Background And Objectives: Gingivitis and periodontitis are common periodontal diseases that can significantly harm overall oral health, affecting the teeth and their supporting tissues, along with the surrounding anatomical structures, and if left untreated, leading to the total destruction of the alveolar bone and the connective tissues, tooth loss, and other more serious systemic health issues. Numerous studies have shown that propolis can help reduce gum inflammation, inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and promote tissue regeneration, but with varying degrees of success reported. For this reason, this comprehensive systematic review aims at finding out the truth concerning the efficacy of propolis mouthwashes in treating gingivitis and periodontitis, as its main objective.

Syphilis, known as "the great mimicker," is caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum and is characterized by a diverse array of clinical and histopathologic presentations. In secondary cutaneous syphilis, the most consistent morphological features include a superficial and deep perivascular infiltrate containing plasma cells, varying degrees of endothelial swelling, irregular acanthosis, elongation of rete ridges, a vacuolated pattern, and the presence of plasma cells. Although serologic tests are essential for definitive diagnosis, spirochetes can sometimes be directly identified in silver-stained tissue slides or through immunohistochemistry.

The kinetics of uracil-N-glycosylase distribution inside replication foci.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University Olomouc, Olomouc, Czech Republic.

Mismatched nucleobase uracil is commonly repaired through the base excision repair initiated by DNA uracil glycosylases. The data presented in this study strongly indicate that the nuclear uracil-N-glycosylase activity and nuclear protein content in human cell lines is highest in the S phase of the cell cycle and that its distribution kinetics partially reflect the DNA replication activity in replication foci. In this respect, the data demonstrate structural changes of the replication focus related to the uracil-N-glycosylase distribution several dozens of minutes before end of its replication.

Gold-silver synergism has been well documented in many scientific works dealing with luminescent nanostructures that are exploitable in biomedical and environmental application. Frequently, the ratio of Au : Ag in synthetic mixtures was varied to influence the extent of Au-Ag synergism of the resulting luminescent gold-silver nanoclusters (GSNCs). However, in our approach, a new step, maturing under differing conditions using the same Au : Ag ratio (5 : 1), has been investigated systematically for the very first time.
