Bladder cancer poses significant clinical challenges due to its high metastatic potential and poor prognosis, especially when it progresses to muscle-invasive stages. Here, we show that the mA reader YTHDC1 is downregulated in muscle-invasive bladder cancer and is negatively correlated with the expression of epithelial‒mesenchymal transition genes. The functional inhibition or depletion of YTHDC1 increased the migration and invasion of urothelial cells.

Background/aim: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a critical condition affecting newborns, which often results in long-term morbidities, including neurodevelopmental delays, which affect cognitive, motor, and behavioral functions. These delays are believed to stem from prenatal and postnatal factors, such as impaired lung development and chronic hypoxia, which disrupt normal brain growth. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of these neurodevelopmental impairments is crucial for improving prognosis and patient outcomes, particularly as advances in treatments like ECMO have increased survival rates but also pose additional risks for neurodevelopment.

Adequate secondary prevention in survivors of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) who also have atrial fibrillation (AF) is a long-standing clinical dilemma because these patients are at increased risk of recurrent ICH as well as of ischemic stroke. The efficacy and safety of oral anticoagulation, the standard preventive medication for ischemic stroke patients with AF, in ICH patients with AF are uncertain. Aims: Cancer cachexia affects up to 80 % of patients with advanced cancer and accounts for >20 % of all cancer-related deaths. Sarcolemmal localization of dystrophin, a key protein within the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC), is perturbed in multiple muscle wasting conditions, including cancer cachexia, indicating a potential role for dystrophin in the maintenance of muscle mass. Strategies to preserve dystrophin expression at the sarcolemma might therefore combat muscle wasting.
