Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) have emerged as promising treatment options, showcasing immense potential in addressing both oncologic and nononcologic diseases. Single-component organic phototherapeutic agents (SCOPAs) offer advantages compared to inorganic or multicomponent nanomedicine, including better biosafety, lower toxicity, simpler synthesis, and enhanced reproducibility. Nonetheless, how to further improve the therapeutic effectiveness of SCOPAs remains a challenging research area.

Familial Mediterranean fever with sigmoid colon stricture.

We describe a case of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) with sigmoid colon stricture. The patient, a woman in her 30 s, had a 12-year history of ileocolitis-type Crohn's disease. The colonoscope could not pass because of the sigmoid colon stricture, and the patient was referred to our hospital with complaints of abdominal pain and fever.

Application of active biomonitoring technique for the assessment of air pollution by potentially toxic elements in urban areas in the Kemerovo Region, Russia.

In Kemerovo Region (Kuzbass, Southwest Siberia), there is the largest coal basin in Russia and one of the largest in the world. Active moss biomonitoring was applied to assess the impact of potentially toxic elements on air pollution in five urban areas of the region. In each of the chosen urban regions, the moss bags were exposed in November and December of 2022 at locations with varying degrees of anthropogenic pressure.

Discriminating Analysis of Metal Ions via Multivariate Curve Resolution-Alternating Least Squares Applied to Silver Nanoparticle Sensor.

Heavy metals are life-threatening pollutions because of their great toxicity, long-term persistence in nature and their bioaccumulation in living organisms. In this work, we performed multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares analysis of UV-Vis raw spectra received by a colorimetric sensor constructed on mercaptoundecanoic acid functionalized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs@11MUA) to detect Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Zn in water. This combined approach allowed the rapid identification and quantification of multiple heavy metals and showed adequate sensitivity and selectivity, thus representing a promising analytical and computational method for both laboratory and field applications such as environmental safety and public health monitoring.

Here, we adapted a femtosecond laser ablation for the synthesis of WSe nanoparticles (NPs) with diameters from 5 to 150 nm, which conserve the crystalline structure of the original bulk crystal. This method was chosen due to its inherently substrate-additive-free nature and a high output level.

Mortality risks in different subtypes of masked hypertension in the Spanish ambulatory blood pressure monitoring registry.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the risks of death and cardiovascular death of different subtypes of masked hypertension, defined by either isolated daytime or nighttime blood pressure (BP) elevation, or both, compared with patients with normal both office and 24-h BP.

Methods: We selected 4999 patients with masked hypertension (normal office BP and elevated 24-h BP). They were divided in three different categories: isolated daytime masked hypertension (elevated daytime BP and normal nighttime BP, 800 patients), isolated nighttime masked hypertension (elevated nighttime BP and normal daytime BP, 1069 patients) and daytime and nighttime masked hypertension (elevation of both daytime and nighttime BP, 2989).

Rubbers prepared from technical poly(butadiene) and natural poly(isoprene) are studied by field-cycling (FC) H NMR relaxometry to elucidate the changes of the relaxation spectrum. Starting with the non-cross-linked polymer successively cross-links are introduced via sulfur or peroxide vulcanization. Matere bonds, a new member of the σ-hole family where metal atoms act as electron acceptors, have been shown experimentally and theoretically to play significant roles in the self-assembly and stabilization of supramolecular structures both in solid-state and solution-phase environments. This perspective article explores the physical nature of these interactions, emphasizing their directionality and structural influence in various supramolecular architectures.

This study examined the effects of using an activity schedule intervention package on the rate of contextually appropriate cooperative exchanges for children with ASD during classroom learning centers. In this study, children with ASD worked together in participant partnerships to complete learning center activities.

Using a Group Stimulus Preference Assessment to Design an Effective Group Contingency.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this study was to extend the limited research on group stimulus preference assessment (SPA) procedures. The study occurred in two sections of a middle school special education classroom and included 20 students with multi-categorical disabilities. A paired stimulus group SPA was used to identify a preference hierarchy for each class, and results were validated using single case designs in which baseline conditions were compared to group contingency conditions with alternating sessions of the highest-preferred (high-p) and lowest-preferred (low-p) consequences.

Recurrent peripheral ischemia following endovascular repair of an infrarenal aortic aneurysm: what did we miss?

We document a case of a 75-year-old patient with a history of hypercholesterolemia and hypertension, who underwent endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with common iliac artery ectasia. Despite an initially successful procedure, the patient experienced recurrent episodes of acute limb ischemia in his right leg. Subsequent imaging revealed thrombus formation distal to the stent graft, constituting a potential source of embolization, which warranted a reevaluation of the treatment strategy.

Evaluating the Potential of Microdroplet Flow in Two-Phase Biocatalysis: A Systematic Study.

Two-phase biocatalysis in batch reactions often suffers from inefficient mass transfer, inconsistent reaction conditions, and enzyme inactivation issues. Microfluidics offer uniform and controlled environments ensuring better reproducibility and enable efficient, parallel processing of many small-scale reactions, making biocatalysis more scalable. In particular, the use of microfluidic droplets can increase the interfacial area between the two phases and can therefore also increase reaction rates.

Background: Hospitalists working outside the Veterans Affairs (VA) system frequently will serve Veterans receiving care for acute conditions and/or awaiting transfer to VA facilities.

Objective: To perform a scoping review of health conditions and associated outcomes relevant to hospital medicine in US Veterans who served in active duty or reserve deployed roles after November 9, 2001.

Methods: A search of MEDLINE and Embase was performed using a combination of terms related to military service period and health conditions, yielding 5634 citations published after January 1, 2013.

Method: This cross-sectional study includes 7326 patients with diabetes and prediabetes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2011 to 2018.

This study examined the effects of the MyBFF@school program with nutrition education intervention (NEI) on nutrition knowledge and attitude of overweight and obese secondary schoolchildren.

Background: Effective and feasible large-scale interventions are urgently needed to reverse the current rise in childhood obesity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a multicomponent intervention program, MyBFF@school, on anthropometric indices and body composition metrics among overweight and obese adolescent schoolchildren in Malaysia.

Methods: This is a cluster randomized controlled trial which involved schoolchildren aged 13, 14 and 16 years old from 15 out of 415 government secondary schools in central Peninsular Malaysia which were randomly assigned into six intervention (N = 579 schoolchildren) and nine control (N = 462 schoolchildren).
