Methods: We analyzed data from the Brazilian TAVR registry from 2008 to 2023.

Adequacy of Fatty Acids Consumption Among Individuals in Secondary Cardiovascular Prevention.

Background: Adhering to a diet adequate in macronutrients is crucial for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of adherence to recommendations for the consumption of dietary fatty acids for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and to estimate whether the presence of certain cardiovascular risk factors would be associated with adherence.

Methods: Cross-sectional study using baseline data from 2,358 participants included in the "Brazilian Cardioprotective Nutritional Program Trial".

Clinical Validation of a Colorimetric Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification Using a Portable Device for the Rapid Detection of SARS-CoV-2.

Quick and reliable mass testing of infected people is an effective tool for the contingency of SARS-CoV-2. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Point-of-Care (POC) tests using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) arose as a useful diagnostic tool. LAMP tests are a robust and fast alternative to Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and their isothermal property allows easy incorporation into POC platforms.

Angiopathy and Stroke Associated with Homocystinuria in Childhood.

A previously healthy 13 year-old boy presented with acute-onset headaches, aphasia and right-sided hemiparesis. Imaging showed cerebral ischemic infarction due to bilateral carotid occlusion, and investigation for stroke etiology diagnosed homocystinuria. Homocystinuria is an autosomal recessive condition that affects the metabolism of the amino acid methionine due to an enzyme deficiency.

Left Atrial Appendage Closure with the LAmbre Device - Initial Multicentre Experience in Brazil.

Background: Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure has been an alternative to oral anticoagulation (OAC) for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF).

Objectives: To report the first results of an initial multicenter experience in Brazil and to investigate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of LAA closure with the new LAmbre device.

Methods: We collected procedural and follow-up data of 51 consecutive patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, restrictions for long-term OAC and suitable anatomy that underwent LAA closure with the LAmbre device in 18 centers in Brazil.

Central Auditory Processing and Cognitive Functions in Children.

 Nowadays, there is no consensus on whether central auditory processing disorder is a primary or a secondary deficit to other cognitive deficits. A better understanding of the association between cognitive functions and central auditory skills may help elucidate this dilemma.  To investigate possible associations between auditory abilities and cognitive functions in schoolchildren.

Use of flow cytometry and cytology to differentiate breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma from reactive seromas in Brazilian patients.

Introduction: The combination of cytology and multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) may be useful in the diagnosis of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and may be a practical way to differentiate lymphoma from benign and reactive seromas. Although the Brazilian breast implant market is the second largest in the world, with several manufacturers and the almost exclusive use of textured implants, the occurrence of BIA-ALCL in Brazil is underreported.

Methods: One hundred seventeen sequential collections of suspicious periprosthetic fluid (PF) from 105 Brazilian patients registered between March/2018 and March/2021 were evaluated by routine cytomorphology and flow cytometry.

A Prospective Cohort Study of Biomarkers in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anal Canal (SCCAC) and their Influence on Treatment Outcomes.

Although Chemoradiation (CRT) is the curative treatment for SCCAC, many patients present primary resistance. Since it is a rare tumor, response predictors remain unknown. We performed a prospective cohort study to evaluate biomarkers associated with CRT response, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS).

Relationship between Mitral Regurgitation and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: a Multi-Institutional Follow-up Study.

Background: Mitral regurgitation (MR) is prevalent in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). There are some controversies about the prognostic impact of MR in survival of TAVI patients.

Objective: To examine the relationship between TAVI and MR in a patient population from the Brazilian TAVI Registry.

Healthcare-Associated Infections in a Cardiac Surgery Service in Brazil.

Objectives: The study aimed to determine the incidence of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and their sites in a cardiac surgery service, as well as to determine if gender and age were risk factors for infection and to quantify mortality and increase in the hospital length of stay (LOS) due to HAI.

Methods: Medical records of patients who underwent cardiac surgery from January 2012 to January 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Data on age, gender, mortality, occurrence of HAI during hospitalization, and LOS were collected.

Timing factors as prognostic variables in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma treated with adjuvant radiotherapy: a literature review.

Introduction: Radiotherapy (RT) plays an important role in the treatment of patients with head and neck neoplasia, and is frequently used as postoperative adjuvant therapy. This study aimed to review the literature about timing factors that may influence the clinical outcomes of patients with advanced head and neck neoplasia treated with adjuvant RT.

Results: Timing factors such as total treatment time, length of adjuvant RT, and the absence of interruptions during RT may influence the clinical outcome of these patients.

Identifying and classifying anthropometric indicator for cardiovascular risk and coronary artery calcification: a protocol for a scoping review study.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality and disability worldwide, so the prevention becomes a priority in terms of public health. Therefore, it is necessary to use validated strategies to adequately identify these patients in daily clinical practice. The objective of this scope review is to comprehend and comprehensively describe the anthropometric indicators used in studies, such as such as weight, height, circumferences, lengths and skin folds, that address its association with coronary artery calcification to identify cardiovascular risk in the adult population.

The perception of apathy by caregivers of patients with dementia in Parkinson's disease.

Background: Apathy is one of the main neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and is associated with Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD).

Objective: To identify the characteristics of apathy in individuals with PDD according to caregiver perception.

Methods: Thirty-nine patients with PD according to MDS criteria for PDD were included.

Background: Acute viral respiratory infections represent a globally important cause of morbidity and mortality in childhood. An individual's cellular response appears to play a critical role in recovery from infections, given that individuals with impaired cellular immunity, congenital or acquired, have more severe diseases and secrete the virus for longer periods.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to immunohistochemically evaluate the expression of the cell surface antigens CD4, CD8, CD25, CD14 and CD74, in pneumonic infiltrates in the alveolar septa using paraffin-embedded lung samples from autopsies of immunocompetent children who died of lethal, non-pandemic, severe acute respiratory infections.

Hypothermia and early neonatal mortality in preterm infants.

Objective: To evaluate intervention practices associated with hypothermia at both 5 minutes after birth and at neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and to determine whether hypothermia at NICU admission is associated with early neonatal death in preterm infants.

Study Design: This prospective cohort included 1764 inborn neonates of 22-33 weeks without malformations admitted to 9 university NICUs from August 2010 through April 2012. All centers followed neonatal International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation recommendations for the stabilization and resuscitation in the delivery room (DR).
