Osteochondral lesion of the talus is defined as damage in the cartilage that covers the talus bone, compromising the integrity of the joint in the long term. Due to the low incidence of this pathology, there are few studies to understand the importance of lesion size and position in cartilage strains. The purpose of this study is then to analyze the influence of the lesion size in joint behavior.

Study of fixation of a mandibular plate for favourable fractures of the mandibular angle: numerical predictions.

Fractures of the mandibular angle have been well-described and, in most societies, their incidence is decreasing. In this study we analysed the stabilisation of fractures using a single plate (standard or optimised model). The finite element model was developed based on a mandibular computed tomographic scan, together with a miniplate from DePuy Synthes and an optimised plate.

Edible flowers consumption and use are an increasing food trend worldwide, although information concerning their nutritional composition and nutraceutical value is still scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to contribute to the popularization of pansies (Viola × wittrockiana), through the analysis of the nutritional and nutraceutical features of pansies with different colors (white, yellow, and red) and flowering stages. Both flower type and flowering stage influenced the flower composition.

Formation of highly resistant spores is a concern for the safety of low-acid foods as they are a perfect vehicle for food spoilage and/or human infection. For spore inactivation, the strategy usually applied in the food industry is the intensification of traditional preservation methods to sterilization levels, which is often accompanied by decreases of nutritional and sensory properties. In order to overcome these unwanted side effects in food products, novel and emerging sterilization technologies are being developed, such as pressure-assisted thermal sterilization, high-pressure carbon dioxide, high-pressure homogenization, and cold plasma.

Over the last several decades, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) has attracted much attention due to its diverse physiological implications in plants, animals, and microorganisms. GABA naturally occurs in plant materials and its concentrations may vary considerably, from traces up to μmol/g (dry basis) depending on plant matrix, germination stage, and processing conditions, among other factors.
