Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) is assessed in subjects with and without obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using the time domain direct sequence technique, the spectral transfer function (TF) technique and the alpha index technique. All three measures showed a significantly depressed BRS value in subjects with severe apnea. The high frequency (HF) component of the spectral measures showed higher correlation with the sequence technique measures than the low frequency (LF) component.

Noise input signals are commonly used in both linear and nonlinear system identification of physiological systems. This method can be applied to electrophysiological analysis of the human visual system by controlling the modulation of the contrast of a checkerboard stimulus using a pre-computed noise waveform. In this study we describe how one can obtain an estimate of the linear impulse response of the visual system using noise waveforms.

Multi-channel EEG based neonatal seizure detection.

Conf Proc IEEE Eng Med Biol Soc

April 2008

Sch. of Electr., Electron. & Mech. Eng., Univ. Coll. Dublin, Ireland.

A multi-channel method for patient specific and patient independent, EEG based neonatal seizure detection is presented. Two classifier configurations are proposed and tested, along with a number of classifier models. Existing methods for neonatal seizure detection have been empirical threshold based or based on a single EEG channel.

Transcription factor AP-1 and the glucocorticoid receptor activate gene expression through interaction with specific DNA elements located in the promoter/enhancer region of responsive genes. Recently, it was reported that AP-1 and the glucocorticoid receptor are able to mutually repress each others transcriptional activity. Both, Fos and Jun consist of small families of genes coding for structurally related proteins.

The riminophenazine agents clofazimine and its analogue B669 displayed anti-tumor activity at 30 mg/kg/day in benzo[a]pyrene (BP) induced sarcomas of mice as well as dimethylbenz-anthracene (DMBA)-induced rat mammary tumors. No hematological toxicity of these drugs at doses up to 60 mg/kg/day for one month was observed. This is the first study to document in vivo anti-neoplastic activities of clofazimine and B669.
