Background: Reconstruction of the abdominal wall in patients with prune-belly syndrome (PBS) following previous intra-abdominal procedures is a challenging problem with a high incidence of revision due to persistent bulging or herniation. The abdominal wall flaccidity not only produces a severe psychological and aesthetic discomfort for the patient but often determines functional disabilities, including inability to cough properly, impaired bowel and bladder function, and delay in posture and balance.
Methods: The authors describe three cases of reconstruction of abdominal wall using a modified double-breasted abdominoplasty fascial plication with additional acellular dermal matrix interposition and review the literature for innovations in the use of abdominal repair for reconstruction of these difficult cases.

Internal conversion (IC) is a common radiationless transition in polyatomic molecules. Theory predicts that molecular vibrations assist IC between excited states, and ultrafast experiments can provide insight into their structure-function relationship. Here we elucidate the dynamics of the vibrational modes driving the IC process within the Q band of a functionalized porphyrin molecule.

We designed [VO(bdhb)] (') as a new electronic qubit containing an oxovanadium(IV) ion ( = 1/2) embraced by a single bis(β-diketonato) ligand [Hbdhb = 1,3-bis(3,5-dioxo-1-hexyl)benzene]. The synthesis afforded three different crystal phases, all of which unexpectedly contain dimers with formula [(VO)(bdhb)] (). A trigonal form () with a honeycomb structure and 46% of solvent-accessible voids quantitatively transforms over time into a monoclinic solvatomorph and minor amounts of a triclinic solventless phase ().

Experimental characterization of the structural, electronic and dynamic properties of dilute systems in aqueous solvents, such as nanoparticles, molecules and proteins, are nowadays an open challenge. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is probably one of the most established approaches to this aim as it is element-specific. However, typical dilute systems of interest are often composed of light elements that require extreme-ultraviolet to soft X-ray photons.

This investigation involved an ab initio and Density Functional Theory (DFT) analysis of the hydrolysis mechanism and energetics in a borate network. The focus was on understanding how water molecules interact with and disrupt the borate network, an area where the experimental data are scarce and unreliable. The modeled system consisted of two boron atoms, bridging oxygen atoms, and varying numbers of water molecules.

Aim: The integrity of primary dentition is essential in the development of the jaws and permanent occlusion. The consequences of a premature loss of primary molars are: space loss, crowding, risk of impaction of the permanent teeth, ectopic eruption, anomalous inclination of the teeth adjacent to the loss molar, reduction of arch length. The mesial displacement of the posterior permanent teeth during eruption can cause a loss of space, which can be regained with orthodontic appliances.

Among smoker women with breast cancer quitting smoking has been shown to increase survival and surgical outcomes. Where surgery is indicated, the preoperative seems to be a crucial moment for smoking cessation interventions as it enhances recovery after surgery and motivates prolonged tobacco abstinence. Timing and frequency of preoperative quitting conversations were variables associated with quitting.

. The controlled delivery of potassium is an interesting neuromodulation modality, being potassium ions involved in shaping neuron excitability, synaptic transmission, network synchronization, and playing a key role in pathological conditions like epilepsy and spreading depression. Despite many successful examples of pre-clinical devices able to influence the extracellular potassium concentration, computational frameworks capturing the corresponding impact on neuronal activity are still missing.

Iron(II) can show a very rich coordination chemistry with concomitant modulation of its properties as promising functional materials. Metalation of the neutral tridentate nitrogen-donor -coordinating ligand 2,6-bis(2-(methyl)-2-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine (Mebtp) with Fe(ClO)·6HO through accurate solvent polarity control enables the selective crystallization of [Fe(Mebtp)](ClO)·MeCN·2.75HO (2·MeCN·2.

The constantly increasing demand of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) made them to be part of the so-called "critical elements" indispensable for the energy transition. The monopoly of only a few countries, the so-called balance problem between demand and natural abundance, and the need to limit the environmental costs of their mining, stress the necessity of a recycling policy of these elements. Different methods have been tested for REEs recovery.

We herein investigate the heterobimetallic lantern complexes [PtVO(SOCR)] as charge neutral electronic qubits based on vanadyl complexes ( = 1/2) with nuclear spin-free donor atoms. The derivatives with R = Me (1) and Ph (2) give highly resolved X-band EPR spectra in frozen CHCl/toluene solution, which evidence the usual hyperfine coupling with the V nucleus ( = 7/2) and an additional superhyperfine interaction with the = 1/2 nucleus of the Pt isotope (natural abundance 34%). DFT calculations ascribe the spin density delocalization on the Pt ion to a combination of π and pathways, with the former representing the predominant channel.
