Insulin autoimmune syndrome or Hirata's disease is a rare condition characterized by hypoglycemia associated with endogenous autoimmune hyperinsulinism. This report concerns the case of a 28-year-old Latin American woman with Graves' disease who developed insulin autoimmune syndrome and then subsequently became pregnant. She displayed symptoms related to severe hypoglycemia due to hyperinsulinemia, elevated C-peptide, and anti-insulin antibodies.

TP53 gene disruption, including 17p13 deletion [del(17p)] and/or TP53 mutations, is a negative prognostic biomarker in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) associated with disease progression, treatment failure and shorter survival. Germline variants in p53 signaling pathway genes could also lead to p53 dysfunction, but their involvement in CLL has not been thoroughly evaluated. The aim of this study was to determine the association of TP53, MDM2 and NQO1 gene variability with clinical and genetic data of CLL patients.

Cholecysto-cutaneous fistula (CCF) is a rare complication of untreated biliary pathology, with fewer than 100 cases documented in the literature. Most are secondary to bacterial infection, although it has also been described in gallbladder adenocarcinoma and post trauma. Its clinical presentation is variable, being able to present systemic affection, and its most frequent external drainage site is in the right hypochondrium.

Introduction: Pituitary incidentalomas (PIs) are lesions found incidentally in the pituitary on imaging performed for reasons unrelated to pituitary disease.
Methods: A cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive study was carried out with the aim of analyzing the clinical and evolutionary characteristics of a population of patients with PIs in the city of Córdoba.
Results: A total of 67 patients were included, 67% female, with a median age at diagnosis of 44 years.

Unraveling the immune signatures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients receiving various treatment regimens can aid in comprehending the immune mechanisms' role in treatment efficacy and side effects. Given the critical role of cellular immunity in RA pathogenesis, we sought to identify T-cell profiles characterizing RA patients under specific treatments. We compared 75 immunophenotypic and biochemical variables in healthy donors (HD) and RA patients, including those receiving different treatments as well as treatment-free patients.

B cells, follicular helper T (Tfh) cells and follicular regulatory T (Tfr) cells are part of a circuit that may play a role in the development or progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). With the aim of providing further insight into this topic, here we evaluated the frequency of different subsets of Tfh and Tfr in untreated and long-term treated RA patients from a cohort of Argentina, and their potential association with particular human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class-II variants and disease activity. We observed that the frequency of total Tfh cells as well as of particular Tfh subsets and Tfr cells were increased in seropositive untreated RA patients.

Introduction: Streptococcus pneumoniae (Spn) is occasionally implicated as a cause of intra-abdominal infection (IIASpn) that can be 1) spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) in elderly patients with previous peritoneal disease, associated with cirrhosis, in most of the cases 2) associated or adjacent to an intra-abdominal organ or postsurgical. (IIAbq) 3) peritonitis in previously healthy young women (PHYW). Our objective is report 18 cases of IIASpn describing: clinical presentation, comorbidities, need for surgery, microbiological findings, sensitivity of Spn to antimicrobials, therapeutic behavior, and evolution.

Objective: To describe obstetric outcomes based on COVID-19 vaccination status, in women with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) who developed COVID-19 during pregnancy.
Methods: Data regarding pregnant women entered into the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance registry from 24 March 2020-25 February 2022 were analysed. Obstetric outcomes were stratified by number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received prior to COVID-19 infection in pregnancy.

Introduction: The therapeutic use of the “cannabis” oil is a social problem that puts legal, health, scientific and cultural aspects under stress. Difficulty in access generates an emptiness exploited by the illegal market, to which patients and relatives resort to improve their health and quality of life. These oils, with unknown chemical composition, are used without therapeutic follow-up.

Background: Congenital iodide transport defect (ITD) is an uncommon cause of dyshormonogenic congenital hypothyroidism characterized by the absence of active iodide accumulation in the thyroid gland. ITD is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by loss-of-function variants in the sodium/iodide symporter (NIS)-coding gene.
Objective: We aimed to identify, and if so to functionally characterize, novel ITD-causing gene variants in a cohort of five unrelated pediatric patients diagnosed with dyshormonogenic congenital hypothyroidism with minimal to absent Tc-pertechnetate accumulation in the thyroid gland.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by progressive joint destruction associated with increased pro-inflammatory mediators. In inflammatory microenvironments, exogenous ATP (eATP) is hydrolyzed to adenosine, which exerts immunosuppressive effects, by the consecutive action of the ectonucleotidases CD39 and CD73. Mature B cells constitutively express both ectonucleotidases, converting these cells to potential suppressors.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of adult leukemia in the western hemisphere. It is characterized by a clonal proliferation of a population of CD5+ B lymphocytes that accumulate in the secondary lymphoid tissues, bone marrow, and blood. Some CLL patients remain free of symptoms for decades, whereas others rapidly become symptomatic or develop high-risk disease.

Having demonstrated the ability of monosialoganglioside GM1 micelles as oncology drug transporter, this work focuses on evaluating its application in an in vivo system, studying the toxicity and antitumoral effect of GM1-Ptx micellar formulation. The maximum tolerated dose (MTD) obtained after intravenous administration of GM1-Ptx in mice was 55 mg/kg and the 50% lethal dose (LD50) was 70 mg/kg. This value is higher than those described for the commercial formulations TAXOL and ABRAXANE, with LD50 of 30 and 45 mg/kg respectively.

In Latin-America, with 603 million inhabitants, the average prevalence of asthma is estimated at 17%, but with wide fluctuations, ranging from 5% in some cities (Mexico) to 30% in Costa Rica. The risk of severe exacerbations seems to be higher in Latin America compared with other regions. A majority of patients uses daily quick-relief medication, with the belief that it is the most important treatment because of its rapid onset of action; without treating the underlying inflammation.

Introduction: Migraine is a very prevalent disorder that is estimated to affect about 15% of adult subjects. Recently, the efficacy and safety of monoclonal antibodies that act on the calcitonin gene-related peptide pathway (MA-CGRP) has been evaluated in migraine. Several groups around the world have developed consensus guidelines about the use of monoclonal antibodies, however, in some regions is difficult to extrapolate the recommendations.
