Heparan sulfate (HS) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) proteoglycans (PG) consist of a core protein to which the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains, HS or CS, are attached through a common linker tetrasaccharide. In the extracellular space, they are involved in the regulation of cell communication, assuring development and homeostasis. The HSPG biosynthetic pathway has documented 51 genes, with many diseases associated to defects in some of them.

Background: The health effects of alcohol consumption, particularly regarding potential protective benefits of light to moderate intake compared to abstinence, remain a subject of ongoing debate. However, epidemiological studies face limitations due to imprecise exposure measurements and the potential for bias through residual confounding and reverse causation. To address these limitations, we conducted a systematic review of Mendelian Randomization (MR) studies examining the causal relationship between alcohol consumption and cancers, cardiovascular, liver, and neurological diseases.

Interactions between magnetic fields advected by matter play a fundamental role in the Universe at a diverse range of scales. A crucial role these interactions play is in making turbulent fields highly anisotropic, leading to observed ordered fields. These in turn, are important evolutionary factors for all the systems within and around.

Article Synopsis
  • This paper investigates a model where a particle diffuses along a line and experiences stochastic resetting at a rate r, while its position may be rescaled by a factor a (positive or negative).
  • When |a|<1, the long-term position distribution stabilizes as a symmetric Gaussian shape near the peak at x=0, but decays exponentially for larger |x|.
  • The study finds that the mean first-passage time (MFPT) to a target varies with different values of a, with the optimal MFPT indicating that negative rescaling aids in target search, unlike positive rescaling, which makes the search less efficient.

We compute the connected two-time correlator of the maximum M_{N}(t) of N independent Gaussian stochastic processes (GSPs) characterized by a common correlation coefficient ρ that depends on the two times t_{1} and t_{2}. We show analytically that this correlator, for fixed times t_{1} and t_{2}, decays for large N as a power law N^{-γ} (with logarithmic corrections) with a decorrelation exponent γ=(1-ρ)/(1+ρ) that depends only on ρ, but otherwise is universal for any GSP. We study several examples of physical processes including the fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst exponent H and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process (OUP).

Beilstein J Org Chem

November 2024

Univ Paris-Est Créteil, CNRS, ICMPE, UMR 7182, 2 rue Henri Dunant, 94320 Thiais, France.

The use of alkylzinc bromides in the multicomponent Mannich reaction is described. Heteroleptic organozinc compounds were obtained in THF or 2-MeTHF by direct insertion of zinc dust into the C-Br bond of alkyl bromides. It was found that the presence of a stoichiometric amount of LiCl was essential for the efficiency of the subsequent three-component coupling with aldehydes and amines.
