Background: Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is the only treatment option for various end-stage liver diseases. Ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury is one of the unavoidable complications/conditions in OLT. In 2019, a total of 8896 livers were transplanted of which >94% organs were procured from deceased donors.

Percutaneous thermal ablation for treatment of osteoid osteoma: a systematic review and analysis.

Skeletal Radiol

September 2020

Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Division of Interventional Radiology and Image-Guided Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine, 100 Woodruff Circle, Atlanta, GA, USA.

Objective: Although radiofrequency ablation is well validated for treatment of osteoid osteoma, newer technologies, namely cryoablation, have been less thoroughly studied. The purpose is to perform a systematic review and pooled analysis of percutaneous ablation technologies for treatment of osteoid osteoma with subset analysis of intra-articular and spinal tumors.

Material And Methods: A total of 36 of 79 identified manuscripts met inclusion criteria, comprising 1863 ablations in 1798 patients.

Prediction of disease relapse in a cohort of paediatric patients with localized scleroderma.

Br J Dermatol

May 2019

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of Univeristy of Pittsburgh Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh Scleroderma Center, Pittsburgh, PA, U.S.A.

Background: Localized scleroderma (LS) is an autoimmune condition of the skin and underlying tissue. Active or recurring disease can lead to cumulative tissue damage, especially in paediatric-onset disease.

Objectives: To highlight the rate of relapse of LS activity in a cohort of paediatric patients and to evaluate for potential clinical and laboratory predictors of disease relapse.

Precursors of prostate-specific antigen (proPSA) have been previously shown to be more concentrated in prostate cancer tissue. This study characterizes the immunohistochemical staining (IHS) of proPSA forms in metastatic prostate cancer compared with prostate specific antigen (PSA) and prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP). A tissue microarray, consisting of 74 cases of metastatic prostate carcinoma and control tissues, was used.

Zygomycetes are ubiquitous fungi that can cause invasive disease associated with high mortality. We report 10 solid organ transplant recipients with zygomycosis (incidence 2 per 1000) and reviewed 106 cases in the English-language literature. These included renal (n = 73), heart (n = 16), lung (n = 4), heart/lung (n = 2), liver (n = 19) and kidney/pancreas (n = 2) transplant recipients.
