The aim of the interdisciplinary S2k guideline "Acute infectious gastroenteritis in infants, children and adolescents" is to summarise the current state of knowledge on the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and hygiene of acute infectious gastroenteritis, including nosocomial gastrointestinal infections, in infants, children and adolescents on the basis of scientific evidence, to evaluate it by expert consensus and to derive practice-relevant recommendations from it. The guideline provides a corridor for action for frequent decisions. It also serves the purpose of evidence-based further education and training and is thus intended to improve the medical care of children with acute gastroenteritis.

Impact of COVID-19 infection on lung function and nutritional status amongst individuals with cystic fibrosis: A global cohort study.

Background: Factors associated with severe COVID-19 infection have been identified; however, the impact of infection on longer-term outcomes is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of COVID-19 infection on the trajectory of lung function and nutritional status in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF).

Methods: This is a retrospective global cohort study of pwCF who had confirmed COVID-19 infection diagnosed between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

Introduction: Structured emergency room concepts have been shown to contribute to patient safety. Until now there has been no uniform emergency room concept for critically ill and seriously injured children and adolescents in the emergency room at the Altona Children's Hospital in Hamburg. Background: The decision to accept or discard the increasingly rare and marginal brain-dead donor kidneys in Eurotransplant (ET) countries has to be made without solid evidence. Thus, we developed and validated flexible clinicopathological scores called 2-Step Scores for the prognosis of delayed graft function (DGF) and 1-year death-censored transplant loss (1y-tl) reflecting the current practice of six ET countries including Croatia and Belgium.

Methods: The training set was n = 620 for DGF and n = 711 for 1y-tl, with validation sets n = 158 and n = 162, respectively.

Background: The Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) is a questionnaire for assessing hearing-specific quality of life in the context of cochlear implantation. Its length (60 items) makes it difficult to use in clinical practice, so a short version is desirable. The question arises as to which items should be selected for the short version.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in childhood differs from that of adulthood particularly in the specific pathophysiology of congenital heart disease-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension, the presence of developmental lung disease, and the frequent association with chromosomal, genetic, and syndromal abnormalities. Treatment of children with PH requires a modified diagnostic algorithm tailored to childhood, as well as pathophysiologically oriented therapeutic strategies. In the current 2022 ERS/ESC-PH guidelines, the specific features of PH in children are highlighted in its own chapter and commented on by the authorship group in this article.

Within the VISIBLE trial program, a novel subcutaneous application route was evaluated in addition to the already established intravenous form. In this position statement, the working group "Inflammatory Bowel Diseases" of the Austrian Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology (OEGGH) summarizes the evidence regarding the subcutaneous application of vedolizumab.

Introduction: Recent advances in the radiation therapy of prostate cancer have brought a shift toward moderate- and ultra-hypofractionated treatment schedules. Reducing safety margins can broaden the therapeutic window in stereotactic treatments and alleviate concerns for toxicity in high dose-per-fraction treatment schedules. Management of intrafractional motion is a necessity for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

Background: According to current guidelines, clozapine should be used as a third step in treatment resistant schizophrenia (TRS). [Resilient Children: Evaluation of a Programme to Promote Resilience in Kindergarten and Elementary School].

In the project "Resilient Children", a resilience promotion program for kindergartens and elementary schools was directly applied and evaluated during the COVID-19-crisis.The aim of the study was to strengthen the three sources of resilience according to Grotberg (1995) I HAVE, I AM and I CAN through targeted exercises and resilience-promoting communication (transfer to everyday life). Additionally, gender differences with regard to the effect of the programme were addressed.

Smoking and second-hand smoke strongly increase incidence of diabetes and probability for its complications. Smoking cessation can lead to weight gain and increased diabetes risk; however, it decreases cardiovascular and total mortality. A basal diagnostics (Fagerström Test, exhaled CO) is the basis for successful smoking cessation.
