Introduction: Tertiary prevention through physical activity and psychosocial support can positively impact patient outcomes, such as physical function and quality of life (QoL). However, more research is required on the effectiveness of strategies designed to increase the uptake of tertiary prevention programmes among cancer patients. Here, we present the protocol for a single-centre, randomised controlled pilot trial testing the preliminary effectiveness of social prescription and virtual patient information in increasing tertiary prevention among cancer patients and support persons (SPs) (ESPRIT "ffectiveness of a ocial escription and virtual patient nformation in increasing ertiary prevention" pilot trial).

This systematic review evaluates the outcomes of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) compared to interferon-based therapies in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. DAAs consistently demonstrate higher sustained virologic response (SVR) rates and better safety profiles across various patient populations, including those with cirrhosis and treatment-experienced individuals. The studies included highlight the superior efficacy of DAAs, with fewer adverse events such as anemia and fatigue, making them more tolerable and suitable for long-term treatment.

A rapidly growing number of chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) is being translated into cell therapy for malignant and autoimmune diseases. While cancer cell-selective CAR targeting is undergoing continuous refinement, specific testing for overlooked recognition of healthy tissues is commonly not performed, which potentially results in underestimating of the risk of severe tissue damage upon CAR T cell application. Using the FcμR/IgM receptor/FAIM3/TOSO-specific CAR, designed to target chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells, we exemplarily outline a screen to uncover reactivities to healthy tissues and discuss the value of such pre-clinical testing to improve safety in CAR T cell application.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) were detected in blood samples and in cellular deposits of oxygenator membranes during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy and may be responsible for thrombogenesis. The aim was to evaluate the effect of the base material of gas fiber (GF, polymethylpentene) and heat exchange (HE) membranes and different antithrombogenic coatings on isolated granulocytes from healthy volunteers under static culture conditions. Contact of granulocytes with membranes from different ECMO oxygenators (with different surface coatings) and uncoated-GFs allowed detection of adherent cells and NETotic nuclear structures (normal, swollen, ruptured) using nuclear staining.
