Although the primary roles of the kallikreinkinin system and the renin-angiotensin system are quite divergent, they are often intertwined under pathophysiological conditions. We examined the effect of ANG II on regulation of B(2) kinin receptors (B2KR) in vascular cells. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) were treated with ANG II in a concentration (10(-9)-10(-6) M)- and time (0-24 h)-dependent manner, and B2KR protein and mRNA levels were measured by Western blots and PCR, respectively.

Skeletal muscle androgen receptor (AR) expression at the onset of functional overload (OV) has not been well described. It is also not known if overload and/or anabolic steroid differentially regulate AR expression. The purpose of this study was to examine AR gene expression at the onset of functional OV in rat plantaris muscle with and without nandrolone decanoate (ND) administration.

Demographic differences between adolescents referred for psychiatric services by the Family Court and by facility staff at a state-run juvenile justice evaluation center are examined. Those groups are then compared to the facility's general population. It is concluded that race, gender, age, and judicial discretion are the factors that distinguish court-referred adolescents from their counterparts referred by facility staff and in the general population.
