Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the standard of care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO). The choice of a transradial approach (TRA) for anterior circulation LVOs is still debatable; the use of a specific tricoaxial system could help mitigate numerous issues related to transradial MT.

Materials And Methods: From November 2022 to November 2023, 22 patients underwent TRA-MT for anterior circulation LVOs, both as first-line and rescue from transfemoral approach (TFA) failure, with the same triaxial setup consisting of a 7F introducer sheath, 7F guide catheter, and aspiration catheters ranging from 5.

We herein investigate the heterobimetallic lantern complexes [PtVO(SOCR)] as charge neutral electronic qubits based on vanadyl complexes ( = 1/2) with nuclear spin-free donor atoms. The derivatives with R = Me (1) and Ph (2) give highly resolved X-band EPR spectra in frozen CHCl/toluene solution, which evidence the usual hyperfine coupling with the V nucleus ( = 7/2) and an additional superhyperfine interaction with the = 1/2 nucleus of the Pt isotope (natural abundance 34%). DFT calculations ascribe the spin density delocalization on the Pt ion to a combination of π and pathways, with the former representing the predominant channel.

Article Synopsis
  • Metamorphic fluids, faults, and shear zones act as channels for transporting carbon and energy sources from deep within the Earth to shallower areas.
  • The study reveals that mechanical failure of strong rocks occurs when CH-H-rich fluids accumulate at high pressures in deep forearc zones, originating from the reduction of carbonates.
  • Thermodynamic modeling indicates that CH-H-rich fluids can generate higher fluid pressures compared to carbon-poor fluids, leading to potential seismic activity due to the movement of deep energy sources along structural weaknesses in the Earth's crust.

Patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for hematologic malignancies during childhood have an increased risk of developing long-term sequelae that are in part attributable to the conditioning regimen. The present study aimed to assess the occurrence of long-term toxicities in a population of children who underwent HSCT for hematologic malignancies using either treosulfan or busulfan in the conditioning regimen. The cumulative incidences of growth impairment, altered gonadal function, altered thyroid function, cataracts, secondary malignant neoplasia, and altered pulmonary function were evaluated retrospectively by univariable and multivariable analyses in a population of 521 pediatric patients with acute leukemias or myelodysplastic syndromes treated in 20 Italian transplant centers affiliated with the Associazione Italiana Ematologia ed Oncologia Pediatrica (AIEOP).

In recent times, ion implantation has received increasing interest for novel applications related to deterministic material doping on the nanoscale, primarily for the fabrication of solid-state quantum devices. For such applications, precise information concerning the number of implanted ions and their final position within the implanted sample is crucial. In this work, we present an innovative method for the detection of single ions of MeV energy by using a sub-micrometer ultra-thin silicon carbide sensor operated as an in-beam counter of transmitted ions.

Industrial processing of quartz (SiO) and quartz-containing materials produces toxic dust. Fracturing quartz crystals opens the Si‒O bond and produces highly reactive surface species which mainly react with molecules like water and oxygen. This surface-reconstruction process forms silanol (Si‒OH) on the quartz surface, which can damage biological membranes under specific configurations.

Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Department of Medicine, University of Rome Campus Biomedico, School of Medicine, Rome; and Clinical and Research Section of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Fondazione Policlinico Campus Biomedico, Rome, Italy.

Objectives: Due to the prevalence of fibromyalgia in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients, any evaluation about PsA-specific patient-reported outcomes (PROs) should take in account the possible bias related to this comorbidity. Patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) is a patient-reported measure evaluating the acceptable and/or satisfactory level of symptoms in rheumatic diseases, which has been proposed as a disease activity index, in patients with PsA. Thus, this study was designed to analyse if the association between PASS and PsA disease activity may be biased by the presence of comorbid fibromyalgia.

Introduction: There has been increased interest in HER2-low breast tumors recently, as these tumors may have distinct clinical and molecular characteristics compared to HER2-negative and HER2-positive tumors. A new nomenclature has been proposed for HER2 1+ and HER2 2+ tumors that are confirmed negative according to fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). These tumors are now referred to as HER2-low, and it is thought that they may represent a distinct subtype of breast cancer that warrants further investigation.

Cyclodextrins (CDs) constitute a class of cyclic oligosaccharides that are well recognized and largely applied in the drug delivery field, thanks to their biocompatibility, low cost, and the possibility to be derivatized in order to tune and optimize the complexation/release of the specific drug. The conformational flexibility of these systems is one of their key properties and requires a cost-effective methodology to be studied by combining the accuracy of results with the possibility of exploring a large set of conformations. In the present paper, we have explored the conformational potential energy surface of the monomers and dimers of α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins (i.

Introduction: Italian and international outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), particularly in densely populated poultry areas (DPPAs), have increased over the past few decades. These emerging risks, which endanger both human and animal health and the entire poultry industry, can be effectively limited by biosecurity measures implemented at human-animal food chain interfaces. Some problems, however, persist in the application of these measures on the part of poultry farmers, prompting the need to explore those aspects and causes that limit their implementation.
