The effect of growth temperature and subsequent annealing on the epitaxy of both single- and few-layer TaSe on Se-terminated GaP(111) substrates is investigated. The selective growth of the 1T and 1H phases is shown up to 1 ML according to X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies. The 1H monolayer, favored at low temperatures, exhibits a very homogeneous coverage after annealing, while the 1T ML, grown at high temperatures, is characterized by a better in-plane orientation.

The (PSS) experiment was part of the European Space Agency's mission and was conducted on the International Space Station from 2014 to 2016. The PSS experiment investigated the properties of montmorillonite clay as a protective shield against degradation of organic compounds that were exposed to elevated levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in space. Additionally, we examined the potential for montmorillonite to catalyze UV-induced breakdown of the amino acid alanine and its potential to trap the resulting photochemical byproducts within its interlayers.

Purpose: Establishing an accurate prognosis remains challenging in older patients with cancer because of the population's heterogeneity and the current predictive models' reduced ability to capture the complex interactions between oncologic and geriatric predictors. We aim to develop and externally validate a new predictive score (the Geriatric Cancer Scoring System [GCSS]) to refine individualized prognosis for older patients with cancer during the first year after a geriatric assessment (GA).

Materials And Methods: Data were collected from two French prospective multicenter cohorts of patients with cancer 70 years and older, referred for GA: ELCAPA (training set January 2007-March 2016) and ONCODAGE (validation set August 2008-March 2010).

Laboratoire de Physique et Chimie de l'Environnement et de l'Espace (LPC2E), CNRS-Université Orléans-CNES, Orléans Cedex 2 45071, France.

The source of nitrous acid (HONO) and its importance in island or marine environments are poorly understood. Herein, based on comprehensive field measurements at a hilltop on Corsica Island, we find an inverse diel variation of HONO with higher concentrations during daytime. Night-time HONO budget analysis indicates significant HONO formation during air mass transport along the hillside.

Population Dynamics of the Exotic Flatworm in an Invaded Garden.

Ecol Evol

January 2025

Univ Paris-Est Créteil, Sorbonne Université, Université Paris-Cité, CNRS, IRD, INRAE Institute of Ecology and Environmental Science, IEES Créteil France.

Population dynamics and the way abundance fluctuates over time may be key determinants of the invasion success of an introduced species. Fine-scale temporal monitoring of invasive species is rarely carried out due to the difficulties in collecting data regularly and over a long period. Thanks to the collaboration of an amateur naturalist, a unique dataset on the abundance of the invasive land flatworm was obtained during a 4-year survey of a French private garden, where up to 1585 were recorded in 1 month.

Univ Paris Est Créteil, INSERM U955, IMRB, Translational NeuroPsychiatry Laboratory, Fondation FondaMental, Créteil, France.

Despite tremendous advancements in neuroscience, there has been limited impact on patient care. Current psychiatric treatments are largely non-specific, and drug development is hindered by outdated, overinclusive diagnostic categories and a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Additionally, mechanisms underlying psychiatric illnesses and their treatments with conventional medications remain poorly understood.

Mitotic chromatin marking governs the segregation of DNA damage.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Laboratory of Epigenome Integrity, Epigenetics & Cell Fate Centre, UMR7216 CNRS, Université Paris Cité, Paris, France.

The faithful segregation of intact genetic material and the perpetuation of chromatin states through mitotic cell divisions are pivotal for maintaining cell function and identity across cell generations. However, most exogenous mutagens generate long-lasting DNA lesions that are segregated during mitosis. How this segregation is controlled is unknown.

In the present investigation, redox-responsive-based dextran carriers were developed for the controlled release of hydrophobic molecules via a reducing agent naturally present in cells, namely glutathione. In this sense, dextran was modified with a thiol derivative. The roles of the hydrophilic segments in the molecular self-organisation of polysaccharide derivatives into nanoparticles were investigated by varying the average dextran molar mass.

Resting-State Cortico-Cerebellar Connectivity Correlates with Post-Stroke Motor Recovery - A Prospective Functional MRI Study.

Cerebellum

January 2025

Inserm U 1127, CNRS UMR 7225, Sorbonne Université, UPMC Univ Paris 06, UMR S 1127, Institut du Cerveau, ICM, Paris, F-75013, France.

Cerebellar functional and structural connectivity are likely related to motor function after stroke. Less is known about motor recovery, which is defined as a gain of function between two time points, and about the involvement of the cerebellum. Fifteen patients who were hospitalized between 2018 and 2020 for a first cerebral ischemic event with persistent upper limb deficits were assessed by resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI) and clinical motor score measurements at 3, 9 and 15 weeks after stroke.

Schizotypal dimensions by migrant status in the general population: An exploratory study.

Schizophr Res

January 2025

AP-HP, Hôpitaux Universitaires "H. Mondor", DMU IMPACT, INSERM, IMRB, translational Neuropsychiatry, Fondation FondaMental, Univ Paris-Est-Créteil (UPEC), Créteil, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Research shows that migrant status and ethnic minority background increase the risk of psychosis, but it's unclear if this also applies to subclinical psychosis.
  • In a study with 460 participants, first and second-generation migrants, as well as certain ethnic minorities, reported higher levels of negative psychotic traits compared to a reference population.
  • These findings suggest a connection between negative schizotypal traits and migrant/ethnic status, indicating a need for specific mental health interventions to support these groups and prevent the development of psychotic disorders.
