In this study, we have evaluated the efficiency of a chemical fractionation procedure for the characterization of both the water-soluble and the insoluble fraction of the main elemental components of particulate matter (PM) deposited on urban leaves. The proposed analytical approach is based on the chemical analysis of leaf washing solutions and membrane filters used for their filtration. The ionic concentration of leaf washing solutions was compared with their electrical conductivity, making it a valuable proxy for the quantification of the water-soluble and ionic fraction of leaf deposited PM.

Pre-motor deficits in left spatial neglect: An EEG study on Contingent Negative Variation (CNV) and response-related beta oscillatory activity.

Neuropsychologia

October 2020

Dipartimento di Psicologia 39, Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza", Via dei Marsi 78, 00185, Roma, Italy; Fondazione Santa Lucia, Centro Ricerche di Neuropsicologia, IRCCS, Via Ardeatina 306, 00179, Roma, Italy.

Right Brain Damaged patients with left spatial neglect (N+), are characterised by poor allocation of attention in the contralesional left side of space. In a recent study (Lasaponara et al., 2018) we showed during orienting of spatial attention with endogenous central cues, both the EEG markers reflecting the early phases of orienting (Early Directing Attention Negativity) and those reflecting the late setting-up of sensory facilitation in the visual cortex (Late Directing Attention Positivity) are disturbed in N+ when these patients attend the left side of space.

Ripening is a crucial step to guarantee the high commercial value of cheddar cheese, one of the dairy products the European Union exports the most. Although several methods have lately been proposed to assess its ageing process from a chemical point of view, the majority of them is not particularly time-efficient and implies destructive analytical tests, thus, exhibiting limitations for, e.g.

Picking-up and exploiting spatial and temporal regularities in the occurrence of sensory events is important for goal-directed behaviour. According to the "Predictive Coding Hypothesis" (Friston Philosophical Trans R Soc B 360(1456):815-836, 2005), these regularities are used to generate top-down predictions that are constantly compared with actual sensory events. In a previous study with the Attentional Blink (AB) paradigm, we showed that the temporal and probabilistic uncertainty of T2s that are presented outside the Attentional Blink period, i.

Anatomical variations such as a non-recurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) are very rare (reported rates within 0.6-1% to the right side and only four cases to the left side) but they can lead to serious risk of nerve lesion during thyroidectomy. It is known that to prevent inferior laryngeal nerve lesions, it is mandatory to obtain a correct and wide exposure of the nerve during all kind of thyroid surgeries but in case of laryngeal nerve position anomalies, it is hard to achieve a safe nerve identification.

To clarify genetic differences between subspecies of the house mouse Mus musculus, their distribution, and hybridization, we first conducted a comparative analysis of variability of nucleotide sequences of fragments of the nuclear gene Brca1, exon 11 (2331 bp), and mitochondrial gene Cox1 (1260 bp) in 40 house mice from West and East Europe, Transcaucasia, Siberia, and Central and South Asia. Brca1 genotypes were divided into five main groups, which differed in a number of fixed substitutions. Genotypes of each group are characteristic for the certain geographical region and the following subspecies: M.

Phenoxy acid herbicides are used worldwide and are potential contaminants of drinking water. Reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) is commonly used to monitor phenoxy acid herbicides in water samples. RP-HPLC retention of phenoxy acids is affected by both mobile phase composition and pH, but the synergic effect of these two factors, which is also dependent on the structure and pKa of solutes, cannot be easily predicted.

Perceived well-being and mental health in haemophilia.

Psychol Health Med

October 2020

Dipartimento di Fisiopatologia Medico-Chirurgica e dei Trapianti, Università degli Studi di Milano, Milano, Italy.

The investigation of mental health among persons with haemophilia is mostly focused on negative and disease-related indicators. Literature however shows that psychosocial resources and optimal daily functioning can co-exist with chronic disease. The Dual Continua Model operationalizes positive mental health as 'flourishing', a condition comprising emotional, psychological, and social well-being dimensions.

Orienting of attention produces a "sensory gain" in the processing of visual targets at attended locations and an increase in the amplitude of target-related P1 and N1 ERPs. P1 marks gain reduction at unattended locations; N1 marks gain enhancement at attended ones. Lateral targets that are preceded by valid cues also evoke a larger P1 over the hemisphere contralateral to the no-target side, which reflects inhibition of this side of space [Slagter, H.
