Background And Aims: The aim of this systematic review was to assess the risk of cardiac toxicity in patients undergoing approved PD-1 (nivolumab, pembrolizumab, cemiplimab, dostarlimab), PD-L1 (atezolizumab, avelumab, durvalumab), and CTLA-4 (ipilimumab) inhibitors.

Results: Among a total of 2272 articles, 11 phase II and III clinical trials included: 5463 patients and 175 cardiac adverse events. The most common cardiac disorder was atrial fibrillation (12 %), while cardiac arrest and cardiac failure (6 %) led to death in three cases.

Scope: The emergence of post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) after SARS-CoV-2 infection underscores the critical need for preparedness in addressing future post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), particularly those linked to epidemic outbreaks. The lack of standardized clinical and epidemiological data during the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly hindered timely diagnosis and effective treatment of PCC, highlighting the necessity of pre-emptively standardizing data collection in clinical studies to better define and manage future PAIS. In response, the Cohort Coordination Board, a consortium of European-funded COVID-19 research projects, has reviewed data from PCC studies conducted by its members.

Standardization of hemoglobin A and hemoglobin F: Achievements and perspectives.

The establishment of reference systems for the standardization of hemoglobin A (HbA) and fetal hemoglobin (HbF), both critical for improving diagnostic accuracy in conditions such as β-thalassemia and sickle cell disease, are described. Coronaviruses (CoVs) share key genomic elements critical for viral replication, suggesting the feasibility of developing therapeutics with efficacy across different viruses. In a previous work, we demonstrated the antiviral activity of the antipsychotic drug lurasidone against both SARS-CoV-2 and HCoV-OC43. In this study, our investigations on the mechanism of action of lurasidone suggested that the drug exhibits antiviral activity by targeting the papain-like protease (PL-Pro) of both viruses, and the Spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, thereby hampering both the entry and the viral replication.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is characterized by an excess of lipids, mainly triglycerides, in the liver and components of the metabolic syndrome, which can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. While there is solid epidemiological evidence that MASLD clusters with cardiometabolic disease, several leading genetic risk factors for MASLD do not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, suggesting no causal relationship between MASLD and cardiometabolic derangement.
