We develop a minimalist compartmental model to study the impact of mobility restrictions in Italy during the Covid-19 outbreak. We show that, while an early lockdown shifts the contagion in time, beyond a critical value of lockdown strength the epidemic tends to restart after lifting the restrictions. We characterize the relative importance of different lockdown lifting schemes by accounting for two fundamental sources of heterogeneity, i.

Background: Chronic viral infections of the heart are considered one antecedent event leading to progressive dysfunction of the myocardium, often with an impaired prognosis due to a virus- or immune-mediated myocardial injury. Symptomatic treatment does not influence the viral cause of heart failure, and the effect of antiviral treatment has not been determined, yet.
Methods And Results: In this phase II study 143 patients with symptoms of heart failure and biopsy-based confirmation of the enterovirus (EV), adenovirus, and/or parvovirus B19 genomes in their myocardial tissue were randomly assigned to double-blind treatment, and received either placebo (n = 48) or 4 × 10(6) (n = 49) and 8 × 10(6) IU (n = 46) interferon beta-1b (IFN-β-1b) for 24 weeks, in addition to standard heart failure treatment.

We describe recent improvements in the development of the high power laser system used in the motion induced radiation (MIR) experiment to amplify electromagnetic fields inside a microwave cavity. The improvements made on the oscillator stabilization, the pulse train shaping device, and the spatial beam uniformity are reported.

Interaction between immune cells and tumoral cells of a case of glioblastoma was studied. Tissue fragments obtained during neurosurgery from different areas of the tumor were examined before and after rIL-2 treatment in vitro. The same morphofunctional type of cells usually activated by rIL-2, which show antitumoral reactivity, was observed both in the glioblastoma imprints and in tumoral fragments cultured with rIL-2.

The anomalous lipemic values are considered as a risk factor in coronarial pathology. We are separately studying different lipemic factors, Lp(a) in the present paper. May be our 38 clinical cases are still a too small number to demonstrate any correlation between Lp(a) haematic content and arterial pathology, and we will continue this study in the evolution of the pathology, eventually until the infarctus.

Individual chromosomes can be identified by means of in situ hybridization with DNA probes for chromosome-specific repetitive sequences. The efficiency and sensitivity of the method are strictly dependent on the characteristics of the probes and the experimental conditions. Using three probes with different copy numbers, we demonstrated that the target chromosomes can be visualized in interphase when the homologous sequences are repeated at least 50 times.

In a newborn female, an abnormal karyotype, 46,XX/47,XX,+mar/47,XX,+9, was found associated with several malformations. The marker chromosome was present in 70% of peripheral blood lymphocytes, and its size appeared to be less than half of the smallest chromosomes. Several differential staining methods provided no indication as to its origin.

In order to study the fate of the parental genomes in somatic cell hybrids between distantly related species, protoplasts from cultured cells of Daucus carota and Oryza sativa were fused. Selective conditions resulted, exclusively, in the growth of hybrid colonies which combined the capacity to multiply of carrot cells with the natural resistance to A2CA of rice cells. A methodology for measuring the relative contribution of the parental cells to the hybrid nuclear genome has been worked out.

The properties investigated were the hypoglycemie, convulsive and antigenic activities, and the effect on the glucose uptake of the diaphragm and the epididymal fat pad of the rat. It was observed that the(131)I-insulin rapidly lost its hypoglycemie activity and its insulin effectin vitro, whereas the antigenic and the convulsive activities were retained longer.
