Ocular viral infections are common and widespread globally. These infectious diseases are a major cause of acute red eyes and vision loss. The eye and its nearby tissues can be infected by several viral agents, causing infections with a short course and limited ocular implications or a long clinical progression and serious consequences for the function and structure of the ocular region.

In women at high/intermediate lifetime risk of breast cancer (BC-LTR), contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) added to mammography ± ultrasound (MX ± US) increases sensitivity but decreases specificity. Screening with MRI alone is an alternative and potentially more cost-effective strategy. Here, we describe the study protocol and the characteristics of enrolled patients for MRIB feasibility, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial, which aims to compare MRI alone versus MX+US in women at intermediate breast cancer risk (aged 40-59, with a 15-30% BC-LTR and/or extremely dense breasts).

The species Cervus elaphus is characterised by its significant and very swift ability to adapt to the broad woodland-related range of environments in the northern hemisphere, as can be seen by the large number of distinct populations and living subspecies. From studies on the phenotypic plasticity and adaptative capability of living populations of red deer, we can hypothesise that environmental conditions influenced the spread and the evolution of the species, especially in changing landscapes like those of the Italian peninsula during the Middle and Late Pleistocene. In fact, Cervus elaphus occurs on the Italian peninsula from the Middle Pleistocene, a period characterised by a particularly wide variety of environments determined by changeable palaeoclimatic and palaeogeographical conditions that are in all cases more significant in the late Middle Pleistocene and in the Late Pleistocene.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to report our experience with early stage glioblastoma (e-GB) and to investigate the possible clinical and imaging features that may be helpful to the radiologist to correctly diagnose this entity.
Methods: We performed a retrospective research of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma at two hospitals during a 10-year period. We reviewed all pre-operative MR and included only patients with early stage GB lesions, characterized by hyperintense on T2-weighted signal, with or without contrast-enhancement at post-contrast T1-weighted images, without "classic" imaging appearance of GB (necrosis, haemorrhage, oedema).

The favorable impact of antiviral therapy on low-grade hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma manifesting as marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) has been reported in some clinical studies. However, primary HCV-related marginal zone lymphomas (MZLs) confined to the liver have not been described in the literature nor have the resolution of liver lymphoma through anti-HCV eradication treatment. The authors report a genotype 1b HCV-positive patient with chronic hepatitis who exhibited lesions involving both hepatic lobes resembling hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background/aim: Leptin is a small hormone of protein nature, it is strongly involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism and its functioning mechanism is not yet well known or whether or not it is actually secreted by cholangiocytes, nor if the biliary tree expresses its receptors. In the past, various studies have tried to correlate leptin levels with certain neoplasms. The aim of this study was to demonstrate that serum leptin values can become a new sensitive and specific serum marker for cholangiocarcinoma.

Many specialists use the remote management of people with chronic disease as diabetes, but structured management protocols have not been developed yet. The COVID-19 pandemic has given a big boost to the use of telemedicine, as it allows to maintain the physical distance, essential to the containment of contagion having regular health contact. Encouraging results related to the use of telemedicine in women with hyperglycaemia in pregnancy, have been recently published.

Arterial hypertension is the main identifiable cardiovascular risk factor, and although the benefit of blood pressure reduction is universally acknowledged, the scientific community has long been divided over the therapeutic blood pressure targets to be reached, also considering the estimated overall cardiovascular risk and the presence of individual risk factors and associated comorbidities. During the last few years, numerous clinical studies and meta-analyses, in particular, the SPRINT study, have been published, demonstrating the advantages of an intensive antihypertensive treatment, over a target blood pressure value (<140/90 mmHg), in the reduction of major cardiovascular events, myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and all-causes cardiovascular mortality. Stemming from these results the major International Guidelines revisited the therapeutic objectives, recommending blood pressure value <130/80 mmHg for the vast majority of hypertensive patients until the age of 65 and suggesting a reduction of the target also in the elderly.

Although rare, the treatment of pregnant women with cancer remains a challenging situation that requires strict collaboration between different specialities and experts in different fields. Frequent lack of experience and knowledge about this condition could lead to late diagnosis, imprecise management, suboptimal treatment, and foetal and maternal harm. Until recently, the choice for a woman diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy was either to sacrifice the foetus by administering effective treatment to the mother or to risk potential harm to the mother by withholding chemotherapy.

(+)-() and (-)-()-5-methyl-Wieland-Miescher ketone (+)- and (-)-, are important synthons in the diastereo and enantioselective syntheses of biological and/or pharmacological interesting compounds. A key step in these syntheses is the chemoselective C(1)O acetalization to (+)- and (-)-, respectively. Various procedures for this transformation have been described in the literature.

In this paper a dispersive magnetic-solid phase extraction (MSPE) using a graphene nanocomposite (rG/FeO) followed by ultra high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection has been developed for the simultaneous analysis of new class of oral anticoagulants (NOAs) in human plasma. The performance of the nanocomposite graphene@FeO on the magnetic solid phase extraction of apixaban, rivaroxaban and dabigatran has been optimized using a Box-Behnken design of experiment. The amount of graphene nanocomposite, the sample pH and the adsorption time were the investigated parameters as a function of the extraction recovery.

This open-label, single-arm, prospective cohort trial is the first phase 3 safety study to describe outcomes in children treated with dabigatran etexilate for secondary venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention. Eligible children aged 12 to <18 years (age stratum 1), 2 to <12 years (stratum 2), and >3 months to <2 years (stratum 3) had an objectively confirmed diagnosis of VTE treated with standard of care (SOC) for ≥3 months, or had completed dabigatran or SOC treatment in the DIVERSITY trial (NCT01895777) and had an unresolved clinical thrombosis risk factor requiring further anticoagulation. Children received dabigatran for up to 12 months, or less if the identified VTE clinical risk factor resolved.

Objectives: To present the results of a Delphi consensus survey among Italian paediatric and adult rheumatologists on transitional care (TC) of young people (YP) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
Methods: A taskforce of 27 paediatric and adult rheumatologists evaluated the applicability of the 2016 EULAR/PReS recommendations for TC to the Italian rheumatology practice and healthcare system and formulated additional country-specific statements aimed to increase their suitability. After a two-round discussion, applicability of EULAR/PReS recommendations and agreement with newly-proposed statements were voted on a 0-10 scale (where 0 = no applicability/agreement and 10 = total applicability/agreement).

Thermal paper is widely used as a print medium for different applications but it constitutes a tricky substrate for fingermark visualization. An earlier work (J Forensic Sci 2015;60:1034) reported how to visualize fingermarks on untreated thermal paper by illuminating the item with a UV-A light source. In the present paper, the potential of the near infrared (NIR) luminescence has been tested on thermal paper compared to the mentioned method.
