While great methodological strides have been made in the area of decision making research, decisions that rely on subjective stimuli, such as personality traits, still pose a challenge for researchers, partly because it is difficult to define a standard of accuracy for such choices-they lack a "ground truth". In studies on value-based decisions, this same problem has been circumvented by comparing uncertain subjective decisions against a separately assessed judgment of value-a "standard". Here we apply this method in a task of verbal personality trait judgment, and show how a separately assessed standard judgment can be used to precisely control stimulus presentation and analyze subjective personality choices via the method of reverse correlation.

The rapid and dynamic implementation of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)-based assays has revolutionized genetic testing, and in the near future, nearly all molecular alterations of the human genome will be diagnosable via massive parallel sequencing. While this progress will further corroborate the central role of human genetics in the multidisciplinary management of patients with genetic disorders, it must be accompanied by quality assurance measures in order to allow the safe and optimal use of knowledge ascertained from genome diagnostics. To achieve this, several valuable tools and guidelines have been developed to support the quality of genome diagnostics.

[Diagnostics of acute compartment syndrome : Current gold standard and the state of science of noninvasive assessment methods].

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is defined by a disorder of the microcirculation due to a persistent pathological pressure increase within a muscle compartment. The ischemia of the tissue leads to an initially reversible functional impairment and finally irreversible damage of the musculature, nerves and other structures. Based on the understanding of the pathophysiology, the current diagnostic concepts and treatment using the so-called dermatofasciotomy of the affected muscle compartments can be derived.

[Advance directives and mental disorders: a practice recommendation of the Commission for Ethics and Law of the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics].

Background: Since the creation of legal requirements for advance directives by the legislator in 2009, special aspects of their application in the treatment of people with mental illnesses have been discussed.

Goal Of The Paper: Important questions on dealing with advance directives in everyday life will be answered in a practice-oriented manner.

Results: Among other things, this document answers the question of the conditions under which a patient can refuse or consent to hospitalization and treatment in advance, and in particular how to deal with advance directives whose implementation would also affect the rights of third parties.

[Current regulations in the Animal Welfare Act and the significance for animal research].

Due to the legal implantation of the 3R principle, the number of laboratory animals decreased significantly over the past 10 years. In this article, the historical development of animal experiments over the last decade will be presented in the context of the current regulations of the Animal Welfare Act. It points out bureaucratic obstacles to the approval of animal experiments, which jeopardize Germany as a research location for both academia and industry.

["Nerve Surgery" In German-Speaking Countries - Starting With The Nerve Club Up To A Certificate].

We present the Nerve Club, a community of colleagues originating from german-speaking countries and dedicated to those working in or outside surgery with interest in the peripheral nerve. This article reviews the club´s history and specific characteristics and activities, and highlights the concept of a certificate in nerve surgery. We have annual club meetings and organize every two years a plexus symposium.

[New aspects in etiology and treatment of adolescent anorexia nervosa-a postulated bio-psycho-social model and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic].

Anorexia nervosa is one of the most frequent chronic disorders of adolescence associated with a high mortality. During the COVID-19-pandemic, the number of hospitalized children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa significantly increased. This article outlines new research findings to decode the etiology of this serious disorder, especially a genetic disposition and changes of metabolism.

[End-of-life care in the emergency department-Indications for admission and spectrum of care-State of the art].

Background: Emergency departments (EDs) and ED observation units provide care for a wide range of medical emergencies, serving patients of all ages and conditions. This includes palliative care for patients who are rapidly deteriorating. However, there is limited knowledge about the incidence, reasons for ED visits, modes of arrival, symptoms, leading diagnoses, and the emergency care provided to these patients until the time of death.

[IgA nephropathy].

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most frequent primary form of glomerulonephritis. The origin of IgAN is only partially understood and appears to involve the occurrence of IgA, which is normally secreted by mucous membranes, in the circulation followed by its glomerular deposition and inflammatory changes. Clinically, IgAN mostly follows an inapparent course and the disease is often only first diagnosed by kidney biopsy when kidney function disorders are already manifested.

[Protocols in pediatric rheumatology (PROKIND): treat-to-target in polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis].

Background: The aims of the PROKIND protocols are improvement and harmonization of the diagnostics, monitoring, treatment decision and prognosis.

Material And Methods: This article reports the results of a prospective treat-to-target observational study of patients with polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) during the first year of treatment. Disease activity was assessed with the 10-joint juvenile arthritis disease activity score (JADAS-10), functional limitation with the childhood health assessment questionnaire disability index (CHAQ-DI) and with information on overall well-being, on pain, on fatigue and on global estimation of disease activity.

In everyday clinical practice, immunologically mediated systemic vasculitides are among the rare diseases, meaning that basic knowledge of major symptoms and indicative laboratory findings is crucial for the inclusion of these complex clinical entities in differential diagnostic considerations. For many years, systemic vasculitides have been classified according to the primarily affected vessel size, distinguishing large, medium-sized, and small vessels. Pain is very often one of the main complaints of these diseases, be it, for example, the temporally accentuated headache in giant cell arteritis, the early morning myalgias in the shoulder and hip girdle in polymyalgia rheumatica, or the mononeuritis multiplex in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis.

[Statement Paper on the Implementation of a National Organized Program in Germany for the Early Detection of Lung Cancer in Risk Populations Using Low-dose CT Screening Including Management of Screening Findings].

The process of implementing early detection of lung cancer with low-dose CT (LDCT) in Germany has gained significant momentum in recent years. It is expected that the ordinance of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) on early detection of lung cancer, which has been commented on by the professional societies, will come into effect by the end of 2023. Based on this regulation, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) will set up a program for early lung cancer detection with LDCT in the near future.
