Syndesmotic injuries of the ankle are critical for maintaining joint stability and function, especially during weight-bearing activities. While traditional management involves rigid fixation with trans-syndesmotic screws, limitations such as restricted micromovement, potential screw breakage, and the need for secondary procedures have spurred the adoption of dynamic fixation methods like the TightRope system (Arthrex, Naples, Florida, US). This report presents a case of a 54-year-old female with complications related to TightRope fixation following open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a bimalleolar fracture.

Situs inversus (SI) is a rare congenital disorder in which the abdominal and thoracic organs create a mirror image orientation of their typical anatomical positions. In this article, we present the case of a 49-year-old female individual who underwent a scheduled laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) due to postprandial colic pain in the epigastrium. A prior ultrasound examination, conducted a year earlier, revealed the presence of small gallstones within the gallbladder, and a follow-up preoperative ultrasound suggested the possibility of SI, though the diagnosis was ruled out by a third ultrasound.

Background: In severe aplastic anemia (AA) sibling haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) from the peripheral blood (PB) is an alternative when an HLA-identical donor is unavailable. Objective: To document the results of haplo-HSCT in high-risk severe AA. Methods: Twelve patients with severe AA who failed medical therapy and received a haploidentical PB unmanipulated HSCT from a sibling at an academic medical center were analyzed.

Background And Objective: The evaluation of both femoral and tibial torsional profiles remains a challenge in the orthopedic practice since there is no agreement on the most precise and reliable measurement method and technique. The aim of this review is to collect and critically report the most relevant and up-to-date evidence on the radiological techniques available to determine lower limb torsional deformities and to discuss the advantages and limitations of each technique to better define their optimal field of application.
Methods: Literature research on PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar databases was performed, utilizing the following search string: "torsion" AND ("lower limb" OR "femur" OR "tibia").

Neonatal candidiasis poses significant clinical challenges due to its potential for severe morbidity and mortality in vulnerable infants. Due to their underdeveloped immune system, neonates are at a higher risk for infections caused by Candida species. They can vary from mild to severe, including penetrating deep tissues, bloodstream spread, and dissemination to organs.

Introduction: Alopecia areata incognita (AAI) represents a distinct subtype of alopecia areata (AA), characterized by profound hair shedding and diffuse thinning. Despite being initially described in 1987, AAI remains underdiagnosed, with limited published reports. This comprehensive review aims to consolidate the current evidence concerning AAI pathogenesis, clinical presentation, trichoscopic and histopathologic attributes, differential diagnoses, and available treatment modalities.

The LINC (linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton) complex is a critical component of the cellular architecture that bridges the nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton and mediates mechanotransduction to and from the nucleus. Though it plays important roles in all blood vessels, it is in arterioles that this complex plays a pivotal role in maintaining endothelial cell integrity, regulating vascular tone, forming new microvessels and modulating responses to mechanical and biochemical stimuli. It is also important in vascular smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts, where it possibly plays a role in the contractile to secretory phenotypic transformation during atherosclerosis and vascular ageing, and in fibroblasts' migration and inflammatory responses in the adventitia.

Background: Minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy has gained widespread acceptance among hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons due to its demonstrated advantages in perioperative outcomes compared to the conventional open approach. This meta-analysis, along with trial sequential analysis, aimed to compare the outcomes of robotic pancreatoduodenectomy and laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy based on the current available evidence.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted from inception to July 2024.

Despite the acknowledged merits of precision oncology (PO) and its increasing global implementation, its full potential for advancing care and prevention remains unrealized. The benefits are currently accessible to only limited patient segments because of multifaceted barriers. Successful implementation hinges on various factors-scientific complexities not limited to technical, clinical, regulatory, economic, administrative, and health care policy-related challenges.

The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a widely used self-report measure of subjective well-being, but studies of its measurement invariance across a large number of nations remain limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset-with data collected between 2020 and 2022 -to assess measurement invariance of the SWLS across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups (N = 56,968). All participants completed the SWLS under largely uniform conditions.

Co-inhibitory molecules, such as cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), known as immune checkpoints, regulate the activity of T and myeloid cells during chronic viral infections and are well-established for their roles in cancer therapy. However, their involvement in chronic bacterial infections, particularly those caused by pathogens endemic to developing countries, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains incompletely understood. Cytokine microenvironment determines the expression of co-inhibitory molecules in tuberculosis: Results indicate that the cytokine IL-12, in the presence of Mtb antigens, can enhance the expression of co-inhibitory molecules while preserving the effector and memory phenotypes of CD4+ T cells.

Purpose: Food insecurity is prevalent among patients with cancer. Gaps in our understanding of preferences for food assistance among Latino or Hispanic, immigrant, and people with multiple races and ethnicities limit uptake of food assistance interventions among these populations. We aimed to deeply understand the needs and preferences and barriers to food assistance intervention uptake among low-income, predominantly Latino or Hispanic, immigrant, and people with multiple races and ethnicities and cancer to inform development of tailored interventions.
