Background: To examine the psychometrics properties of the French version of two scales measuring general (HLS-Q12) and navigational (HLS-NAV) health literacy (HL) using validation methods based on modern psychometric test theories: a Rasch model analysis.
Methods: The data on representative samples of the French adult population came from the Health Literacy Survey (N = 2 003), conducted in France in two waves (2020 and 2021), and from the third wave of SLAVACO study (N = 2 022), conducted in December 2021. A Rasch analysis was performed using a partial credit model with marginal maximum likelihood estimation adapted to polytomous data.

Group II-VI semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) with atomically defined thicknesses and extended atomically flat (001) facets are used for ligand binding and chiro-optical effects. In this study, we demonstrate that tartrate ligands, anchored by two carboxylate groups, chelate the (001) facets of NPLs at an average ratio of one tartrate molecule to two cadmium (Cd) surface atoms. This assembly of chiral molecules on inorganic nanocrystals generates a circular dichroism -factor as high as 1.

The microwave spectrum of 2,3-dimethylfuran was investigated using a Fourier-transform microwave spectrometer under supersonic expansion. The molecule possesses two inequivalent methyl internal rotors, causing the splitting of each rotational transition into five torsional species. A total of 337 torsional transitions were assigned and fitted in a global fit with the program XIAM, where accurate and physically meaningful geometry and internal rotation parameters could be deduced.

Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is a leading nanoscale technique known for its significant advantages in the analysis of soft materials and biological samples. Traditional AFM data analysis is often based on the Hertz model, which assumes perpendicular indentation of a planar sample. However, this assumption is not always valid due to the varying geometries of soft materials, whether natural, synthetic or biological.

Shock is a life-threatening condition. This study evaluated if sublingual microcirculatory perfusion on admission is associated with 30-day mortality in older intensive care unit (ICU) shock patients. This trial prospectively recruited ICU patients (≥ 80 years old) with arterial lactate above 2 mmol/L, requiring vasopressors despite adequate fluid resuscitation, regardless of shock cause.

Objectives: Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a complex lung disease associated with significant morbidity. The ABPA Working Group (AWG) of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) revised their management guidelines in 2024, but there is currently no standardised tool to assess adherence to these recommendations.
Methods: We extracted key recommendations from the updated 2024 ISHAM-AWG guidelines, focusing on critical areas: screening and diagnosis of ABPA, managing acute and treatment-dependent ABPA, and monitoring treatment response.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Genetic factors influence the effect of its main treatment option, antidepressant drugs (ATD). The GRIK4 rs1954787(T>C) genetic polymorphism was associated with response following 1-3 months of ATD treatment in some studies, but not others.

We present new satellite-based daily observations of the 3D distribution of aerosols from most common types and origins, both over land and ocean, derived from TROpospheric Ozone Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) measurements. This is done using the so-called AEROS5P (AEROsol Sentinel 5 Precursor) approach which retrieves vertical profiles of aerosol extinction from passive measurements of high-resolution spectral reflectance in the visible and near infrared for cloud-free conditions. Previous work demonstrated the potential of this approach, but it was initially applicable only to biomass burning aerosols with limited spatial coverage over ocean.

The photodissociation of molecules is becoming an increasingly important factor to consider in the evolution of exoplanets' atmospheres orbiting around UV-rich stars, as it leads to the enrichment of atmospheric complexity. A new method is developed for computing the rotationally and vibrationally resolved photodissociation spectrum of triatomic molecules. The time-independent Schrödinger equation is solved using the variational nuclear motion program EVEREST; a new code EXOCSMOOTH is employed to compute the cross-sections by applying Gaussian smoothing to a set of discrete transitions into the continuum.

Background: Despite scarce data, invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) is widely suggested as first-line ventilatory support in cardiogenic shock (CS) patients. We assessed the real-life use of different ventilation strategies in CS and their influence on short and mid-term prognosis.
Methods: FRENSHOCK was a prospective registry including 772 CS patients from 49 centers in France.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays prompt a natural response in epidermal cells, particularly within melanocytes. The changes in gene expression and related signaling pathways in melanocytes following exposure to UV radiation are still not entirely understood. Our findings reveal that UVB irradiation suppresses the expression of Dicer (also known as Dicer1).

During focal ischemia, neurons can use lactate as an alternative source of energy through its oxidation into pyruvate by the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). After cardiac arrest, the neurological consequences of this phenomenon are unknown. Experimental study.

Background: Pervasive translation is a widespread phenomenon that plays a critical role in the emergence of novel microproteins, but the diversity of translation patterns contributing to their generation remains unclear. Based on 54 ribosome profiling (Ribo-Seq) datasets, we investigated the yeast Ribo-Seq landscape using a representation framework that allows the comprehensive inventory and classification of the entire diversity of Ribo-Seq signals, including non-canonical ones.
Results: We show that if coding regions occupy specific areas of the Ribo-Seq landscape, noncoding regions encompass a wide diversity of Ribo-Seq signals and, conversely, populate the entire landscape.

Urban areas concentrate on human activities that generate large amounts of waste. A small fraction is mismanaged and ends up on urban surfaces and eventually in waterways. The fraction reaching waterways is usually estimated using poorly constrained data, while litter density on urban surfaces and its subsequent transfer dynamics are also poorly documented.

Drosophila glue, a bioadhesive produced by fly larvae to attach themselves to a substrate for several days, has recently gained attention for its peculiar adhesive and mechanical properties. Although Drosophila glue production was described more than 50 years ago, a general survey of the adhesive and mechanical properties of this proteinaceous gel across Drosophila species is lacking. To measure adhesion, we present here a protocol that is robust to variations in protocol parameters, pupal age and calculation methods.

Background: Few studies evaluated the use of Household Disinfectant and Cleaning Products (HDCPs) during the COVID-19 pandemic, but no population-based cohorts used longitudinal data. We studied changes in HDCPs during the first lockdown, based on longitudinal data from the French population-based NutriNet-Santé and CONSTANCES cohorts.
Methods: Based on standardized questionnaires on household cleaning tasks in 2018-2019 and around the first lockdown in France (March17-May3 2020), we compared the duration of weekly use of HDCPs (< 1 day/week, < 10 min/week; 10-30 min/week; > 30 min/week) and the household cleaning help (yes/no) before and during the lockdown period by Bhapkar and McNemar's tests.
