressants and other biological drugs, its management remains unsatisfactory. This is mainly due to the heterogeneity of SLE, but also to insufficiently effective treatment regimens and clinical trial limitations (strict criteria, low number of patients included, and side effects).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCobalt(ii) complexes featuring hexadentate amino-pyridyl ligands have been recently discovered as highly active catalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER), whose high performance arises from the possibility of assisting proton transfer processes intramolecular routes involving detached pyridine units. With the aim of gaining insights into such catalytic routes, three new proton reduction catalysts based on amino-polypyridyl ligands are reported, focusing on substitution of the pyridine position. Specifically, a carboxylate (C2) and two hydroxyl substituted pyridyl moieties (C3, C4) are introduced with the aim of promoting intramolecular proton transfer which possibly enhances the efficiency of the catalysts.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is characterized by multisystemic clinical manifestations ranging from a relatively mild involvement to potentially life-threatening complications. Due to this complexity, a multidisciplinary (MD) approach is the best strategy for optimizing patients' care. The main aim of this systematic literature review (SLR) was to scrutinize the published data regarding the MD approach for the management of SLE patients.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive central nervous system tumor, requiring multimodal management. Due to its malignant behavior and infiltrative growth pattern, GBM is one of the most difficult tumors to treat and gross total resection is still considered to be the first crucial step. The deep understanding of GBM microenvironment and the possibility of manipulating the patient's innate and adaptive immune system to fight the neoplasm represent the base of immunotherapeutic strategies that currently express the future for the fight against GBM.
