Telomere length (TL) is increasingly recognized as a molecular marker that reflects how reproductive aging affects intergenerational transmissions. Here, we investigated the effects of parental age on offspring survival and the regulation of TL by examining the telomere-elongating activity of telomerase in the Pacific oyster. We assessed the classical hallmarks of aging in parents at three age classes (young, middle-aged, and old) and crossbred them using a split-brood design to examine the consequences of the nine maternal-by-paternal age combinations on their offspring.

The impact of a cyclonic (C), an anticyclonic (AC) eddy and transition zone (TZ), which is the area between the two eddies, on acoustic groups representing various mesopelagic organisms, was investigated using a semi-supervised multifrequency classification approach (hereafter, Escore algorithm). The Escore algorithm involved selecting regions of interest (ROIs) within multifrequency (18, 38, 70, and 120 kHz) echograms and classifying into four clusters or echo-classes using Sv differences (Sv18-38, Sv70-38, and Sv120-38). Acoustic densities and diel vertical migration strength varied between the AC, C, and TZ according to the frequency.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common, serious condition that requires anticoagulation for at least three months to prevent recurrence and long-term complications. After this initial period, the decision to continue or stop anticoagulation depends on the balance between the risk of recurrent VTE and the risk of bleeding. Established guidelines suggest short-term anticoagulation for VTE caused by transient factors and indefinite anticoagulation for recurrent or cancer-associated VTE.

Hypercoagulable states, also called thrombophilia, can either be congenital or acquired. Congenital thrombophilia, associated mainly with venous thrombosis, is either secondary to coagulation-inhibitor deficiencies, i.e.

Accelerating rate of human impact and environmental change severely affects marine biodiversity and increases the urgency to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) 30×30 plan for conserving 30% of sea areas by 2030. However, area-based conservation targets are complex to identify in a 3-dimensional (3D) ocean where deep-sea features such as seamounts have been seldom studied mostly due to challenging methodologies to implement at great depths. Yet, the use of emerging technologies, such as environmental DNA combined with modern modeling frameworks, could help address the problem.

Background: This study assesses the effectiveness of 5 main conversional or revisional metabolic bariatric surgery sequences after sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding and gastric bypass on reimbursement and cost of continuous positive airway pressure therapy, the first line treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, in France.
Methods: This nationwide observational population-based cohort study analyzed data from the French National Health Insurance database. It included all patients who had undergone primary metabolic bariatric surgery in France between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2014, and followed until December 31, 2020.

The last few years have seen a surge of interest from field ecologists and evolutionary biologists to study neoplasia and cancer in wildlife. This contributes to the One Health Approach, which investigates health issues at the intersection of people, wild and domestic animals, together with their changing environments. Nonetheless, the emerging field of wildlife cancer is currently constrained by methodological limitations in detecting cancer using non-invasive sampling.

Mycotoxin contamination of food and feed is a major global concern. Chronic or acute dietary exposure to contaminated food and feed can negatively affect both human and animal health. Contamination occurs through plant infection by toxigenic fungi, primarily and spp.

Macrocyclic chelators play a central role in medical imaging and nuclear medicine owing to their unparalleled metal cation coordination abilities. Their functionalization by fluorinated groups is an attractive design, to combine their properties with those of F for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or natural F for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and access potential theranostic or smart medical imaging probes. For the first time, a compact fluorinated macrocyclic architecture has been synthesized, based on a cyclen chelator bearing additional pyridine coordinating units and simple methyltrifluoroborate prosthetic groups.

Straightforward, accurate diagnostic management in patients presenting with clinically suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) is essential, since starting anticoagulant treatment may give important adverse effects of bleeding, while false exclusion of the disease may lead to recurrent VTE, with associated morbidity and mortality. In the past three decades, considerable improvement in the diagnostic management of PE has been made. Computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) has largely replaced conventional pulmonary angiography and ventilation-perfusion lung scanning as the imaging methods of choice.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are future promising therapeutics, but their instability in vivo after administration remains an important barrier to their further development. Many groups evaluated EV surface modification strategies to add a targeting group with the aim of controlling EV biodistribution. Conversely, fewer groups focused on their stabilization to obtain "stealth" allogenic EVs.

Background: The main aim of this study was to build an item bank for assessing the care quality of multi-professional healthcare centers (MPHCC) from the perspective of patients with multimorbidity. This study was part of the QUALSOPRIM (QUALité des SOins PRIMaires; primary healthcare quality) research project to create a psychometrically robust self-administered questionnaire to assess healthcare quality.
Methods: First, twelve experts built an item bank using data from a previous qualitative work and a systematic literature review.

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a complex disease with genetic and environmental factors at play. Through trio exome sequencing, a de novo SEC16A frameshift variant in a Chinese teenage CP patient is identified. Subsequent targeted next-generation sequencing of the SEC16A gene in 1,061 Chinese CP patients and 1,196 controls reveals a higher allele frequency of rare nonsynonymous SEC16A variants in patients (4.
