Pazopanib in the real-world setting in soft tissue sarcomas: data from the Italian national registry.

Background: Pazopanib is part of the therapeutic armamentarium for the treatment of patients with advanced non-adipocytic soft tissue sarcomas (STS) who have received prior chemotherapy, but its optimal use in STS histologies is still left to be further defined.

Design And Methods: Data on STS patients treated with pazopanib in Italy have been prospectively collected from July 2013 to December 2019 through a drug monitoring registry managed by the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA). This nationwide observational cohort study included patients with advanced STS who received pazopanib.

The Role of Delayed Imaging at MRI in Rare Non-enhancing Prostate Cancer Brain Metastases: A Case Report.

Brain metastases in prostate cancer are rare (<2% of cases). In magnetic resonance imaging, nearly all brain metastases exhibit contrast-enhancement, which may be affected by the time elapsed since the administration of the contrast agent. We discuss a case where the brain metastases in a patient with prostate cancer do not show a clear contrast-enhancement on magnetic resonance imaging using a standard brain metastases protocol.

Zoonotic Paramyxoviruses: Evolution, Ecology, and Public Health Strategies in a Changing World.

The family includes a number of negative RNA viruses known for their wide host range and significant zoonotic potential. In recent years, there has been a surge in the identification of emerging zoonotic paramyxoviruses, particularly those hosted by bat species, which serve as key reservoirs. Among these, the genera Henipavirus and Pararubulavirus are of particular concern.

Driving Abilities and Wearing-Off in Parkinson's Disease: A Driving Simulation Study.

Background/objectives: Driving abilities require the synchronized activity of cerebral networks associated with sensorimotor integration, motricity, and executive functions. Drivers with Parkinson's disease (DwP) have impaired driving ability, but little is known about the impact of "wearing-off" and therapies in addition to L-DOPA on driving capacities. This study aimed to (i) compare driving performance between DwP during different motor states and healthy controls and (ii) assess the impact of add-on therapies on driving abilities.

Cardiac Surgery and Transcatheter Intervention for Valvular Heart Disease in Carcinoid Syndrome: Risk Factors, Outcomes, and Evolving Therapeutic Strategies.

Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) affects right-sided valves and causes significant mortality and morbidity. Even though the pathophysiology of the disease is not entirely understood, it is known that chronic exposure to high levels of circulating serotonin is the main factor responsible for developing valvular heart disease. Cardiac imaging plays a critical role in the management of CHD, so the final diagnosis can be performed through multimodal imaging techniques and the measurement of biomarkers.

The perivascular spaces in young and middle-aged stroke: A single-center analysis integrating clinical and Doppler ultrasound findings.

This research seeks to investigate correlations between enlarged Perivascular Spaces (PVSs) and clinical/imaging data, such as information obtained through Doppler analysis, in a population with young and middle-age stroke. We retrospectively reviewed demographics, clinical and MRI data, of 163 patients, with MRI confirmed stroke. All patients underwent ECD TSA (Eco-Color-Doppler of the Supra-aortic Trunks) and TCCD (Transcranial Eco-color-Doppler), to study extra or intracranial stenosis, presence and composition of plaques.

Burden of Disease of Breast Cancer in Italy: A Real-World Data Analysis.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) constitutes a significant public health challenge in Italy, with a considerable impact on healthcare resources and societal costs. Despite advancements in diagnostics and therapies, the economic burden of BC remains substantial, necessitating a comprehensive evaluation to inform healthcare policy and resource allocation. The aim of this study is to estimate both direct health costs and social security costs related to BC.

Dynamics and ecology of a multi-stage expansion of Oropouche virus in Brazil.

In March 2024, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued an alert in response to a rapid increase in Oropouche fever cases across South America. Brazil has been particularly affected, reporting a novel reassortant lineage of the Oropouche virus (OROV) and expansion to previously non-endemic areas beyond the Amazon Basin. Utilising phylogeographic approaches, we reveal a multi-scale expansion process with both short and long-distance dispersal events, and diffusion velocities in line with human-mediated jumps.
